Centre half from Brighton, currently on loan at Leeds in the Championship, voted Championship young player of the year. Most interceptions in the division this year. 22 years old.

Worth a punt?
 

I’ve not watched him much personally but my Leeds mates all rave about him. Liverpool and Arsenal have been linked.

Any centre half we sign will have to be Champions League standard to displace John Egan.
 
Surely anyone we look at from now on is going to be valued at £20m plus though. How do we sign a player that improves our current first choice XI for less than £20m?

Yes to walk into our starting line up I think your £20m plus. But Ben White is £20m + to sit on the bench.
 
admittedly i havent watched him much this season, but he sounds an absolutely perfect long-term replacement for Basham... he has also just handed in a transfer request, i couldve seen this kind of £20m transfer happening pre-covid, but unfortunately probably not anymore

They payed £24m-ish for Webster and by all accounts this lad is much better. He'll either be at Brighton or a top 6 team if he's not on loan at Leeds again
 
Potter said he wants him in the Brighton team next season
 
Leeds also need to replace him, wonder if Mings is available? Banter

Was talking to a Leeds fan other day (before they got promoted). He said the first bit of business they need to do "if they go up" is to sign this lad permanently.

He is absolutely perfect for a 3 at the back system, and probably the perfect Basham replacement.

However he will cost £30mil+ if he goes anywhere this season, and I suspect bigger clubs than us or Leeds will be sniffing.
Brighton will sell a defender though, as they have 4 or 5 that would consider themselves first teamers.

Might be a good time to have a pop at getting in Shaun Duffy if we want some real competition for Egan. CB partners for ROI.
But I can see him going to somewhere where he's guaranteed a start
 
Why would Brighton sell this kid to a rival?
unless Leeds have funds to shell out £30m I can’t see Brighton taking it. White may have been good in the Champ, but so was Mings and he’s been proven yet again to be out of his depth week in week out in the Premier.

Need Leeds to be struggling to get any of their loans back. We don’t want them challenging us for too Yorkshire side
 
Is there not a purchase option in the agreement with Leeds? Either way, Potter is going to consider us competition next season so you might say he'd be...potty...to sell to us.

Totally agree. Plus we have to remember we'll likely sell these guys for more than what we paid. That's the markup of having some magical CWAK dust sprinkled all over you.

I actually see a lot of similarities between the current Leeds squad and Villa's that got them up last year - some good players, a number unlikely able to perform at Prem level and a heavy reliance on loans. Let's hope they blow a fortune and then go down like Vila as well :)

We’d have said the same about our players too. Other than white their 11 was mostly their own or already purchased from their parent clubs.

I can see a top 10 Finish as they will have more than enough attacking intent to win games.
 
Absolutely no chance. He’ll either stay at brighton or go to Leeds.
There’s no reason he’d choose us over Leeds, they’ll be able to pay him just as much as us, and he’s a fan favourite there

Happy to stake a friendly pre-match pint on them finishing bottom half next season if you like :-)

Being based up there you may well see more of them than I do but I'm not convinced that any of their keepers are good enough and I would swap and one of their defenders (esp Cooper) or left sided players for Utd's. They're already committed to paying £35m+ for Costa and Augustin and feel they'll need to splash a whole lot more cash to make themselves competitive at Prem level.

I’ll take you up on that :)

Though I agree the keeper looks an issue - seems to be playing on the 18 yard box for no real reason with alarming regularity.

Think they are a defender short without white for sure, but I don’t think it will be a Norwich / villa Like inability To defend by any stretch. Neither of those sides could defend in the championship. Think Leeds have only conceded something like 35 goals this season. We conceded 41!? I think, so similarly solid at the back.

Though cooper has been really good / solid for much of his time there by all accounts. Think he’s just not been great against us and seemed to melt down in the final few games of last season with alarming regularity.
 
Would be great in our back 3 but well out of our reach I'd imagine. Heard Brighton looking for around 30-40m!

He'd be the absolute perfect long term Bash replacement but we've no chance unfortunately. He'll either go back to Brighton as a certain starter or Leeds will break the bank to sign him.

He would yes 100%. I questioned that signing at the beginning of the season as he was Jansson's replacement but credit to Bielsa and to the player himself for taking on board what he's been taught. Easily the best centre half in the championship this season. Brighton now have a gem of a defender to use or sell for huge sum
