I don’t think you are sorry to say it again. You like the attention garnered by slagging off our most iconic current player.

He wasn’t constantly outmuscled and off the pace.

He still shows great bursts of speed, gets into the right places, holds and distributes the ball well, shows the guile to get free kicks in dangerous areas and scores goals. One of the very best poachers in the games. Always gives 100%, great Captain and motivational influence.

Billy is a crowd rousing tool. If there's no fans there he's pretty useless being on the pitch against PL defenders. He has next to no impact

Dont think Sharp was great but he was an awful lot better than McBurnie. Put himself about against an excellent defence and made some very good runs.

I don't think either striker got enough service til late on in the game.

Both Billy and McBurnie should have scored a goal but they were waiting for an hour to get any sort of service.

Are people forgetting that Billy is 34? He should be (and I'm assuming Wilder would want him to be) our 5th choice striker. The trouble is we haven't got a pot to piss in to buy the 2 quality forwards we need, hence Billy starts. I still think our best 2 up front is Didzy and Moose, but both seem injury prone, so we are where we are.

I don’t know how anyone can say we’ve not got a pot to piss in? We’ve plenty of cash, CW just hasn’t used it efficiently. £18M for Ramsdale, £15M according to Sky Sports for the wingback duo. That’s £33M just this window. Definitely could’ve been spent differently.

Last season. £10M on Mousset, £15M on McBurnie. Not exactly shrewd business is it due to the fact ones always injured/unfit and the other just useless. £25M could’ve been spent on a top notch forward. A deal rising to almost £30M for Sander Berge and all the rest of the business like Ben Osborne for about £5M. We’ve plenty of money, but CW seems to choose an abundance of squad players instead of standout stars.

Pay Championship prices, get Championship players but nobody can say the money wasn’t there.

A top notch premier league striker for £25m?! Good luck with that. I'd love to know how you think we build a Premier league squad when we spent all our money on one or two players.

Coming into this window our single biggest priority was bringing in a first choice keeper, which we did.
Over the last two windows we've added depth and drastically brought down the average age of the squad, including a few players with great potential, who could prove to be fantastic assets.

That's before we get into a debate about McBurnie.

So let's not start slating the best manager we've had in years, because of a poor first 5 minutes of the season.

It's been well established it's not 15 mil for the Derby duo, just bang the highest figure down though, suits the narrative.

18 million isn't a lot for Ramsdale. We've signed a really good keeper, who will grow with us for years to come. We had to sign a keeper at some stage.

Mousse and McBurnie both won us important points last year, we want more goals but last night showed us that it's chance creation where we are doing a bit shit (Bogle might help there though, WB is arguably our biggest chance creator). So i honestly don't think "top notch" strikers would have helped too much, our service is often really, really poor.

Speaking of top notch, who would you have had - Untested Watkins just went for 33 million. Joelinton 40 million, Wesley 22 million (lol). Maupay? I don't think he falls into top notch (and I don't think he would have got 10 goals for us last year). Just saying "25 million on a top notch striker" has no substance at all.

"CW seems to choose an abundance of squad players instead of standout stars."

Berge isn't a squad player. At all.

I think you're being naive to think CW just goes out and spends what he wants on who he wants. A lot of the time, the managers don't pick the actual players, just the type of player they want.

Come on man.

£25 million on a top notch striker 🤣🤣 Have you been asleep since 2010? I think you've got your transfer fees from a random number generator as well, We've spent about half of the figure you've quoted on Bogle and Lowe. Ramsdale is rising to £18 million as well, so I'd say we've spent about £22 million this window which is fuck all in the Premier League (Wolves have just spent £35 million on a teenager). Last season we spent £70 million to get to 9th, improving a number of areas with that budget (I think everyone agrees what an amazing job Wilder did with that budget). We also have the lowest wage budget in the league as well, so yes, I'd say we haven't got a pot to piss in (nobody's fault, but by the admission of the owner he doesn't have the money to throw at the club).

Perhaps you could let us all in on your financial strategy then - there’s got to be a massive improvement on ninth place in the Premier League though.

Not exactly, just had the feeling that you wouldn’t have his back in a ruck..
No, you're right, I absolutely despise one of our leading all-time goalscorers, one of our only living legends, the reason we didn't get relegated to league 2 and our talisman for 2 promotions in 3 seasons.
I absolutely can't stand him.

Jesus, take a step back and stop talking bollocks

Agreed, not seen a great deal of it yet though.
Seen enough against Arsenal, Spurs and Chelsea. Yesterday he shone too when he came on.

It's in the games against the Burnleys, West Broms and Newcastles I worry about him because it seems to become a war of attrition rather than a football match. It's a side of his game he needs to push on.

Because I don't think he's a good enough Premier League player?

If he was the Billy Sharp of 10 years ago he would be, especially in our system. I think Billy has had a lot of bad luck in his career, especially for us considering he played under some absolute cretins for managers before CW came in.

I agree in as much as, there’s no way he is as quick or skilful enough to create his own chances like he used to be. One thing that hasn’t changed though is his ability to score goals, the chances are just not forthcoming enough.

The fact he is still a starting striker for us is quite telling (and that’s not a slight on him btw). I still genuinely believe he’s good for a goal as he can still get in the right positions if we are creating chances but I do think the days of us relying on him to get 15/20 goals should be long gone.

We desperately need another striker, probably 2 if Moose is going to be out for a long period. But I’m almost certain if we as fans are aware of it, then Wilder was long before us.

You have a strange way of showing it

I think we've often been playing him out of position tbh, to me he's a very natural CDM as opposed to RCM or even further up.

Despite being 34, I think Sharp still has something to give.

It depends how we (and the opposition) are playing though. For Billy to be effective, he needs to be in the box, for him to be able to stay in the box, we need to be in control of the ball, with the opponents playing a deeper line: Games against teams that intend to counter.

If we're not high enough up the pitch, or our opponent has most of the ball, I agree that Billy's usefulness deteriorates.
