I did say on back of fag packet. But the claim was that first team average was 35K which is £45.5 million. So just under 500% increase then?

Nowhere near unfortunately. That still adds over £60m to the wage bill.

£45.5m is 368% x £12,350. But not an increase of 368%.......

I said it on another thread but, assessing our squad I think we'll need to spend at least another £60m(ish) this Summer to bring in what we need.

Goalkeepers
Moore
Verrips

Clearly, if Henderson isn't going to be an option (& it looks less & less likely each week), we're going to need a first choice goalkeeper.
We seem to be strongly linked with Altay Bayindir at approx. £10-15m.

Defenders
Baldock
Basham
Egan
O'Connell
Robinson
Stevens

Our left side looks OK with J Robinson, Enda Stevens & Ben Osborn all versatile enough to cover those two positions.

But it's unlikely K Freeman & Jagielka are going to be extended - so we're going to need cover for the central & right sides positions; Egan, Basham & Baldock.

I haven't seen many links, but I think we'll go for Championship players again as cover.
Probably two players to cover the three positions. I'd estimate around £5-10m will be needed.

Midfield.
Lundstram
Berge
Norwood
Fleck
Osborn
L Freeman

I can see L Freeman & Lundstram both being sold in the Summer to raise funds, which would leave us short in attacking output from midfield. I have a feeling both want out for different reasons.

I certainly think we'll need someone to replace Lundstram in that wide-right role. I'm not convinced Berge is going to be the immediate answer there.

So as well as a starting midfielder, I think we will also need one, maybe two guys to come in as cover in the wide positions.

I'd expect around £20-25m to be needed here - most of which would be spent on replacing Lundstram.

Strikers
McGoldrick
Sharp
Mousset
McBurnie
C Robinson

They all offer something, but they're all coming up a little bit short for one reason or another.
C Robinson doesn't look like he's going to work out for us, I expect us to move him on.

We're definitely going to need to bring a player in & one immediately ready to improve the starting XI.
I liked the look of what Davis brought to Villa in that opening 30 minutes, someone with those sorts of attributes would be ideal. Pace, power, nusicance factor, able to lead the line.

I'd expect around £25-35m might be needed & it will probably be at the top end of that & smash our transfer record.

Some of the above costs would of course be offset by sales.
I'd hope that we could fetch £8-10m for Lundstram, £10-13m for C Robinson & £5-8m for L Freeman.

Does anyone know what the prize money is for finishing 5th - 8th?

Hopefully if we finish 5th then we should get a nice bonus fund to help with our wage/transfer budget.

Also of course any £ added from European qualification. I know that the Euro league money is substantially less than CL money. I'm not sure what the actual figures are though.

I think it would be. Roughly £45.5m - £12.3m = £33.2m. £33.2m ÷ 12.3m = 350%. So the 600 was a bit extreme but do you think we've gone from £9.5k a week to £35k a week?

We're always going to be among the lowest spenders in the Premier League.

Plenty of value to be found in the championship.

We're desperately lacking pace and creativity, defensively we're fine but maybe a bit of depth wouldn't go amiss.

Last year 5th £30 mill, 6th 28 mill, 7th 26 mill, 8th 24 mill.

The Champions League is the Holy Grail cash cow of football. You got nearly £3 mill just for winning a game. Add the potential increase in revenue from sponsorship and you can see why the Top 6 are obsessed with getting there.

Your percentages are wrong because you refer to them as increases. 350% x £12.35m isn’t an increase of 350%. It’s 268%. Your original figure was 600%. Miles out.

l’ve no idea of the first team contracts but the new signings this season may well be up there.

Did say 600 was extreme but my excuse was I was gardening at time 😃😃. However https://www.skillsyouneed.com/num/percent-change.html so not disagreeing!

I wouldn't expect the transfer budget to be significantly less than this season.
(Discounting the potential damage that Covid does across the board of course).

Can't see us selling Lunny, think we'll take the year option and maybe sell in January if he's not going to sign. I think we'd take a lower fee in Jan if need be and gamble on him either signing a new deal or having a good first half of the season for us - it's not like we have a big investment to protect, he only cost a few hundred K.

Luke Freeman I agree he may go, depends on his agent, he does seem to be unfairly overlooked.

Robinson could be a big profit for us, if he's finishes as he was before the shutdown, West Brom could chuck some serious dosh at us for him, as Bilic seems very keen on him. I'd hope for top end, £13-15m which could fund a striker more suitable for our system.

I'm sure if the budget is not that high, Wilder will be looking for freebies which is not a bad thing tbh

I can't imagine we'll make money on Robinson since WBA know we don't fancy him. If he has a very good end of season we might get out money back. I imagine the market has depressed somewhat since last year with less money around.

That doesn’t say Wages have increased by 368% or whatever. Your example suggested wages increased by 600% giving rise to a cost of £114m in cash terms. Even on a fag packet that’s clearly wrong.
Not disagreeing.

Lets start again then. If wages have increased to £35k on average for first team squad we have increased our average best part of four fold this year.

Hows that sound?

Whether we fancy him or not (and the word from Wilder is he's got a future here), West Brom definitely fancy him, we aren't going to let him go cheap because we're not that bothered.

West Brom will want some continuity for their first season back assuming they get promoted, and they'll have some money. We're in a strong position.

So fuck em then, good luck finding another option for that price who’ll fit into their system.
He’s a premier league player who’s well within his contract. We’ll definitely make money on that deal.

Why is he playing in the Championship then?
Other side of the coin and all that.

This summer window will be interesting. I hope the lower league clubs aren't so damaged financially that their players can be picked off for peanuts.

He's a player that is contracted with a PL club, but I'd say that he's a proven championship level player, that didn't pull out any trees in the Prem for us. The argument might be that we played him out of position. Anyhows, if he cost us circa £7m, i'd be extremely happy if we could break even on him; transfer fee & wages wise. I wouldn't want him back at BDTBL next season.

To WBA in their 1st season back in the PL, £8m-ish for a player that they know can play in their system, gets on with the group, just turned 25 and is happy to live in the west midlands, represents sensible business. We need, and should expect better.

Personally think Robinson will get at least another season with us (and rightly so, even though I wasn't keen to sign him) he's shown flashes, he just needs to settle.
Looks like Lundstram is hanging on but I'm not sure he'll be in as much demand as he thinks, as I've said before just agree a fee at which he can be bought and both sides can be happier.
Jags I suspect may move into management a support role, so we need more in defence.
Henderson's wages (or Man Utd's want for us to cover them) I think will finally price him out of our reach.
Can't see any of the other OOC players will stay and as we've already seen we need a bigger squad.
Our hunting grounds will probably be Europe and the Championship.

No one expected us to spend much in the summer. We spent more than we ever dreamed of, particularly spending close to 30 million on forwards alone.

we all thought we’d spent up in the summer coming into January - then we broke our transfer record again spending over 20 million quid on a highly rated young player from abroad. No way we imagined that.

the prince and the board have more than backed wilder so far. I can see us being surprised again. Even if we just sign one or two, not like we’re desperate for a squad overhaul after what we’ve achieved this season is it.

As long as we keep our best players (minus Hendo probably) we shouldn't be in that much trouble next season. Corona actually increases the chances that we're keeping the likes of O'Connell, Fleck & Norwood, since every other club has limited money.

As long as we replace hendo, and sign some talented players we're gonna be fine. European football would be huge for attracting talented players.

If wages take up.about 50 percent of the TV money I can't see the budget being more than 20 million
Getting a bit worried about next season ,going to be a huge challenge

We don't need to add a great deal though, depending on how a few of the latest signings work out of course.

At worst I think we might need an experienced keeper, decent competition for Baldock and maybe another striking option.

As already said, we will probably ship a few out too.

Loads of people said that we only had £2.50 and a bag of chips to spend before we spent £22m on Berge.
