I think you might be in the minority there. If I worked at a company where someone "less important" than me (a backup player vs a starter, in this case) was on more money - and possibly twice as much money, for that matter - I'd be pissed off. But fair enough, that's your feelings on it.
I agree in that that's certainly how things work in the 'real world'. Personally I think the real world and the football world is not the best comparison, because the difference in wages for ordinary folk means a lot more.

The kind of wages we are talking here for footballers, they are all rich as fuck regardless. Maybe that causes the same mindset from a normal workplace to simply scale up (sad state of affairs if true), or maybe that makes some of them not care as much about the specific figures involved.

The reason wages are so high is because footballers care every bit, if not more than in the "real world"...

you don't as a sane, well run club pay a Wigan LB 50k a week...

Well they have got a player that was going to cost AC Milan 10m for 1.9m I doubt a cash rich Fulham are going to worry about that and the revenue they get for being in the premier league as well means that players on 50k a week is about average even Burnley have playere on 50k a week.

The daily mail article had a hilarious line it, it said "he's leaning towards working with Fulhams bright thinking manager Scott Parker"

Must be hard having one of the championships biggest budgets and the best striker in the league last season and having many Premier league standard players in a championship team, oh the struggle 🙄.

But they all have agents in their ear telling them how great they are & how much more money they could get elsewhere.

How many of our current first XI are on £50K/week? I would guess not many. If we give Robinson that on the back of one half-decent season at Wigan, and his "potential", the players who've actually done it for us will be beating a path to CW's office demanding to be paid the same (or more). Can we afford that? Plus you've just raised the salary bar for any genuine first-teamers we might want to sign.

I think it's all relative. Rich people just adjust their lifestyles to being rich & aspire to be super rich.

The difference between 25k & 50k may seem neglible to you, or I - but to them, it may be the difference between their Grandkids not having to work, or (more likely) being able to afford an extra couple of Lambos, or just the difference in their bragging rights among other young, rich, professionals. Nobody is happy receiving less than their perceived market value for the job they're undertaking irregardless of the figures.

Only cost 1.9m and even if they get relegated they will sell him for a massive profit.

We have shot ourselves in the foot the wage structure needs sorting out if we are to compete.

However, & I know some disagree, I think he disrespected our offer with that weird "come and get me" statement after the media were suggesting he was coming to us.

It’s likely that our ‘accepted bid’ was leaked to the media by his agent to spark other clubs into auction-mode with contract offers. Probably had no intention of coming here.

Wilder’s said it himself that wages will need to go up and we’ll need to start spending more like a Premier League team. But that doesn’t mean making a back-up left back your team’s best paid player. In a few years’ time maybe we could throw 50k at that but we’re not there yet.

The problem is we won't be able get away with paying lower wages than the rest of the Premier League for much longer. How long before Egan or O'Connell's agents get in their ear and tell them they can earn £50k, £60k or £70k elsewhere?

We'll either have to match it (or at least get close) or sell them.

Fine, no issue paying our undisputed best players that... Some lad who has played as many PL minutes as this forum collectively to sit on our bench on the otherhand...

Making JOC our best paid player is completely different to making an unproven Championship left back who might not even be first choice our best paid player. It's a ballistic suggestion

He has a similar chance of playing for us as he does Fulham, if they offer him 50k a week he’s going to Fulham.

As far as I'm aware no one has suggest we pay Robinson £50k a week?

All those saying it is madness for Fulham are a bit short sighted because they are only paying 1.9 million and even if they go down they would be able to sell him for a huge profit he has a lot of potential.

We could have matched the fee but we are never going to suddenly promote a teenager to the top of our wage bill and risk pissing off the rest of the squad and damaging the team spirit which is a major part of why we are one of the best 10 sides in the country. If you can't see the common sense behind that I politely suggest you are at least 1 scotch egg short of a picnic.
