What this has shown to me is a complete polarisation of views, not unlike Brexit, where people seem unable to show empathy or understanding for opposing ideas or thoughts on the subject. Stats are lies, the government's lying, nanny state, can I get my ST money back, the old and infirm dying is a price worth paying, all points raised at some point in this thread. I'm definitely no expert but as annoyed I am that the season as an attending fan might be over, I see no reason to doubt the advice being given and risk spreading the virus unintentionally to someone that could die from it. It's a small price to pay.
You can add to that the selfish people nicking hand sanitizer from hospitals.

Hamburg Blade I know you have strongly held views on this. But, whenever I see the sort of quotes you attribute to The Times, I read it differently. I read.....
the congregation of large crowds at outdoor events is not dangerous AT THE MOMENT, but in such a volatile set of circumstances, that might change at any moment.

Please tell me you get that, even if you don't agree with it. If everyone in the population has CoronaVirus except you, tell me you won't be dragging that quote out then. It used to be 1 case in 7.5 Billion people. That's changed......

Of course, the advice as per The Times is correct now. And football continues. If that advice changes, and it is dangerous, then football will stop.
I don't know that I have strongly held views on this, I'm just giving my views as I see it, based on the information that's coming in and the stats which are changing all the time.
I don't see how you're reading it differently, they haven't said "now" or given a caveat on the statement (as far as I know, this is clearly 2nd hand as it's through a journalist). Clearly any situation can change, but I can see that standing in the open air near people is not as risky as interacting with people inside, naturally the more the virus spreads the more likely contagion will be, but given the situation it will always be LESS risky than other situations.

I suspected at the beginning that the government would begin with a series of measures that didn't really make much sense but would reassure the public that they were acting, perhaps combined with getting the message across that this is serious. Targeting football seems to be to be exactly that. It's an easy, visible act. That's how I see it and that's what I object to. For example, they haven't even banned travel to and from Italy. Nor have they banned going to the pictures, or brought in emergency hygiene laws.

Your comment about everyone having the virus is a bit over dramatic, but it would appear that the expectation is that almost everyone will get it at some point or other, at least until they have a vaccine, so all we are talking about is slowing the spread and it's the nasty football hooligans who are in the government's sights again.

What’s the situation with health care for non EU members? Or are you a Spanish citizen? If they have to ration ventilators as they appear to be doing in Italy, will they take a ‘Spanish first’ approach?
im a resident and on full health cover after working here for years
but just as likely to get it as anyone

There probably is a low risk of contracting it in the stands, there'll be a much higher risk of contracting it on the concourse at half time, or in the pisser.

More and more sporting events are being postponed.

I think the best solution might be to cancel the Euros in the Summer....it looks like some of the playoff matches have already been postponed
and extend the seasons to 30 June...this is the date some player contracts end or extend the season to 30 July.

We can suspend the season....totally shut down for 2 weeks and see what happens.
If things get worse...,then might need to consIder playing behind closed doors.

If things stay bad for several months..then can only see the season being cancelled....no promotions or relegations.
The question regards European places is that the PL has the discretion to put any team it wants into it.
So suspect it will promote teams based on the current position.
We are lying 7th so suspect we’ll be put forward to the Europa Cup next season....however even UEFA competitions might be cancelled next season.

Given everyone’s looking at online solutions, how about to complete the season all twenty managers are thrown into an online game of Football Manager with the squads and tables as they are today.

The public are able to watch in real time as ahead of a game Wilder slowly moves the cursor to alter the formation to 4-4-2, before Alan Knill slaps his hand to stop it. Meanwhile, Spurs fans look on in horror as Mourinho issues Ndombole a fine for no reason whatsoever.

STFU.

Subbuteo!!!! no new fangled games for virgins.

Yes, no doubt. As I say, I just worry that the government will hide behind this action and not take more drastic action that may affect more people and be less popular.

It's just a matter of time now that the season is suspended.

Still it's not all doom and gloom. Summer football. Blades packing out pub gardens watching Chris wilder and co attempt champions league qualification for those of us who are not bed ridden by then.

Then the season starts again in August. No need for pre-season.

Agree.....instead of watching the Euros over the Summer.....we can have our domestic game over the Summer.
Lets hope theres no heatwave...with 30 degree temperatures....players will be knackered before kicking a ball.
I‘d rather freeze the season and continue it whenever instead of playing behind closed doors.
Also it would seem weird if the season was declared null and void...it would be a total disaster for Leeds...suppose that’s the only consolation.

As I said on the other thread, if football can be played in the summer, surely it's fairer for that to be the Euros? Domestic football fans haven't committed to spend hundreds, if not thousands on travel and accommodation.

Finish the season after the Euros and allow the 2020/21 season to continue into the summer of 2021.

So, do you think all football should be suspended, played behind closed doors or continue as normal?

I personally think matches should be played behind closed doors in high risk areas with stadiums in other areas banning away fans from high risk areas. Matches where there's suspected cases on one or both teams should be postponed.

Medium risk areas should be behind closed doors. Low risk areas carrying on as normal with maybe a ban on high risk groups attending (even though that would be very difficult to monitor).

From the briefing the CMO, CSO, and PM are currently giving, it’s basically a No to suggesting mass events be cancelled at this stage, but it will be inevitable to time this appropriately in the future as we move into different phases of this.

Yep postpone the lot for me, I've waited 45 years for a season like this and a chance of playing in Europe, but I couldn't give a toss about that if any of the 15 or 20 family members that are regulars at the lane catch it there.

We have to follow what other countries are doing, in my opinion of course, so don't shoot me down bitches

Yes they have , so far this season I’ve committed a lot of money following the Blades home and away just like last season and the season and before .... the Euros can fuck off
