I delved down to the depths of hell to find these.

Marcel Seip
Toni Kallio
Kingsley James
Aymen Tahar
Matthew Spring
John Halls
Evan Horwood
Phil Barnes
Tommy Johnson
Carl Robinson
Grant Smith
Richard Edgehill
Lewis Killeen
Andy Smith
James Thomas
Andy Woodward
Mark Ward

I haven't made these people up, they all actually played first team football for Sheffield United.

In fairness to some of those though, they were academy players that just weren’t good enough. That happens all the time and is probably slightly harsh to put them in something like this.

His time here was a shambles but not because he couldn't play football.

5 minutes under Blackwell.
A number of games under a rather naive Gary Speed.
A number under a clown of a caretaker.
Ralph Wiggum then took over and ditched all our talented players (including LB) in exchange for Doyle, Collins, Riise and Bent. Thanks for that, Ralph...

He just played a very specific role that didn't exist in our imploding club, except for a fleeting moment under Speed.
I'd forgotten about John Carver! I've tried to forget about that whole season to be honest...

The kid I'm thinking of was a young lad who we got from Man U in the 80's and he played a number of games, he looked like he could make a promising player, but we never found out. He had a lot of dark, really curly hair. Maybe that wasn't "Patterson", I've got "McDowell" in my head now for some reason. I know, nothing like "Patterson", but it will come to me eventually! Unless you tell me first? 🤔
Marc Dempsey

Apologies if he's been mentioned, but Brian Marwood was absolute shite for United. We paid a fair bit of money for him at the time as well (for us anyway).

Special mention to Ian Hamilton and Paul Thirlwell who I fucking hated at the time. Both shocking players. Ashley Sestanovich was crap as well.

My memory is shit these days - but didn't Peter Withe get a couple at Elland Road (one a header)that got us the points - surely a get out of Jail card?
Mick Speight seemed to cop a lot of abuse
Chris Guthrie an absolute carthorse
the Smith brothers ( I think they played together at the same time) - whichever one played upfront couldn't hit a barn door with a banjo

Is that apart from the goals he scored? I don’t remember him being bad actually.

I think he was what we needed at that time. He did seem to be something of a scapegoat, it was even alluded to in an episode of United IIRC

A few for the old uns don’t think been mentioned Peter Dornan and his mate Steve McKee ,Les fuckin Tibbett who cost £10000 a lot of money back in the day. Come in number 7 Jon Flood anyone remember Steve Patterson big things were expected another Ebrall and not forgetting old potter s picture palace himself Mark I’ve come from Man U Dempsey

I mentioned McKee earlier. Patterson never played, in fact the injury meant he had to retire.
You didn't mention Peter Hetherston, who was to be the next great from Scotland. Hit the post about 5 times and that was it.
And what about Alan Whittle, appeared in the pre-season photo and then failed the medical, better than Ebrell that.

See my post earlier about crocks

Paul played up front, his brother,Brian, seemed a prospect, then got his career cut short through injury.

There are some players that I’m amazed to read on this thread. Martin Smith was perhaps the only player worth watching in Heath’s spell as manager. Academy grads like Evan Horwood, who had barely 10 minutes in a United shirt? Shouldn’t even be mentioned. John Ebbrell looked excellent in that first half vs Reading – precisely the type of player we’d been missing since we let Cowans go the previous summer, made the midfield tick and I think set up the only goal that half. It was a huge and unfortunate blow for him to get injured when he did. Saying Ebbrell was “utterly shit” is like saying “Paul Coutts offered fuck all for us when recovering from that broken leg”.

Centre half, very quick Brian.
Young McGeady was like lightning, took over from Woody but his final cross just not there. Injured then went to Canada for a while.
Aiden McGeady,s dad.

Probably all wrong, that.

Whitehurst. Offered nowt as a footballer and the only thing anyone remembers about him is threatening to chin Neil Ruddock.
Really unfair, he was brought in for about £40k for our promotion push with Paul Wood. Both contributed in their own ways and Billy’s experience really helped. I remember the away game at stoke where he intimidated their central defenders all game and when he got subbed you could see them relax appreciably, he softened them up and he did this to other defences too.
From what Bassett and others said he also galvanised the dressing room and helped toughen the younger players up.
I also seem to remember a home game v qpr New Year’s Day when we won 1-0 and due to an injury he played centre half.
Look he was no world beater but imo unfair to add him in this post.

I know it's not ten years. But Billy Paynter was awful. How he scored as many goals over his career amazed me.

no it’s Steve Patterson
The one in the photo is Steve Patterson - I'm not disputing that. I said I couldn't remember him. The one I was trying to think of was Mark Dempsey. Pictured below.

He played for us when he was a young lad. He was another one of those that came from Man U with the promise of being a great future player but he never went on to really live up to his billing. Coach now at Man U apparently.
