Ive lived in Spain for 11 years , not read a British paper in that timeAre we? Where’s this assertion come from, the daily mail?

We rank 18th in healthcare. Italy are ranked 2nd.The best thing to do is listen to the government and in particular to what their scientists and medical officers say. We've probably got the best people in the world for this, and the NHS is probably ideal compared to other countries, to deal with it.
Ignore whats going on in other countries, it seems a lot are panicing and over reacting.
That's not exactly telling you what you should do, and easy to ignore. Besides which, whether it's a bit of flu or the coronavirus, the recommendations advised apply to both. That it’s only a bit of flu probably
The issue is though, this could easily be going for the rest of the year. In reality, there's only around 600 confirmed cases at the moment, roughly 0.001% of the population. Granted, that figure will likely be around 2,000 by this time next week and maybe more. But in 2 weeks we'll probably be in a far worse position than right now in terms of cases, deaths, NHS run ragged etc. If it does extend to 6 months or longer then what do we do?I’ve voted for 2 week postponement.....then play as normal...
People who say we need to protect our 85 year olds who are currently ill in hospital are being politically correct.
Of course no one wants their elderly parents are grand parents to die prematurely when they might have had another 5 or 10 years.
Even if those years are of poor quality with little dignity...it’s natural to have a pro life attitude at any cost.
Death is personal and an emotive subject....people struggle to think of the bigger picture.
However if we bring the country to a stand still with a total lock down.....the implications are potentially much much worse.
There is an argument to carry on as normal....most people will get the flu and be unwell for a few days....but almost everyone will live
Many of the very elderly with health problems will likely die but that might be the better option compared to the alternatives.
Just think we need to think carefully. We take action to solve a problem but then it could create another problem that’s much worse.
PS: Actually I agree with Cassius above......”other”.....let the experts armed with information decide.
Seems short notice. They may decide to go ahead with this week and then suspend it.Can only assume (dangerous I know) that this mornings emergency meeting will be to decide what’s happening with the rest of the season. Cannot for the life of me imagine this weekends games will go ahead now.
Read somewhere that the meeting is 10.30What time is the premier league meeting this morning ?
The issue is health versus money. End the season now.The issue is though, this could easily be going for the rest of the year. If we postpone due to risk then we could very well end the season here.
Stopping mass gatherings won't stop it, it'll delay it. Previous major disease outbreaks throughout history weren't spread just by mass public events. A vaccine is likely at least 12 months away, less than that and it will have been rushed through and not had time to be proven safe & effective. The issue is health versus money. End the season now.
Read somewhere that the meeting is 10.30
"We are considering banning major public events like sporting fixtures," said Johnson.
"The scientific advice is this has little effect on the spread - but it does place a burden on other public services."
Little effect on the spread but sod it we will stop living altogether.
I can see Norwich, Villa and Bournmouth self-isolating for the next 18 months at least.
I can't think of a single reason not to do this, assuming football has to end in the near future. Let teams carry over the points they currently have into next season, so if you have 50 points, you start with 50 points. That way, all the clubs who have done well, will still have an advantage, and the likes of Norwich will still start bottom, etc.
A 2 season season, if you like.
My granddaughter's school in Villamartin has closed for five weeks from today. Not sure how she is going to prepare for her A levels in two months time. Here in Spain, there are all sorts of stories about hospitals being overrun, running out of supplies and healthy nurses etc. Apparently there are far more cases/deaths than are being reported because of the expense of the test.
Madrid is the worst affected so letting 2,500 atletico fans into Anfield was an unbelievable decision- all football including non-league is off here now.
I much prefer the quote: 'football is the most important unimportant thing' than Bill Shankley's. Anything we can do to slow down the virus is a good idea- play the league in July if needs be.
