This message says very little alco. I still think I made a fair comment. Blackwell ground results out away from home. Speed did the same last night. It's just that people were so desperate for a win that they don't care how it came. Speed has had time to stamp some authority on the team, but has only real forged results when he has played like his old master.

It's a definite 'well done' from me. I really believe that, given time and patience, GS will produce results and do it through proper football. There will be plenty of ups and downs and some gradual but welcome changes in style. That will inevitably involve a few 'casualties' as we progress.

It's a forum, a place for debate. I don't understand this I am not going to argue with Ollessendro because he has a different opinion to me. I am not going to argue with Lenners because there is no point. I'm ignoring Micalijo's points because he doesn't like Blackwell. Perhaps a North Korean style clappers forum should be set up wehere there is absolutely no dissent?

Anyway, Speed has brought in 3 players but they've added little value to the squad. Hence he has had resources, but he hasn't used them well. I haven't really seen much of a change in the style of play and the results are not great. the cynics amongst us might say that Blackwell would be doing a similar job and playing a similar way.

I've already stated that I am willing to be convinced or to change my opinion, should someone show me some evidence or even a convicing argument. Unfortunately I never get either. Most just seem to get the hump on, throw my arguments out because I'm a 'knocker' or get insulting because they can't come back on the point I have made.

I personally don't have a problem with anyone who has a different opinion to me. You never the see the likes of myslef, Lenners, Fiery, Micalijo or Torrix coming on and saying 'there's so much positivity around', 'I'm sick to death of the same members posting positive posts', 'I'm taking my ball home because of all this optimism'. I prefer to try and debate the issues. Dismissing someone's posts because they are a 'knocker' or 'sunshine band' member is hardly in the spirit of the forum just shows insecurity that you can't handle their argument.

There are none so blind as those who don't want to see...(perhaps I should concede that Ched isn't totally shite.....)

Rambling on about me not going to games is not making your arguments any stronger. In fact these cheap digs just take away from your argument. It's funny how you don't question other users as to whether they are at the games or not. I am not going to try to alter your opinion. You are clearly smart and have come a judgement yourself. I however still don't share your opinion. The players trying (and failing) to get the ball on the deck and pass it a little hasn't made me think that Speed is going to turn things around and eventually get us promoted. With some of the gash managers that we've had at the Lane over the years, I'm just not willing to show blind faith towards Speed and his team, just because they have tried to pass it a little bit more.

I think in each game (even Boro away) I've been to there's been patches of good quality passing which we haven't seen since pre-Warnock.

I think what is evident from the way Speed comes across is that the change will be gradual over January and next summer.

Our away form doesn't concern me. You are right though Bramley. Away from home, when the pressure is off and we are not expected to break teams down we've looked better. We've sat back and played a little bit of football. Because we've not been expected to win the team seems to have handled it better. Also the 4-5-1 seems to work better away. At home it is a different matter. Speed seems to be using the same tactics for home games as away games (another Blackwell trait) and hence I've been critical of this.

The thing that defined Hoofy for me was his complete negativity away from home (albeit not in the 4 months after he took over from Robson). This was NOT something I associated with him at home (until we got into the lead anyway).

Blackwell's away record is second to none as Blades manager (I'd like to see some statistics - mini project for someone?) and I like nothing better than United grinding out a 1-0 away - enough teams have done it to us over the years at BDTBL.

I'm not sure that the dislike of Blackwell came from the results/performances away. Let's face it, away from home, the game is about stopping the opposition, quietening the fans and getting the result. Yes, the 500-3000 fans travelling from Sheffield might like entertainment and positivity but 3 points are 3 points. In Blackwell's 'nearly' season, the away record gave us a shot at automatic promotion and we nearly sneaked home late on. Some of my favourite away trips consist of scrappy 1-0 Blades wins. Away from home, I don't care a jot. A win is a win.

At home, it's very different. The majority of the paying regulars go to home games and we want to see United perform at home. We want to see entertainment. We want to see stylish victories and that is what cost Blackwell his job. Too much apathy set in, too much crap was handed out to the fans and it meant that the minute the results turned late last season, Blackwell was in big trouble. Speed has inherited KB's squad and at times he is going to have to use Blackwell-esque tactics - particularly away from home. However, the suggestion that Speed hasn't made changes to the home tactic is ludicrous. Blackwell's 442 has gone and Speed employs 433 for a start. He has to start somewhere and make us solid before January to edge us towards 50 points - and if he can, keep us in with an outside run at the Play Offs if the league stays as tight as it looks like it will.

The time to judge Speed's tactics will be this time next season. He seems to be saying the right things and there is evidence that these things are being implemented. However, you can't change it all at once. He has to take the small steps needed to turn the club around. If this means leaving the away tactics as they were/are for now, so be it.
