Budget 2020/21

I think given we dipped into the 20/21 budget with the Berge signing we’ll likely spend a similar amount that we did last summer within this window and then hold some funds for maybe one more signing through to January if needed.

Think we'll splash in 2 positions, £15m+, keeper if Henderson's not coming, or maybe we will anyway and not try and get Hendo, and a striker, if we sell C. Robinson add that on, and any other monies from sell ons should Bournemouth go down, add those on to these two positions.

After that I expect us to raid Championship and perhaps continental clubs who need the cash, £3-5m will have a lot more value I think, so we'll get some decent players. RWB, CB, RCB, AMF/10 so I reckon between £45m and £60m if a lot of things fall into place like Bournemouth selling Brooks and Ramsdale (although Watford losing tonight means they're in with a good chance of surviving imo) and if we decide to sue Hawkeye for lost profits should we fail to get Europa League football by 1 or 2 points.

Quite a high number of players leaving this summer, out of contract, so will free up some of the wages budget
Lower income because of covid 20/30 million
Increase in Sky income, after finishing in the top 10
Need to sell a few players if possible Robinson, Freeman
Then need a new forward
Pacy midfield, winger type of player
Creative mid field player
With out over spending need to keep on improving the team

So it was about £50m for this season, what about next season?
My guess is a lot less. If you listen to CW interviews over the last few years he always gives hints in his interviews. He said few days ago the starting line up will pretty much be the same next season.

I keep saying it ! if we dont add quality and pace this window next season will be a struggle.
Wilder said himself stand still and we go backwoods.
2nd season syndrome looms large we have to strengthen.

Depends what the clubs ambition is. If it’s to just stay up, then £30m. If it’s to kick on to the next level then £60m

A great article in the athletic reports that our wage bill is currently 23% of the premier league average and 9% of what Man City are paying. The point is that Wilder is doing a great job and comparisons with teams like Ipswich in 2000 are unfair because they were able to pay 2/3 of the average wage bill. It is incredible how well we're doing, spending so much less than teams like Brighton- I'm going to stop my Leicester related sulk now.

But looking forward, we can't keep getting away with this, can we? If we're going to be an established premier league team we need to pay premier league wages, maybe triple what we're paying now.

Alternatively, maybe the 'rona is a blessing for us. Say the average salary drops because clubs are poorer than before, all the other prem teams are stuck paying huge contracts that they signed in the last couple of years so we have more spare cash. I'm not an accountant.

God I remember the days I could splash in two positions, sadly those days are gone, ah well ni mind,
Sorry about that I got completely distracted which is probably the reason for the above

If Lundstram cannot get a new contract, despite the current wage expenditure being really low, why is there an assumption that more money will be available next season?

Player goes in and asks for £x.

Manager doesn’t think player is worth £x and offers £y.

What does this have to do with our transfer budget for next season?!

I support the club in not just giving a contract to Lundstram at the level he’s asked if it’s higher than what they think he’s worth.

Can.only assume this guy means if you win.it and qualify for the champions league as first place in the Europa league will earn the winner an accumulative total of €13.8 million including prize money for every group stage and victory

It’s an article from the Athletic, it’s the TV money and Sponsorship that figure is referring to, and it’s just for qualifying into Group stage, not winning it.

Budget alluded to here. No head-turning transfers, will be looking at getting in players to improve, confident we’ll have a stronger squad come end of the window.
He said similar on pitch after Leicester - no massive changes or something. Maybe some lower league / overseas goal scoring punts, plus 1 £20m+ signing ??
Improved wages for key players will.suck in budget too.

Unless he’s lying through his teeth, it would seem the budget is significantly down on where it would have been pre-Covid, which is no surprise given the loss of TV money, match day income, sponsorship revenue, etc. There is also no certainty on when things will return to normal, IMO it would be reckless to wade ahead as if nothing had happened. Pure speculation, but I would expect the bulk of the available funds to be concentrated on a few key positions with cheaper signings to strengthen the squad, such as the backup keeper we brought in yesterday. I agree with you. But if there’s not much money what can we do?
