CW's transfer budget

Would anyone be prepared to spend the money on a top class striker? For me that's the priority next season. The other trades will fall into place and I'm sure if required funds will be available. The squad overall is pretty good and we've come along way in a short period of time. Goals is what it's all about hence my suggestion.

OK so you think our wage bill will be lower than 45 million
Will it be lower than last seasons of 34 million
Or somewhere in between ?

Shall we say 40 million ?
Which would be easily the lowest in.the division.probably by about 50 %

So a third of the budget ,but let's be honest we won't attract anyone decent on those wages and
Makes a bit of a mockery of your ridiculous 600 % increase comment
Where you got £34 million last season from? Our average wage to playing squad last year was just under £9k a week. Players had a bonus equivalent to 1 years salary for getting promotion. Look in the accounts.

I expect to see Ramsdale to return

I can see Bournemouth wanting too much money for Ramsdale, even if they are relegated. I think signing either Byindir or Cakir as a cheaper option might be better as it will give us more funds to strengthen the team in other areas.

Last years accounts say the wage bill was 34 million
The years before was 19 which would make the average wage 14000 ,that was two seasons ago

Time will tell.

I felt a twinge of unease when we gave Didsy another two years, He has done a great job for us but it’s one of the roles I thought we would be looking to upgrade on this summer.

It was £37 million across 192 staff. If the non playing staff earned a total of £3 million - to use your figures -then £34m across 113 staff is £3.5k a week. If you have a playing squad average of £9k a week for 25 players, that is £11.7 million. Add to it another £11 million for bonuses it means the rest of the playing staff including the manager, coaching staff etc etc earned on average £2.5k a week.

If we have increased to £35k a week from £9k a week as per your original suggestion......

I agree to an extent but my view rather depends on if we’ve increased his wages by a lot or just extended the years of the deal. We won’t really find that out will we

You are saying last season it was 11.4 million ? And our average wage was 9k a week

Wow

Before lockdown I thought we may look at him if they went down and offer him a season loan with them to sweeten the deal, especially if we could secure Hendo for another year. I can’t see that as an option now.
I also do not think the gap between him and Hendo is as large as suggested, he’s just not had as much experience so it maybe a year behind him. Another year in the PL will see him grow further and a year in the championship would also do him the world of good, but if we keep Hendo next year and Aaron spends another year with Bournemouth we should seriously look at him the year after.
I’m not concerned around the transfer budget as it’ll be similar to last year but in a deflated market. The trick, as always is to do the right deals and stay away from the wrong ones (obviously), but we aren’t scared to walk away as we’ve shown. Championship clubs are going to have to sell or they’re really doubling down on the risk given the larger Covid impact on their finances, and the fact the EFL now has a free hand to limit overspending. Players will also see this season as a one golden opportunity because once the PL is back to business are usual they’ll be looking abroad as per normal. If played right there are going to be some great deals that can be done within the English leagues, for hungry players, who fit or ethic and wage structure which hopefully will then leave a few bob for a bigger name signing like a Eze or Watkins if that’s who we want.
All in all, I think it suits us nicely as our biggest strength is the mentality, ethos and togetherness of our squad.

Nobody outside the top clubs can attract 'top class players'.
Both because financially they cost to much, and because they're not interested in signing for the lesser clubs in the league........
Werner is the example to both the above points.

You have to pay £15-40 million, and then hope you can progress them to becoming 'top class'.....By that point you're probably forced to sell, and the process begins again.

Take Berge.
You buy him for £20 million, you hope he adds to the first eleven for 2-3 years and progresses to the level of say Ndidi, where he is then worth
£80 million+, you sell, and re-invest it back into 2/3/4 more 'Projects'.
If you can't outspend teams, like Man City can, it's the only way to improve your squad over a period of time.

Someone like Callum Wilson, who is not 'top class' but probably at the very top end of 'realistic signing', who on average gets 10 goals a season, would cost upwards of £50 million.
So its all above developing players yourself.

Wow
For the first team playing squad. Read the accounts and work it out. There are 113 people in the playing budget. What do you think the average was?

According to you the other 90 staff working at Sheffield united shared out twenty three million in wages between them and the players eleven

Never said that. If you read what I put - and if you read the accounts it says as much - I said the 1st team squad received equivalent of 1 year salary for gaining promotion. So I ask again, what do you think the average was?

According you its 600 per cent less than fifty million so what's that work out at ?

Doesn't this make us Business Model FC MkII?

So where did I say the first team squad consisted of 113 people?

The only thing that concerns me is that just before lockdown Bettis said that the budget in the summer won't take into account of what the Prince has to pay for the club. unless that now the price is being contested its affected the playing staff budget?

Can't beat a good accountants debate on Saturday lunchtime. Back to my beer and Wotfod Vs Lister.😎

bromtom Going to sit in the sun with my coolbag icepacked up and loaded with lager. Tunes on too😎

Read back what I put previously. I've given you my workings for the first team squad and the rest of the playing staff. Your turn now.

If our wages take up 50% of TV money it means we've given everyone a 600% increase on average compared to last season.

25 man ? first team squad, £9.5 pw average
- £12350000. A 600% increase adds £74 million to the wage bill. For the first team in 2019 plus the additions.

£9.5k plus 600% increase = £66.5k pw. £86m wage bill.

I did say on back of fag packet. But the claim was that first team average was 35K which is £45.5 million. So just under 500% increase then?

Plus any sales

Around £8m for Callum Robinson to WBA for example, plus his wages

Plus loan wages that have been saved such as Zivkovic, Retsos and Besic

Up to £30m now ....................... all good ;)
Remember that transfers fees are paid over a number of years. Often big stumbling block is funding the wages.
