Looks like Henderson...

...will be playing for Man United next season...if DeGea's game today is anything to go by. See ya Dean. Thanks for the memories man.
Maybe we could get a post-loan clause drawn up so he doesn't play against us...?
Maybe we could get a blow job from Jennifer Aniston while we are asking for the impossible?😆

According to the pundits at the match today Man U want Henderson to go on loan for another year as Solly still has faith in De Gea despite the issues they are saying he lacks confidence not that his ability is in question. Very strange.

If ManU had any sense they would ship De Gea out at the earliest opportunity, and trust their confident, combative young English keeper in the same way that they have trusted Rashford, Greenwood and one or 2 others. But they don't have any sense when it comes to De Gea, and their other big stars. They will keep paying his lavish wages and pray that he sorts his shit out before too long.

The funniest part, is that these mistakes are still happening with no supporters on his back. Once the crowds come back, he will fare even worse. I actually expect their whole team to revert to form, once the disinterested Old Trafford faithful get back in their seats.

Man Utd would be incredibly stupid if they are starting next season with De Gea and not with Henderson. Hendo loves Man Utd, but if they keep showing you that they don't have faith in you even Hendo might lose his patience and move away permanent.

While that might seem logical, it’s kind of dependent on a willing buyer for De Gea. I don’t see who, particularly given the losses clubs have had, can really come in and match De Gea’s wages. They are pretty much stuck with him. Which is why I don’t think they’ll play Henderson next season.

Something I hadn't considered until now is whether, if Man Utd could find a taker for De Gea, they might try and buy a new keeper rather than play Henderson as first-choice. I'm sure they'll look at how transformative Alisson and Ederson have been for Liverpool and City in their ability to play as well as save, and with respect to Henderson, he is not that and may never get there.

For almost any other club it would seem absurdly excessive to not only bench one of your highest paid players but then also spend big on someone else when you have a good-not-great replacement ready to drop in, but this is Man Utd we're talking about - they just handed 31yo Nemanja Matic (32yo in 10 days) a 3-year contract, money means less to them than a lot of other clubs.

It really depends on whether they’re willing to have a different approach to that. You are right that their approach to that if they did that would be a departure of what the top teams are doing. I’m not convinced they would ship De Gea out on the basis of a season of Henderson at this level. And if they were as you said to ship him out, perhaps they’d be more likely to go for a short term option to then give Henderson that extra year to demonstrate why he should be made first choice in 21/22 for them.

The other question Man U might have is: “has he learnt as much from Sheffield United as he’s going to?” I don’t think they would send him elsewhere in the UK, but if for example a top European side offered to loan him for a year, perhaps one that would require him to do more sweeper-keeper type work, presumably they’d send him there if they want to make him as ready as possible for them in 21/22?

Side point but I also think the narrative over De Gea's form is HUGELY overplayed! Even yesterday he made two really good saves, and to be honest the error for Mount's goal wasn't something that made me jump out of my seat in horror - see mistakes like that almost every week around the league. It makes for good content though, particularly when you've got pundits who not only have a propensity to rant but also have a Man Utd connection (Roy Keane) - so I think it just gets exacerbated. I feel like this debate about his ability has been going on for at least the last 2 years after he was really poor for Spain at the 2018 World Cup.

I've no idea how Opta classify their "errors leading to goals" stats (feels very subjective to me and thus not that meaningful), but De Gea has made the same as Ederson, one more than Rui Patricio and Vicente Guaita etc. It's hardly disastrous.

My hunch is De Gea is Man Utd's number 1 for many years yet and that a lot of this gets forgotten between seasons.

Depends how much the board and marketing department share OGS' vision of a class of 92 part 2, with academy players making up the majority of the team, or even back OGS. If they're in the Champions League they might start getting twitchy and want a big name manager again.

Currently I'd say they're as likely to be drawn in to a chase to sign Onana or something as they are to stick Henderson in as number 1.

I honestly believe behind manures defence Henderson will be found to be no more than above average, many games he rarely has much to do, and he mostly knows and trusts his defence at the Blades. Manure defence pretty fragile and even with Henderson's confidence it won't paint over the cracks, if even the "best keeper" in the world gets such a loss of form and confidence, that young fella is going to get hurt physically and mentally .
Not a popular view but I think I'll be proven correct. We shall see.

What it boils down to is the old “he’s on so much money a week he should be saving everything“ caricature, unfortunately, thats Man Utds problem for allowing agents to squeeze capital out of their club. His form historically has been good Which as also amplified some of his mistakes. In terms of his ability there has been some EXPERIMENTAL data sets created that show him as one of the bottom 5 keepers in the division in terms of difficulty of shots faced in relation to saves made.

My take for what it’s worth is I still think Hendos kicking is an issue, he even alluded as much in the video thing with McBurnie. It is by far the weakest part of his game and it’s questionable if Manchester United would throw him in until he improves in that area.
Whether or not they see that being developed sufficiently here or he needs to go elsewhere is anyone’s guess

DdG's performance yesterday will be quickly forgotten if, as it appears will be the case, Man Utd secure a Champions League spot.

Dean Henderson Do You?

Want a future in the Premier League starting every match?

Want a future in the Premier League playing in front of fans that think you are great?

Want a future in the Premier League playing behind a top class defence?

Want a future in the Premier League playing for the best manager in the land?

Yes?

Then sign for the Blades!

That would be great and most blades fans would agree with you BUT we have to be realists no way can we afford the fee or his wages.

Personally I don't give a monkeys about what he can do for Man U. what worries me is what happens when he leaves us, because who ever has to replace him is going to have to hit the ground running or the fans will eat him alive.
Hendo's set a very high standard and because of his massive self confidence has given confidence to those around him and confidence is all for a goalkeeper no matter how much potential he has, imagine what's going to happen if a nervous new guy has by Hendo's standards a couple of bad games ?
We would have another John Hope on our hands all over again, and if you don't know about John Hope ask your dad.
And (for what it's worth) I believe the longer Hendo ( the legend ?) stays, the worse it's going to be for who ever has to fill his boots........

I read a report somewhere that analysis of Spanish and German matches since the restart have seen an increase in goal keeper errors In lockdown you can't really replicate the day to day training goal keepers do to keep them sharpe Apparently more mistakes by younger goal keepers

De Gea is a fixture at Old Trafford,he has recently negotiated a new pay deal and contract with the current management.I honestly can’t see them throwing him under the bus in favour of Dean Henderson next season, even though he has made a few unforced errors recently. He is only 29 has played over 300 games for Man Utd and still very highly rated,I think Dean is still a couple of years away from being first choice. However, would another season loan be the right deal for us,or would now be the time for us to look abroad and invest circa £20m in our own ‘keeper ? A big decision, with money tight and maybe other areas of the team in a more pressing need of Improvement, difficult decisions ahead for Chris.

There are still two big issues with Henderson In my opinion.
1. His kicking. Now he can kick it with both feet, and can kick it miles. The direction is often off target and he Certainly can’t dink a pass 50 yards to the wing to create width for hIs team and wipe out a high press from an opponent. Passes back to him usually result in a 50/50 somewhere in the middle of the pitch.
Command of his area- Rarely comes and claims crosses and has been caught on the back foot a few times with long punts upfield over the back line. Not sure if it’s his starting position or concentration but compared to others he rarely takes up a position to help the defence deal with those long balls behind our defence when they are pushed up the field. Maybe this is how Wilder likes it but it is an observation of mine:

For this two reasons he isn’t the best in the league. Maybe those will come with experience but for me I can’t see Man U looking to move out De Gea for Hendo, and as others have said playing for us and playing for them is a different animal in several ways, but the less pressure at the Blades is certainly more conducive to improving that Manure.

When Manure got relegated in the 70s their joint top scorer at Christmas was Alex Stepney who scored 4 from the penalty spot.

De Gea doesn't even have that to fall back on.

He's shit!

I'd counter that with for every Allison and Everson there's a Kepa and a Pickford.

As much as the 'continental' style of keeping is en vogue - there's still a solid argument to be made for someone who can do the fundamentals of the job. This seems to be De Gea's weakness. His first movement always seems tentative to me...

This has been my position on the topic on Hendo's future for the past few seasons. Man Utd would rather spend big on a new keeper than promote Henderson.
As it happens I don't think he's yet ready to start and hold down a No1 position at one of the biggest clubs in the world, however Manchester United is now all about the product. They've pretty much topped out their revenues in traditional areas and for the last few seasons it's all about merchandising, social media content, advertising, hits and clicks.
Dropping DeGea and promoting Hendo get's them very little worldwide exposure on these platforms apart from maybe a small blip on the day they announce he's not going out on loan.
Signing Oblak for £60-70 odd million would generate a crazy amount of revenue for them, offsetting the transfer fee and keeping them in the public eye as one of the biggest clubs in the world doing the biggest deals which drives sponsors.

Selling Henderson to ourselves for £20-30 million, with a buy back clause of whatever is the world record for a keeper at the time, probably makes them more money over the next 3-4 years than keeping him and just promoting him in DeGea's place.

And as Diddy told us, it's all about the Benjamin's.

1. He will be expected to play the ball short for Manure. None of us know what his short range passing is like because well hes instructed to boot it long for us, so how anybody can say his kicking is an issue is beyond me.

Rarely comes and claims crosses do you watch us at all ? Hes very comfortable under a cross and comes and claims with authority when he has to.

Is he the best in the league ? No is he a fantastic goalkeeper and in the top half dozen and are we lucky to have him ? Yes

Maybe your trying to convince yourself as to why OGS should send him here again next year but what you have written really has little bearing on reality in terms of his ability.
