I've we've offered 10, they apparently want 15, why would be jump up to 10m plus a player that cost us in the region of 6m quid?

I realise the contradiction in what I said in terms of player valuations, but mainly I just think that the £10m+ L Freeman deal would very cleanly circumvent a few issues.
It gets rid of Luke Freeman from our wage bill (500k a year at a guess).
He gets a move to a big club, where he will play regular football, without the upheaval of relocating again & I doubt that he'd have to take a paycut in moving to Forest.

In return we get a player, on the up, at a great age, already familiar with some of the guys in our squad at the same monetary outlay we were willing to part with.

Seems fairly win/win.

Some opportunity loss on the L Freeman sale, but I always suspected we would try to use him in a make weight deal as Championship clubs don't have much money floating around right now.

You think Luke Freeman signed for us in the Prem for £10k a week? 😂

If CW wants him then he sees something. Let them battle it out for RWB. We don’t know who’s going to get that RWB spot but that is some serious competition.

I doubt Freeman and McBurnie are on as little as 20k a week. It’s the PL in 2020, not 1998.
The court report from McBurnie’s drink driving charge said £20k a week. I suspect that’s basic and he also gets appearance fees, goal bonus etc., which may not be included in any calculation of fines, as it’s not guaranteed.

Ok, 3 points:

1.
We might be Bergering him, play him RM to learn the system with a view to moving him to his proper position

Is that a sexual thing?

2.
I think £10m+ Luke Freeman would do it (maybe with some appearance based add ons at a push).

By all accounts L Freeman is exactly what they need in midfield & one they targeted in January. His market value must be circa £6-7m (note, we paid £5m but got a deal as he was in the final year of his contract).

Neither player would have to relocate & I presume Cash is pals with Osborn & J Robinson.

I'd feel a bit sorry for L Freeman if he does go. I really liked everything I saw of him when he did play, but - for whatever reason, Wilder has never seemed to fancy him as a player.
As a minimum, he is a top end Championship footballer & I think N Forest would be getting an excellent player for where they're at.

If this move does go ahead we should look to bring someone in to push Enda Stevens on the left too. Ben Osborn is clearly a midfielder.

We need as much quality as possible on our budget. For me, Freeman has to stay and be given more of an opportunity.

3. His name is Cash. We could have Bash and Cash in the side. For that reason, it's a yes from me.

I would've thought the left hand side would've been a bigger priority than RB/RM.

We are much more due an upgrade to Stevens than we are Baldock.

We have decent first options and decent cover options for all three left-sided roles, plus a promising youngster in RND that might be considered in the mix at some point for LWB. In contrast, we currently have no cover at RWB, no cover at RCB, and diminishing options at RCM if either Lundstram is sold or Berge more regularly moved centrally.

I’m all for upgrading on first team players where possible. But we have serious gaps in the squad, and I don’t think we can count on being as lucky with injuries next season.

I know a couple of Forest fans who really rate him.

I made the point a week or so back that we shouldn't be content with signing backup players, we need ones who will really push or improve the first 11. For me this definitely fits the bill, the fact there's a question raised about whether he'd replace George makes it the right sort of possible signing

Granted RWB wouldn't have been the first area I'd have gone (GK, RCM & Up-top as priorities), however no one actually knows our budget or any possible outgoings.

I say roll with it, great to see us linked with players like this!

Assuming this is true i rhink the main point here is that it shows we have a very sizeable budget this summer. As many have stated RWB is one of the last places id have expected us to spend over 10m on if we have a limited budget...unless of course we've had a bid for George that is too good to turn down.

He’s good all round and the right age from a development standpoint, his defensive stats I.e. Tackles won ranked 1st this season. Very promising. As is matt grimes both this season and last.

Unless we've found a money tree or a goose that lays golden eggs, £12m+ for a non international, championship level right wing back is bonkers. He's worth 1/2 that and there's better available on the continent.

As an aside, I appreciate he's predominantly left footed, but Ismail Jakobs is available at £9m, and he's at least a class above Cash, and 2 years younger.
Predominantly left footed being the key there 😂

I don't think we would need a freeman replacement, Osborn was good enough to backup fleck and enda, plus we could bring RND into the squad.

Genuinely don’t think we can go into the season without a single attacking midfielder in the squad!

With freeman injured our ability to change things in the middle of the park to try and win games from the bench looked basically Non existent.

A little snippet I was told last week;

Baldock (or his agent) pestered for a new contract. CW went in to bat for him and got him the offer. Baldock (or his agent) has since delayed signing as he wants to see if any other offers come in (there is interest, unsurprisingly). Been dragging on for weeks. Understandably, Wilder is pissed off.

If the above IS accurate, then either A) We’re using this Cash link to boot Baldock (or his agent) up the arse and get him to sign. Or B) we’re cashing in on Baldock (no pun intended) and genuinely are in for Cash as a direct replacement, which would explain why we are willing to part with £10m + on a RWB as we’ll directly use the Baldock money.

I’ve absolutely no way to substantiate whether its true or not; source came from a bloke a mate spoke to 🤷‍♂️ so didnt even bother to put anything on here. But since this Cash rumour has come up, it appears to fit in with the story alongside Wilders comments the other week about players coming to him for new contracts and not signing when offered.

Cash is £10mil but more than just a right back, he's spent his whole career as midfielder/winger. He could absolutely play RCM

Jack Lester our development manager will know Cash well as he had a similar post at Forest.
We will have inside info on there academy .

I like everyone else rate Baldock and he had a decent first season up in the Prem, one of our better players. However! Our system as we know relies so much on creativity from the wing backs and Baldock's play in the final third isn't as good as I'd like, but that's not having a go - he isn't a winger at the end of the day. He regularly gets in a one v one position with the opposition full back and he usually crosses from deep (usually defended), or passes it sideways/backwards when really it needs him to round the back (no intended reference to the John Barnes rap!) or get to the byline and cross the ball back to our incoming attackers (much harder for the opposition to defend), having engineered himself some space to do so by either skinning their player or just from getting a yard of space, like Paul Devlin did for example.

I actually think that upgrading on this is as important if not more important than signing a forward because. That may sound like I don't rate Baldock, but I do - lots - but just feel with the system we have and now in the PL we need to improve on going forward on the RWB, Stevens is better going forward in my view) and maybe this can only be done by recruitment but that in turn could bring even more out of Baldock.

I agree but won't swift be that attacking/creative midfielder?

A journo is claiming Cash would prefer a London move with West Ham being interested since Jan, but they would need to bid at least 15M. We are currently leading the chase. Southampton are also preparing reportedly preparing a bid worth 12M.

It's looking like a couple of clubs might eventually meet the valuation and it will be up to Cash to decide his destination.

No thanks, I'd rather keep £10m and Luke Freeman. In fact, I'd probably rather keep Luke Freeman if a straight swap was offered.
I'm 90% in agreement with this 10m + Freeman? Some of you guys are off your heads! I'm not a fan of Freeman so I would take a straight swap but 15-20m quid for a Championship player in a position that we don't really need to replace, if we're serious about this then I can't wait to see who we're going for up front.

First West Ham are after Eze, now it's Matty Cash. It's like their head of recruitment has realised after the Bowen signing that maybe the Championship isn't such a bad place to recruit players from. But in all seriousness, the West Ham stadium is awful, its owners are a joke, in general it's a dump of a club in a meh part of London but yeah sure head there BeCaUsE iTs In LoNdOn.

Best wishes,

A Londoner
