Billy

And yet he fell over a lot and exhibited the first touch of a trampoline.

None of our forwards are good enough at this level. Why we didn't address this remains a source of mystery to me.
Oli McB.
Second touch a lunging, unsuccessful, tackle.
He's shit.

Facts:

  • Wilder knows Billy and Mcburnie don’t work excellent together.
  • McGoldrick didn’t start because off previous injury. Wasn’t worth risking a starting place.
  • Burke not up to speed/tactics/match fitness.
  • Mousset is out for a while.
Wilders hand was forced, yet some fans can’t help themselves and twist the knife.

What actually is achieved by starting (another) thread pointing out areas that need strengthening? It’s a serious question btw.

Wilder has stated MANY times we need to improve up the top of the pitch. Him and the the team are working on it, with one of the smallest budgets in the league.

Billy, who I imagine everyone was sucking off when he netted the equaliser on the opening game last season, is a great player to have in the squad. He will chip in with the odd goal and is a great addition to throw on when defenders are tired. What is gained by throwing insults? If Billy left today we would be seriously fucked, think about that for a second.

You just know the same “supporters” that turn on players (faster than milk on a hot day) will be the same wankers that moan when a player want to leave us, starting to think “supporters” are less loyal than some of the players.

Really disappointed in the fan reaction after that game. Maybe a mixture of several things going on in the world but the social media response is just wild.

I’ve criticised others for being reactive / fickle after last night. This might seem ironic, but isn’t swayed by last night;

If we played with 11 players of Sharp’s “relative” ability every week, we would be relegated.

Sharp starting has to be the exception, not the rule. This position was always going to be the difficult one to crack. Wilder has recognised this weakness. Patience is needed.

Despite being 34, I think Sharp still has something to give.

It depends how we (and the opposition) are playing though. For Billy to be effective, he needs to be in the box, for him to be able to stay in the box, we need to be in control of the ball, with the opponents playing a deeper line: Games against teams that intend to counter.

If we're not high enough up the pitch, or our opponent has most of the ball, I agree that Billy's usefulness deteriorates.

Unfortunately he hasn’t got a massive deal to contribute on the pitch ...if he’s a bit part player and gets half a dozen goals and helps the other strikers improve pin training etc then job done ...his starts should be few and far between ...and I love Billy but nothing to do with last night ..it’s just been coming tbh ..and btw he was better than Mcburnie last night ..but still we can’t pin our hopes on Billy anymore ..simple as ..

How do you know Burke's not up to the task?

Sorry to say it, again, but he does not have one attribute to make him effective enough to make a difference at this level

Constantly outmuscled, off the pace and final ball woeful when he had the chance to set McBurnie up with a simple 5 yard pass. Decided to blast it to the South Stand advertising boards.

Most worrying thing for me is him and McBurnie starting together upfront again. It’s like we learned absolutely nothing watching them last season. It’s our worst partnership by a mile. It doesn’t work, never has and never will.

A positive to end it though: Sander might be fit to start next time out and him in for Lundstram makes us levels better. He is an incredible player.
Fuckers legs have finally gone.....again.

If he knows it doesn't work why did he consistently try it after January last season? Even when every striker was fit?

Bit of a weird thing to say 'I imagine everyone was sucking off when he scored' - yes, no ones going to be gutted about that are they?

Billy hasn't been good enough for the Prem since we got promoted. Certainly not in the style we play anyway. We ask too much of our strikers for them just to be good at putting the ball in the back of the net. Need much more qualities than just that.

Blood if there's been a bad accident/incident & his time to charity/soccer schools. That's about it.

Has it occurred to you, and others, that MOST of his pitch time has been alongside Mr SubOptimal ??

Just saying !!

Any way you like mate, as you do in shoutbox perhaps?
So basically you haven't got a clue

Yeah, all our squad are amazing lads, brilliant people, definitely all good enough for the Prem.

Hope we can play Jags and Rodwell against Villa.
Lovely lads, reyt players, definitely up to the task.

It's all fine. They're all great.

You can't beat father time. His intent, runs and awareness was all there yesterday but his legs were not. Too slow and easy to shutdown.

His legs have finally gone (at this level)

Who’s mentioned Jags and Rods?

Why are our fans such fannies when it comes to criticism of our players?
It’s the argumentative posts I’m referring to (not just you - in general). Time for a time out for me.

FuK you all Sharp-haters. A character to pay some deep money to be involved with the team. Shoud he start in PL games this season? Probably not, but at least he is a forward. Would you rather have Egan taking the place? McBurnie is s*ite, what ever the ... keep telling each other. Nor do we have any other decent strikers, as it never occured to Wilder that having scored so few goals last season, we might actually need some strike-force. In the circumstances Billy is as good as it gets (after McGoldrick, once he gets fit.)

The cross to Lundstram was over hit, and you really would have preferred him to show some of that selfishness of old to take the shot himself.

I thought he put that ball in so hard because that's the type of ball he likes to receive. Lots of pace, so when he gets a boot to it it's really hard to save. If the situation had been reversed and Lunny had put that ball in to Bill I think it would have been a goal
