I now see Kyel Reid has now moved to Charlton on a permenant deal !
Another Blackwell fiasco
Never had a chance
An already threadbare squad depleted even further with less than four weeks to go till the new season
Reid is just another example of players that Blackwell cannot get to perform alongside Sharp, Evans, Cotterill, Quinn, Hendrie, Howard, etc yet he continues with the likes of Taylor, France, et al
Blackwell OUT!

He wasn't any good but it'll help pay for Walton's wages.

Blackwell signed him
If he wasn't very good then it speaks volumes regarding Blackwell judgement of players

As much as I'd have a smile if Blackwell walked; is he the only manager who has signed a player and he's turned out poor?

We've probably made a profit overall on him, so what does it matter if we've let a poor player go to a club the league below?

Nothing to do with his personal life then

What part of his personal life are you talking about. Is there a reason why his personal life allows him to play well for Charlton but not get a chance with us.

Oh yeh, course he must be homesick... yawn

Never one to allow the facts to get in the way of good moan at Blackie eh Fiery.

Its been said many times that the reason Reid went on loan at Charlton in the first place was because of personal issues. He had some family problems and it was difficult for him to settle in Sheffield.

well done for highlighting the players that haven't performed (but in all but Evans case the rest have moved on) For Cotterill see Halford, for Hendrie see Monty, for Howard see Williamson, for Quinn see Cresswell, for Sharp see Camara. For Evans, watch him this season.

Blackwell continues with the likes of not only Taylor and France, but Britton, Morgan, Simmonsen, Cresswell, Ward, Evans, Hendo et al.

But hey, carry on...

Whos paid his wages whilst he's been with the Blades - Social Security?

He had some family problems, so moving down closer to home was thought to have been a big help.

Woah woah woah..... have the details of why he left been confirmed? Is it because "evil McCabe and incompetant Blackwell" have decided that as a winger he's no good to the club so let's re-sign Ian Hamilton OR... has Reid just decided that he can't settle in the North and would prefer a move back down South for personal reasons?

The fact that Reid has played a part in pre-season so far seems to inidicate that he was in Blackwell's plans. If it comes out that Reid was forced out by United then fair play I'll agree with all of you that it seems like a ridiculous decision to release a player when the squad is so small. But let the facts come out FFS!!!

It's not like it's just Reid is it really?

France?
Taylor?

Or the players he doesn't sign who don't play like Little.

Morning Swiss,

Back with the Pro Blackwell crew I see!
I only say as I see
Can't remember when Blackwell ever unearthed a gem signing like Charlie Adams or Graham Dorrans!

For every Adam and Dorrans, there's hundreds of signings each season in the Championship that don't work out.

You could argue that Blackwell brought Kyle I and II through, Lennon and Killa at his time at Leeds. Not saying he is totally responsible but then again, neither is he totally responsible when a signing doesn't work out or a player fails to deliver.

I don't think it's so much Reid, but the trend in which players come and go to us. Someone mentioned Wardy... Well not exactly a good relationship there is there. Players used to like him when he was a number 2. He needs to go back to being that guy

Yeah... remeber when Jamie Ward just fell out of the sky and landed at the Lane?

Yes. It was a bad fall, he got injured, and he missed the next 10 games...

Morning Fiery,

As I said the other day, not exactly pro Blackwell, just not going to use every stick to beat him with. I think if thats saying as you see it, you need to remove the blinkers or at the very least allow them to see past just the Blackwell out horizon.

Even during last season I wasn't blaming Blackwell for things out of his control - like Injuries or things like Reid's family/ personal issues.

As for Blackie unearthing gems, thats a very tinted view. Weren't the Kyles Gems? Wasn't Jamie Ward a Gem? Hmmm....

On the subject of Adams, I work with a Rangers fan. Adams was a chubby, slow winger at Rangers, but then he went to Blackpool and was rediscovered because he plays in the middle doesn't he? He was hardly unearthed, more found in the loft.

Kyle Naughton was on loan to Gretna when Blackwell 1st came to the club. When he came back Blackwell admitted he had a gem but still however signed sun ji and Halford. he came to play again when short of numbers
Kyle Walker - He was so highly thought of by Blackwell that he spent the 1st half of the play off season at Northampton and came back to play because we were struggling for numbers.

To say Blackwell unearthed these 'gems' is a fucking joke quite frankly

Ah my apologies, so putting the Kyles out on loan wasn't for 1st team experience then? Give me a break

Sun Ji and Halford were established players and the fact that Kyle Naughton kept them both out shows the gamble that was taken when we were short on numbers was worth it.

I didn't say that, I said 'it could be argued that......'. Is Wenger credited with unearthing every young player that comes through, usually yes but how many people are fully aware of the circumstances leading to those kids being played ?

Merely pointing out that you can't hold a manager solely responsible for a signing that goes wrong for the same reasons you give him no credit for both Kyles.

I'm confused, are you saying we pay Waltons wages while he is on loan, yet when Reid was on loan we also picked that tab?

Ref the Kyles, Blackwell played them as he had no choice, as I've posted many times he has little regard for the academy due to his issues with Ron Reid.
The academy tell them that certain players are good enough but Blackwell is quite pig headed about it and won't pick them.
He was backed into a corner with the Kyles due to the injury crisis.

Loan deals - Whats confusing Fiery? Each Loan deal is done differently, meaning that negotiations take place on % of wages paid by each club, recall clauses, fees paid, 1st refusal at the end of the loan etc

As for Blackie and the academy. Blackies the team manager, doesn't mean that he's pig headed if he doesn't pick players from the academy, it may just mean that he thinks he can get a better player elsewhere. Personally i'd prefer us to get more academy players coming through but then again if they came through, people on here would be overly critical of young lads making mistakes and slaughter them. Simon Walton is a perfect example of an academy (not our academy) player thats been slated/ written off... yet he's only 22!!!

Blackie and other managers have been backed into corners over injuries elsewhere, it generally means that the pressure is off a young lad coming in. It still doesn't get away from the fact that the manager decided to blood a youngster instead of going in for a loanee.

One of Blackwell's 1st comments before the play off season was In June saying he didn't need to sign a right back because he had Kyle Naughton and another one coming through. You can look it up in the archives on www.sufc.co.uk. 1 week later he signed both Sun Ji and Halford on the same day. Remind me how many games Sunji played? Those wages we played Sun Ji could have been used in a better position in that season. We signed Ryan France to play right back. How many games did he play? We signed a number of right backs last season, connolly etc; and France could not get a game. It's not like he would have been gambling on a number of rookies, just one and at right back. He is wasteful and when they fall foul of him they don't get a look in.... I want to give him a chance this season but he does need to look at his man management and general arrogance to why he ignores his academy. Lawton could have had more games at the end of the season. What harm would it have done

What were Blackwell's issues with Ron Reid? I've seen them mentioned but never read anything to clarify what they were? Maybe they were justified?
Regarding Naughton, Blackwell played him in a lot of the pre-season matches that year and he wasn't forced into doing that by injury problems.
Also, I remember being surprised when Walker got the nod ahead of other more experienced players, so again it wasn't a case of Blackwell having no other options.

Really? I mean REALLY??

Can you name these young lads that have been "slaughtered" on coming into the team?

If anything I think it is exactly the opposite. A kid coming through the ranks has always had far more leeway than players bought in from outside and I'm thinking right back to Jones, Birchy, Badger and Woody here. Even Len (who has been known to be a tad critical) is full of praise for the Kyles.
