Interesting to see how crowds were generally much lower back then.

Were away fans at Norwich behind the goal in those days? I prefer away fans being behind the goal, it makes it a better atmosphere.

Yes although not directly behind if that makes sense. It was split in 2 with Norwich fans slightly more central and us a bit to the left as you looked onto the pitch

Never realised we were 2-0 up. I was on holiday in Majorca at the time and had to wait for the newspaper to find out the score. How times have changed!

Now those were the days. The anticipation followed by the disappointment

In our division four days I was on holiday in Cornwall when United were at Wigan. We were listening to the final scores from someone's car radio nearby. Thanks to James Alexander Gordon's tone of voice, we knew United had won but didn't know the score!

Never mind that, look at the size of the crowd at the Sty.
They were massive even then.

The return of Big Ron was the most eagerly anticipated game of the season. The people arranging the fixtures must have been having a laugh making it the opening game.

Great to see that Colin Hill netted that day. For some reason he was a bit of a legend in our house - aged about 8 I trod on his toe in a botched attempt to get his autograph, my dad always joked that it was this toe injury that ended his career.

Yes,that’s how it was for the 1989 cup game,bloody rubbish view as well.

It was definitely the corner. We took 3,800 fans, the capacity having been reduced from when we took 5,000 in the Cup in 1989. The Norfolk police commented afterwards "The Sheffield United supporters certainly like a drink and cheered a corner louder than many fans cheer a goal." We played really well that day. In my memory the Norwich goals were later than that and I didn't realise we were only 2-0 up for a minute. The news from Hillsborough was amusing and we sang "Oh Ronny Ronny Atkinson" at full-time.

notice how every single team who was at home that day gets bigger home gates now except Wednesday.

They are also one of the few clubs who are averaging less than they were in 1985-6, the post war low for aggregate gates.

No, I was with my good friend from school who supports Norwich. From 1986 until 2004 I always watched Norwich v Blades with my mate in Barclays End (apart from the 1990/91, 1992/93 and 1993/94 seasons when I was in the away section), and for Blades v Norwich he was with me in the Kop/John Street/South stand

I sat in the Norwich end with a locally based mate in the 1992/3 and 1993/4 away games. I even cheered Blake’s goal in the latter game and no one complained. You couldn’t do that at Carrow Road now.

I think the only time I’ve been behind the goal at Norwich was when it was a covered terrace, behind the goal to the right of where we sit now. It might have been their kop and was in the days before segregation.
