If you look at things like Kodi and IPTV they still cost a significant amount of money but less than the TV packages, so there is a market there.

I thought all that illegal stream stuff was free, other than people paying for pre-setup boxes/firesticks?

So if it’s not worth it, then don’t pay it? No one is forcing you.

I’ll watch the matches with my mate (covid rules permitting) and we’ll pay £7.50 each. Doesn’t seem too bad to me, so I’ll pay it.
There'll be 15 of us paying a quid each. Fuck covid rules.

I used to use watch streams on a Firestick but it wasn’t always reliable.
The match would sometimes temporarily freeze or change to not available.
Sometimes I’d need to switch to the channels with the US or Arab commentators.

Another issue was the play was about 2 minutes behind real time.
So when I’d be checking results of other matches on my phone...I’d see that we’d scored or conceded.
So I knew in advance that within the next minute or 2 there would be a goal.
Also my mate had a SUFC goal alert on his phone...so when it buzzed we knew a goal was on its way.
Better than nothing though.

Guess that must have been last season then ;)

Think I'll be making do with Radio Sheffield TBH (and spoilers from the shoutbox which is always 2 or 3 minutes ahead of whatever I am watching or listening on)

I didn't, for a second, assume you were dumb (just wrong) 😂

I don't see how this means we'll be on Sky more? Sky will still cherry pick games because they are advertiser funded. They need the big games so they can encourage more addicts to gamble.

Liverpool v Man U will still be the featured game on Sky. Whenever Sheffield United are on they'll still spend 55 minutes talking about Arsenal v Chelsea, and then give us a passing mentioned (even though we're just about to kick off).

This doesn't change that.
My posts had nothing to do with sky ignoring us because we are not as trendy as the top six.

If sky select a game for PPV it’s will most likely be a top six game, because of the income potential.
If Blades are not picked for PPV, they will be available to current sky subscribers. It really is that simple.
I don’t like the EPL deciding that the usual non selected games can be bought by additional subscriptions. It is, quite simply, a reminder to people who are considering canceling their subscription, to wait and see which matches get picked for both options.

Irrespective of the income breakdown, the top six will still get picked more frequently (as happens now) because there is money in it for them and broadcasters.
The rich get richer and the poor get poorer.

I could be wrong, but neither of us knows that for sure, until the dust settles and the details come out.
I am not debating the substance of your opinion or mine, just the fairly obvious reasoning behind it. It’s a shit idea, and no good can come of it for us.
We agree on more points than we disagree on. 🤷‍♂️

Streams are just not like that anymore you can find them in full HD and 4K no pop ups, no redirecting you to dodgy websites, no needing to download and install some crappy media player software to be able to watch. Every game so far as been available with quality as good as from Sky or BT but watch how the big media corporations clamp down on streaming sites now it will get brutal. One thing for sure with this fake pandemic is that the small business' will go to the wall only the huge corporations will survive and not only that they will make huge profits from it. Profits that is what it is all about.

It's an amazingly short-sighted decision from Premiership clubs. Not only will fans of clubs outside the top 6 have to pay more money to watch all of our matches (given the increased likelihood of our matches being PPV), but we will also be taking in far less money than the big 6. This is going to destroy the other 14 clubs and further tip the balance in favour of the big clubs.

As for the pricing. Some are comparing the £15 to a £25 match ticket and deeming it good value. What planet are you on? Not only is the 'product' significantly worse in empty stadiums, but there are also literally thousands of free streams online that you can find without much effort. The fact that so many people pay a small fee for an IPTV provider suggests people ARE willing to pay a reasonable amount for a reliable stream. Not fucking fifteen quid a game.

As a comparison, boxing gets slagged off a lot for the amount of PPV fights they have, but they take place probably once a month at most, cost £20 and are 4-5 hours' worth of entertainment. We're being asked to pay £15 every 1-2 weeks to watch a 90 minute match in an empty stadium. It's bonkers and in my opinion anyone who chooses to buy all of our PPV matches is absolutely out of their mind.

Even if streams didn't exist I wouldn't pay nearly 2/3 of match ticket to watch it on telly.

Even if the product hadn't had a noticeable drop off in enjoyment for me, and was as good as when there were fans, I still wouldn't pay nearly 2/3 of a match ticket.

I think there's so much more value in going to the game than just the football, even when we lose I can have enjoyed bits of the day, just not the football itself. Watching it on telly I can't say the same.

I'm not paying £15 for commentary that's shite and gonna annoy me, and a pre game build up that either talks about man utd and Chelsea, or is almost non existent.

At risk of coming across all “bigger Blade”, I ain’t arsed about the “product”. I’d pay to watch United play on a dog shit covered park in front of no fans. Watching United is the product I’m after, the atmosphere is a bonus.

As for the comparison between match tickets, it’s £15 per TV not per person. Does no one on this thread have any friends or family that they are going to watch the match with and share the cost? If 3 or 4 people split £15 then it’s a hell of a lot cheaper than match tickets.

Not for me,over 60,more expensive than attending at BDTBL on the kop.
That's without adding in the cost of subscribing to Sky and BT.
This is it. This is going to hit pensioners big time, already some are now having to find £157 just to have a TV and then they have to subscribe to Sky, BT and Amazon if they want to watch away games. Cheaper to get a ST on the kop for less than £12 per game but we can't even do that now. On top of all that games not scheduled to be on TV are now offered on a PPV basis this is just one insult too many for football fans especially considering the huge amount of money spent this transfer window and the obscene wages today's footballers are paid. I think this one decision by the clubs will push many fans away from the game which today with VAR diving and cheating has just become a comedy farce played out without an audience complete with canned laughter in the shape of artificial crowd noise. I'll always love Sheffield United but I'm fast falling out of love for the game, I no longer watch it on TV unless we are on.

I’m a 37 year old bloke. Chances of me finding enough Blades supporting mates to sit around a TV at 12 o’clock on a Sunday are practically non-existent 😁

Watching on TV isn’t really for me anyway, I detest it. I’d sooner spend my money watching non-league than that. I am never going to shell out £15 to watch a stream of us away at Burnley.

Great way to marginalise those who don't, not everyone does have friends or family no, for various reasons. Slightly blinkered post to post on International Mental Health Day!

The cheapest Kop matchday ticket for over 60’s cat B games was £22 last season, you can’t compare it to a season ticket price as it’s a one-off scenario.

One of my suggestions further up on this thread was just to charge people for an ST and then give them free TV coverage instead of the £15 option. That would generate a decent amount of cash for the club and then at least people know where they stand.

What I just can’t understand is that people were moaning saying that we couldn’t afford to sign decent players on high wages, yet the suggestion of putting their hands in their pockets is made and they start going mental. Folk can’t have their cake and eat it.

I would imagine the majority won’t be watching the match alone and will share the cost. But that doesn’t fit in with the Premier League being an evil money grabbing organisation.

Why bother with sky bt now tv and amazon overcharging greedy twats.
Every Sheff Utd game home and away is live on Radio Sheffield for free.
That's what I am doing.

You are saying this like all the £14.99 will go to the club trust me it won't. More likely it will be the smallest portion after Sky and the Premier League take their cut.

It isn’t at all, but that’s why it’s half price or less to watch at home.

I take your point, but I'd personally argue that it shows how poor value it is, as the experience of watching the match live is far more than double the experience of watching an empty stadium on TV.

I don't have a problem with the concept or PPV football, my issue is £15, on top of a monthly subscription is bordering on extortionate.
