"Swift, the former Chelsea youngster, flew to Spain with a number of his Reading teammates after the final game of the Championship season - and will now have to self-isolate for two weeks upon his returns, thanks to restrictions put in place by the UK Government following a rise in Covid-19 cases in mainland Spain."

This will drag on longer than expected, gives time for other teams to tap him up. Whilst contracts etc could be negotiated the medical will have to wait thus the deal.

Yeah I saw that in the stir also.

I would guess the window will be slow to start with across the board as many players and managers will be on holiday in the first two weeks of the window. Presumably they'll be negotiations going on with clubs and agents but we may have to wait a week or two before we see anyone come in.

Slightly off topic but why can’t people returning just go for a test? Self isolate for 24 hours or so for the results. If all clear, carry on as normal, if positive self isolate for 14 days.

I think footballers will to be honest

Its due to the believed 14 day incubation period whereby the virus isn't active thus you would have a negative test result but still be infectious

Thanks for playing

Find! That! Thread!

Join us again for more fun next week, when we have Steve from Rotherham in search of the Darragh Lenihan thread, and a Pam from S2 in search of an existing one for an outgoing Simon Moore deal.
Does anyone know where the Ryan Leonard thread is?
(asking for a friend)

I won't lose any sleep if Swift is the player we get out bid on this summer. Squad player surely.

Why do I think this is going to be this summer's 100 pager?

He's a good footballer, progressive and a creater. Would be a good signing for the quoted 3-4 mill. But there's no way we're promising him first team football, or matching the wage someone like Villa would offer him.

Maybe Villa won't be quite so attractive if Grealish is there?

He's less likely to be a big wheel at Villa if they spend big like last season it will be a minefield at Villa, more players than enough and it wont be easy to off load unwanted ones.
The wages Villa pay are attractive but selling unwanted players will be difficult in the present climate.

We can but hope :)

"Sheffield United may have to pay at least £6 million to sign Reading midfielder John Swift with the Royals playing hardball over the fee, according to Courtney Friday from the Reading Chronicle".

Journalists have to fill column inches.
Some like Alan Nixon have multiple contacts and are held in high regard????
Others like Alan Nixon etc. just print any old crap as click bait.

You choose.

I very much doubt that the majority have a clue what is going on and just take an educated guess.
The only credible sources are senior figures of the buying and selling clubs and the players agents.
Sellers talk the price up to appease supporters
Buyers will want to keep quiet.
Agents will talk to anyone as they are only interested in getting a better deal for their client and subsequently themselves, but does not mean that what they say is fact.

Another summer of targets going to teams in a similar position.

Hopefully a similar outcome in the league next season too.

i would be very happy if we signed him. Looks like a handy player with creativity and skill who has a bit of magic in his locker - we really dont have anyone like that apart from L Freeman, and maybe didzy/mouse who can do this.

we need this type of player if we want to progress, players that can run around a lot are great but we need players who can unlock defences and create chances. Next season we need to massively improve our goal threat.

I read that the fee is£3.5m plus add ons

it might actually be £6m including add ons and therefore might not be much different to the original fee
