Fair point. £38k a week is the figure I was given.

Yeah. Dismiss everything as nonsense it seems. Then when Richard Cadette came along (whom I'm not claiming to be btw, far from it), everyone tore into him, before realising he was the real deal, and by this point he'd got ticked off with everything. None of this matters really as Toney has gone elsewhere, so the thread needs closing really, but the information I got is from a good source and I've every reason to believe it's correct. Dismiss it if you want, but the calling me a pig (not you) has really hacked me off. The wages Brentford offered were in excess of £30k per week (again scoff if you want) but it shows what CWAK are up against in signing players, and probably explains why Roswell has been resigned. A decent, English, championship player is £10m+ at the moment, like it or not.

I'm not claiming anything, the deals been done, I'm just telling you what I've been told.

As a person of experience in Brentfords Business model (Well Banana (claimed to be ITK) ratteld on about it for about 5 years in the Maupay saga) Im not quite sure that fits in with their model, but perhaps with their recent sales running into the tens of millions they may be upping their wages.

Banana can you shed any light on this good sir?

I don’t recall Cadette being torn into, but then he pointedly didn’t react to any that doubted what he was saying, and what he was saying did all seem to be plausible.

The doubt is raised from not just one figure you mention, but both figures. Is it possible your source was mistaken? Brentford’s wage bill in 2018/19 was £18.9m. As a comparison we were £19m in our first season back in the Championship in 2017/18. Compare that to £46.8m that Derby spent in our first season and you begin to see why they were prepared to offer Waghorn £30k/week (a figure we were nowhere near matching). Ours shot up to £40.7m in our promotion year, but that was mainly due to the promotion bonuses we paid out. Now unless Brentford’s wage bill has absolutely shot up in the last year, or they have enormous disparity in that squad, or the figure you’ve heard is a best case wage that takes into account a potential promotion bonus, it doesn’t pass the sense test.

I'll take the 5th like he did then.

The thing is, and its no disrespect to you, but in your example you could have told us a week ago that he was gonna sign for us but instead had opted to choose Brentford (before he actually signed for them, or it was announced anyway) that would have given you some actual ITK. After eventing is impossible one way or other to prove so will never give you any credence.

and in defence of RC, he came out with shit well before any media and some of it was so far left field but turned out to be right, gave him the ITK God status

You're all right, my mate who plays for Peterborough and is friends with Toney must have got it all wrong. I bow to your collective judgement. I'll leave it there. I'll make sure I share anything else I find out in future from the pro footballers I know so you can shoot these down in flames too.
Mate don’t take it personally it’s the way of the Rumour Mill part of the site. People have a right to question what you say because that’s what forums are about - debate. Unfortunately it too quickly seems to go down the route of abuse and suggestions of porcine leanings. I personally still come on and read but it gets more and more pointless as the threads seem to quickly spiral into name calling.

Cheers and I really appreciate what you say. I've watched for years too, and recently became a member. You're right, I can't believe how personal it gets, and some of the comments are ridiculous. Happy to debate opinions, but this is something I've heard from a good source. If someone doesn't believe it, fair enough, a dignified response is fine, and I've had a couple of them. No issues with that. The pig stuff is really annoying though. Thanks for your comments, I appreciate them, it's restored dome of my faith in the forum. UTB

I only found out yesterday, and as I'm not a Time Lord, I couldn't really announce it last week. 😁😁. It's all post event stuff, but shows some of the challenges CWAK are facing, and perhaps why the transfer activity is slower than we would all like.

We offered £25k a week, and Brentford offered more. I don't know how much more though.
Dont beleave Brentford pay that much as a championship club averaging 9 to 10 thousand fans at home games.
Thy have a fantastic recruitment policy but it's based on relative unknown foreign players who are on peanuts in there home country. The carrot which attracts these players is the chance to excel and get a big club ,Btentford have used this policy so well that promotion is within there grasp

Fair enough; we shouldn't have called you a pig. Here's a dignified response:

What you're saying is almost certainly wrong, or at the very least, massively exaggerated. Not to say you're not being sincere; perhaps it got lost in translation, or your source got bad information.

Firstly, there were no reports of us actually being in for Toney, let alone having a bid accepted and discussing personal terms. Given Peterborough's chairman is quick to publicise interest, its seems odd we haven't been mentioned at all.

Secondly, the chances of Brentford paying anyone that kind of money is highly unlikely. They operate on a tight budget; Pontus Jansen is reportedly their highest earner, on £18,000 - baring in mind he came from a promotion rival, as an established CH player: why would they pay someone from league 1 more than double that?

No way on Earth have Brentford paid Toney £38k a week.

Watkins will be on about a 3rd of that at absolute most and hasn't moved on yet. If he doesn't get the move how do you think he'll feel about Toney being on triple his wages?

We all used to wind up the Brentford fans that came on here but there's no question their business model works a treat. Sign players for reletively low fees and wages, sell for a massive profit and then recycle the same process.

No way Brentford are chucking 38k p/w around on the back of building a new stadium

I doubt we are chucking around 38k for Ivan. But probably not too far off, it might start with a 2 for instance. Our profits from transfers have meant that we can afford a little more. But I suspect that, as has been the historic practice, a substantial amount of players earning is tied-up in bonuses rather than basic salary.

Also, the stadium SHOULD cost us nothing as the development around the stadium, and at Griffin Park, should mean we get the stadium for gratis - in the end. In fact the owner had some money returned "recently" as a development milestone was reached. So any stories about "Brentford have overreached on financing of a new stadium", are most probably ill-informed.

Watkins signed a new contract recently. He won't have done that for a very modest increase in wages...

It's urban legend that we offered Maupay more to stay than he is now on a B&HA, but he wanted to play in the PL - fair enough.

However your point has some validity, I doubt that we want both on the wage bill.

Not too far off £38k, but the figure starts with a 2?

So quite far off then

Not far off? You deluded clown 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Brentfords owner is a dealer who knows what he's doing. He buys players to sell on at huge profits whilst in the meantime trying to get a good enough team together to get promoted. Hes been extremely successful in doing the former and almost achieved the latter.

So let's consider what he might be doing with Toney. Hes figured 10m for him could be a steal as if he gets high teens plus goals next season he immediately becomes worth 20m+. The only way to get him to Brentford is to pay big wages so why wouldn't he pay him 30k a week, that's only 1.5m per year for a potential 10 fold return on those wages.

Some of our fans need to get in the real world re what top players are earning. That's not to say we have to go down that route and pay those wages but it explains why the likes of Robinson and Cash have gone elsewhere.

Robinson isn't a top player in the championship, it would've been absolutely ludicrous to pay him the rumoured 50k a week.

Saw somewhere that benrahamas valuation is 20 million.
Found that a bit hard to believe ,I'd heard earlier reports of 35
Think.I'm spending too much time perusing transfer gossip sites

Totally agree mate, read what I wrote, I'm not advocating paying that money just pointing out that others will. Its also why Brentford will pay Toney a lot of money...they think they will more than recuperate it when they sell him

Aye, have to agree.. though I'm quite happy we aren't paying 50k to second rate players. Now 50k to a top player who instantly transforms the first team, I'd be open to it. But it'd have to be a quality player. We aren't in that pond though, and I can't really say I'm that bothered, means we're much more stable and unlikely to have a fire sale should the worse happen (which I don't think will for what it's worth)
