McBurnie Drink Driving bust

Sell him in January, flopped on the pitch (so far) and brings too much infamy off it.

Yeah that's sensible.

Let's burn the TV money cheque while we're at it.

Sell him in January we'll just lost about £10m and a striker.

He's trouble, won't grow up and is Wilder's worst signing to date. Pre season I was all over him signing for us, great move but life is never that easy. He's got it all to prove for me and if he can't, take the hit and move on. His price tag is of no real relevance. If he's a dud get what you can back and go again.

Surely you have to give him a chance to prove it though? He's played 480 minutes.

I will 100% and I think he could be a good player for us but his off the pitch antics aren't great. I don't think he really wanted to come here in the first place and I can see him if not already pissing Wilder right off.

I can't believe the negativity towards him just because he's not looked like a £20m forward doesn't mean he'll not prove to be a great player for us. Not all players hit the heights they did at their last club right at the beginning. I've seen enough of McBurnie on the pitch to see how he could be a real handful for us.

The drink driving incident is regrettable but that is a separate issue and if its true that he only had one pint than he can consider himself unfortunate to be done, but some will say that he shouldn't have drank anything.

If we sold him in January we'd be taken a loss on him and we'd need to replace him with someone else. It wouldn't be good business, he needs to the end of the season minimum.

The legal limit is 35. Two pints of beer would get you up to that, so he either had three pints or had more but the alcohol was going out of his system. Today was an initial plea hearing, he won't have given a reason today, just stated whether he was guilty or not guilty as it wasn't a full trial.

If he pleaded guilty then he would have lost his licence immediately. If he goes not guilty then he only gets banned at the point of conviction, so he can keep driving in the meantime.

It could simply come down to that. He might not live in Sheffield and has to travel far to the Lane and Shirecliffe. Maybe he's planning to move to the area so pleaded not guilty so that he make the arrangements in the interim before pleading guilty on the day, or change his plea prior to trial.

Lots of people play the system when it comes to keeping their driving licences for a bit longer until found guilty.

Shades of Leon Britton ?

jesus christ... lets stick with the lad for more than 2 months shall we?

he is 23. proven goalscorer down the leagues. not everyone is a lunny and takes to the prem like a duck to water... and then again... it took him 2 years on the bench to get upto scratch! McB made a mistake and he will learn, if he doesnt, ship him on

on the face of it so far, none of our signings this season have been good except for Mousse.. And actually McB would be our second highest scorer if it wasnt for VAR... They will take some time to adjust, i cant see it happening for em until next year tbh, maybe longer

I think you're right. There's a similar perspective to this on the SYFF site - link below:

His attitude on the pitch for first few matches was winding me up , acting like a petulant child moaning at ref all time, falling to the ground like a seasoned Premier league player, but having seen him run through our defence to score the winner for Barnsley the other season against us I still believe there is a player in there just needs a goal and to get used to what's expected of him in the team , he is improving with his work rate last couple of games v Liverpool etc

Apparently he got pulled over because there was 3 of them in a 2 seat car and from what I'm hearing it's unlikely he only had one drink.

I've got this from a mate of a mate type thing, so might not be 100% accurate. We'll find out when it gets to court!

i was once stopped for drink driving and sent some crystals, a very thin line over the limit. I protested I hadnt been near a drink just had a bag of crisps
was arrested locked up and gave a blood sample
About a month later police called to say sorry my blood sample showed no trace of alcohol, but it was something in a bag of spicey monster munch that had reacted with the crystals
So there should be some leeway in breath tests as they are obviously not infallible
That must have been a while ago don’t think they’ve used breathalysers with crystal tubes for thirty odd years

I've heard of similar to this happening on a Major Construction Project in the UK; lad was kicked off site for failing breathalyser but he didn't drink at all - Pulled Pork Sandwich from a butty van round the corner did him... proved it when 4 of his colleagues all went to the boss with a sandwich each; passed the test, ate the sandwich, then failed the test.

1- Why is he the worst signing ? Based on what

2- Why does he need to grow up based on what ? Should he dress smarter

Please come back with some evidence instead of slagging off a player just cause he wears a stone island jacket ??

As Bert commented at the game last Saturday...he runs around like a lad on the school cross country who would rather be inside.

I think he just has that laugh languid style and it wouldn’t matter if he had scored 10 goals up to now, his running style would look the same. I must admit the Mcburnie who has come on in the last couple of games lacks the intensity of the one who came on against Palace.

A trial just before the end of the season...What could go wrong 🤔

Being pedantic I really don't like it when they report him as being '1.5 times over the limit'. That would be 87.5 micrograms. He was actually only around 50% more than the limit and not the 150% that they are implying.

If they'd said he was '1.5 times OF the limit' I'd be more content.

Mini rant over.

Corrected it for you

It all went wrong for him he had that jumper on with a owl on it....... The footballing gods have magical ways of working

He seems to be getting very friendly with Ravel from what I've seen on instagram. Hope he's not influencing Oli. He does seem a twat

I'll write him off when (and if) Chris Wilder writes him off. Till then he has my full support and trust that he will come good for us. I felt the same way about Lundstram. If I'd been in Wilder's shoes I wouldn't have had the patience he's shown in him, but managing a village team 30-odd years ago wouldn't have been a good enough CV pitch for the Blades job anyhow......

So when you were managing this village team 30 years ago, you’d have dropped one of your players because he’d been done for drunk driving? Or because you didn’t like what he wore?

Neither - like many on here I didn't think Lundstram would be good enough to step into a quality midfield and probably wouldn't have had the faith in him that Wilder had. My faith in Wilder is as solid as ever, and unless he has some sort of Warnockesque ultra away-from-home defensive mind-numbing blow-out, that will remain the case.

Fucking idiot that’s what he is

He acted like an idiot and got the punishment that comes with it. The article I read on it says he's embarrassed and hopefully he'll learn from it. This hasn't happened yesterday so its not like its new news, its just the punishment for it.

He won't be the first or the last Blades player that has come the wrong side of the law, not that that makes it ok. I've driven like an idiot when I was younger, about his age, and over the limit. I'm not proud of it by any means, I also had 9 points on my licence speeding everywhere and then you wake you and think what on earth am I doing?! As I say, I hope this is also a turning point/ time to reflect etc. re off the pitch, he seems a decent lad to me to be honest.
