If he has a job lined up he may as well just go and train with them now, if I was anything to do with Charlton from fan to employee to owner I would not want this man paying from his last game to the end of his contract.

Is it disrespectful, or refreshingly honest? You only have to cast your gaze at the Devlin thread to see the problems of players with an eye on a move putting in a half-arsed performance when the expectation from manager/fans would have been different. The same was true for Brown late 2003 and others I’ve probably forgotten about.

Rather than not say anything, and put in an appalling performance, at least as a result of his views expressed Bowyer can pick a striker that is likely to give 100%. For Taylor, it’s probably his last opportunity of a big move this summer. I’m sure Charlton fans are furious with this, as I’d be in their situation, but he might have made a decision that’ll benefit Charlton in the games to come.

You’re contracted up to a point for a reason and are expected to fulfil this, regardless of the situation. In any other form of employment you would face disciplinary action. I don’t care if Charlton had a game on the 29th of June I’d be expecting him to play and give 100%

Refreshingly honest would be to say to manager and fans, ' my contracts up, I don't want to get injured and that's why I'm not playing. I don't expect to draw a wage for this period.'

I agree Blade it doesn't seem right for him to pick up his wages when not making himself available to play.
Another angle is less than total commitment puts a player at risk of injury would he be wired in to the cause and give his best ? probably not.
Neshing certain situations puts the player in more risk .
The honesty of the player is key .its a terrible position for Lee Bowyer.
Looking at it as a punter! players running down there contracts and not really giving there best is a tricky situation for all clubs.

So about three-quarters refreshingly honest?

Wilder’s view on this type of situation came up earlier into the lockdown incidentally when asked about the issue of players agreeing to extend past their contract expiring: “People want to see everything put into the football club. If players are looking at it from an individual point of view and worried about their careers and want to go down that road, from my point of view I’d let them do it.”

but say to Freeman we'd like to offer you another 1+1?
Which would seem to be double standards (but in the grand scheme doesn't matter).
Duffy probably a poor choice as he should've got himself hooked up already.

Isn’t that kind of what we’re doing with Besic, if rumours are true, by saying we’ve opted not to extend your loan but are extending all the other loans? There’s no automatic process involved in extending any of these deals. We’ll be weighing up the pros and cons, and I don’t see why the players concerned shouldn’t be either.

I suppose as with Duffy anybody who was coming to the end of their contract should've had their agent on it, It just became difficult because of C19.

Can't believe anyone would try and defend him tbh.

He's a professional which means he gets paid well for helping his employer to do the best they can.

Whilst It's perfectly understandable he doesn't want an injury to scupper his last lucrative move, trying to pretend he's anything other than an unprofessional selfish cunt is laughable.

This last few weeks as shown quite a few players as hypocrites.

I notice players aren't worried about catching the virus now, or at least they've stopped publicly saying they are.
