Bodmin Town maybe?Anyone know who we're playing here? I don't recognise the opposition. Pre-season friendly, presumably.

The STD code on the advertisement board in the background shows ‘01205’, which is for the Boston area
Bodmin Town maybe?
Clue is on the STD code on advertising board 01208 which is for Bodmin.I think Bodmin too, phone code is 01208. Played them in three successive seasons -2000,2001 and 2002 when Midas were shirt sponsors.
These are great photos, redolent of a bygone era.A few pics taken of and in Joseph Elliot's factory (previously Ellins), Sylvester St, March 1984.View attachment 77656

My great-gran worked at Sylvester works in the 20s, I've got a picture of her and all the other girls outside the works. Doesn't look like it had changed much from then to 1984!A few pics taken of and in Joseph Elliot's factory (previously Ellins), Sylvester St, March 1984.View attachment 77656

Think I'll phone them and get a quote. And the 72707 number is still valid for the Wildish building company in Bodmin. They offer complete project management solutions, new builds, renovations and are NFB and NHBC registered.
I bet they never thought when they had the advertising board at Bodmin Town in 2000 that they’d be reaping the benefit 20 years later in the middle of a Covid 19 lockdown.
Would you like to share the photo? It would dove tail nicely with Andingman's photos and be extremely interesting to every one else. Thank you, excellent photo, looks as though it was taken in the 'court yard' area show on Andingman's photos.View attachment 77668
Thomas Ellin's in 1923. We'd not known my great-gran had worked there until this photo was included in a historic Sheffield section of the Star and someone in the family recognised her.
I don’t suppose you’ve got any of the back of the smaller two storey building to the right of the main factory?A few pics taken of and in Joseph Elliot's factory (previously Ellins), Sylvester St, March 1984.View attachment 77656

I don't think so, well not intentionally anyway,I don’t suppose you’ve got any of the back of the smaller two storey building to the right of the main factory?
I don't think so, well not intentionally anyway, but I'm still working through my old files, si I'll keep looking.
Yep....I was a regular.....do you remember Uncle Les was the club leader?Did anyone else on here go to The ABC Minors (Kids' cinema club) on Saturday mornings? I think it was 5 or 10p to watch cartoons and kids films produced by The Children's Film Foundation.

I was in BLLT for the match. I rarely go there.First match .
Yep....I was a regular.....do you remember Uncle Les was the club leader?
We are the boys and girls well known as minors of the ABC,
And every Saturday we line up to see the films we like to shout aloud with glee,
We like to laugh and have a singsong, such a happy crowd are we,
We’re all friends together, we’re minor of the...A B C
How fucking sad is that![]()
Can't stand newcomers! Dare I ask how we went on that match? I haven't noticed before, but on that photo it looks like Peter Kay dressed up as Fatty Foulkes.First match .
Nowadays it'd be called ABC Kidz, show films about Youtubers and have Stormzy do the theme song.
Yes you may ask .Can't stand newcomers! Dare I ask how we went on that match? I haven't noticed before, but on that photo it looks like Peter Kay dressed up as Fatty Foulkes.
If the walkway went under what is now Argos it used to be the entrance to what was Cockaynes basement. Also down the walkway was a Halifax branch, where I took out my first bank account. It was with the assistance of a girl who worked there and I was seeing at the time,1958/9, Sad point to this story is she is no longer with us. Learned that whilst speaking to her cousin a couple of years ago.At the side of the ABC was a walkway where people used to queue for the cinema. It also led to a lift to the car park. I came down in the lift with my mate with a stranger. He rattled off “lift” jokes like a machine gun. At the bottom he got out and left us creased up with laughter. My mate said “Do you know who that was?.....Bobby Knutt”
