No.

Yes.

Not sure.

I get why it's a good deal for us. We get all of the things you've said above, I want the lad to come. I just don't see how it benefits him on the face of it, other than that he's closer to a chance of playing than he is at Chelsea but is still relying on injuries/fatigue/loss of form to play.

He could come in, play every game and we might all be saying "Chris/John/Oli/John/Sander Who?" by the end of the season, but then he's still going back to Chelsea.

I'm not against the signing, I just think it's better for us than it is for him on the face of it.
Maybe a motivation that hasn’t been considered in this is that like Berge he wants to come here to learn? Maybe he has seen how we play with our centre backs and decided that if he is to elevate his game to another level with the natural skill set he has then learning how to play offensively out of centre half is a good next step for him? And he can learn that on the training pitch aswell as in the starting 11. Also from our point of view maybe we want to look at him how quickly he adapts and picks up the nuances of a very specialist and complex position with a best case scenario in mind of next summer when less immediate gaps need plugging in the squad he could be our big money addition ?

And further to that he's realised Lampard must rate about 5 other CBs higher than him, for the time being at least.

And that he'll learn nothing about defending from Lampard...

Maybe, you never know. Another consideration is that he has always fancied living in Sheffield as it's the 'Gateway to the Peaks' and he likes hiking on his days off? We'll have to wait and see I suppose.

Rumbled he’s just come to be part of the rock climbing hipster lifestyle 😂

Some reactions to this potential signing really highlights a lack of football intelligence from some of our fans.

Last season we were dependant on a settled 11, as soon as that was broken we struggled. Injuries, suspension, fatigue, etc.

We had adequate cover in some positions that allowed us to put sticking plasters in place on occasions. Unfortunately towards the back end of the season they were more like bandages and we faded away.

Had we had a stronger SQUAD then I have no doubt we would have finished higher.

Our wing-backs played virtually the entire season without competition and no doubt suffered from fatigue in turn impacting form.

We were reliant on Basham playing that role for the entire season - rarely getting subbed or rested.

Norwood - form was up and down, but again having to play every game.

We could go on.

The signings of the two Derby players are so perfect its a masterstroke from CW. Tailor made for that wing back role, young and with no pressure to be first choice immediately. These positions are now the strongest area of our squad. It gives CW the option to comfortably pick and choose games for rotation, or making substitutions to limit minutes and prevent fatigue. Its a great transfer for us.

Ampadu - an international player that gets nothing but plaudits for his performances at that level, is coming in with the ability to cover a specialist RCB role and defensive midfielder role. We have one specialised defensive midfielder and he's injured (Berge). Our only other player capable of stepping into that role during a game...Chris Basham.

What cover do we currently have for this? No one.

Stop worrying or thinking about which players drop out for new ones. Its silly to think like that.
Thousand likes.

The ‘he just passes sideways’ merchants are the neanderthal-like attitudes we need to be leaving in L1.

Most of Coutts passes were sideways and backwards. The opposition can’t score if you’re keeping the ball.

Also what are Chelsea’s expectations this year? 200 mill just to stand still or is Lampard expected to challenge this year and If they don’t then more money will follow next year likely on the defence and keeper and potentially a new manager the lad could end up as another forgotten player consumed by the blackhole that is Chelsea

I'll be honest with you, I've only seen him play in the video Bergen posted in the 'defender' thread. He looked very composed on the ball, great distribution but incredibly lightweight (on the back foot/slow to react) in the tackle and in the air (no strength/easily bullied). He also pointed like Collins after completely misjudging a long ball.

He looked to be playing a sweeper role.

Obviously, it's unfair to judge a player from one game but I'd have a few concerns about how he'd perform against a strong and powerful forward and a direct team.
Harry Kane not strong and powerful enough?

Coutts passed the ball very quickly and kept us ticking over whilst also playing some eye of the needle balls through to Duffy, completely different to being safe.

Blades fans, exaggerating things and saying things that no ones ever said since social media began.

Who’s to say Ampadu CAN’T do that? He is primarily defensive minded and that’s what we’ve signed him for, but you don’t get the plaudits he’s had if you can’t play a bit.

I’ve watched him for Wales on a number of occasions and he doesn’t strike me as a player who can do this just yet and in the grand scheme of things he doesn’t have to, as long as he performs like you and many others say he can then we should be a lot better next season. As it stands though I see a player who can play football but is prone to errors when he try’s something a tad more pressing, do we need someone like this at this stage of his development and more importantly ours, on loan?

As I said before it’s only my opinion and I’ll let it get shot down however you like, I’ll take it but I just don’t think he’s currently good enough for us.

As ever though, with all our players, I’ll get behind them if he signs.

Potentially a very handy signing, a player who can play either midfield or centre half and one who can push for a first team place.
Given how generally lucky we've been with injuries, particularly at the back, would be a sound signing.

Cover across all positions in the back 3 and Norwood also. Ambipedal ball player that is pretty much perfect for our system. Despite my thoughts on him I hope Nixon is right. And that Chelsea have a phenomenal defensive season so we can try and blag a permo at some point.

The last Wales game I got to he was playing in midfield – this was in the previous Nations League round vs Denmark. Absolutely clattered by a Danish player, and received a standing ovation when he dished some out in response. I seem to recall Brewster doing something similar on his debut vs Cardiff when something similar happened to him.

A thoroughly enjoyable moment.

He gives penalties away equally well with each hand?

'Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has confirmed Ethan Ampadu is set to leave the club on loan this summer and has not travelled with the squad to Japan. #CFC'

Option for 1 of our 2 loans? Good young player thats defensive minded which would be good for away games. Fleck and Norwood lack that defensive game and height in CM.
Great suggestion a year ago pal

Think we'll see a lot of injuries across the league this season (hopefully I'm wrong) but if that does happen he'll get game time I'm sure.
