If there’s a plus from all this coronavirus business then surely it’s got to be that the Prince is making a fortune?!

Of course there's a possibility that pubs, bars, restaurants may have to close. We're trying to fend off a Pandemic. Although, I'm an old fella & I'll be honest, I couldn't work out whether you were being serious in that post.

My point is, until the government decide all public places are off limits then it wouldn’t be selfish to carry on as normal and still go to the pub.

It’s quite possible football stadiums with 30k+ visitors could be closed, but pubs with a few hundred maximum capacity are allowed to stay open in the short term.

But if there are 40k pubs in the UK with just 50-100 customers each day, surely it makes more sense to close down the pubs

Who's going to compensate these businesses? Small, independent businesses can't take a hit like that. They will legally still have to pay their employees and all fixed costs will have to be paid. If there is a disporportionate ruling against pubs and restaurants compared to other types of businesses, there could be law suits against the government. But rolling it out across the board could tank the economy, which is likely to cause far more deaths.

Thank fuck we've got Boris in charge then. It's always reassuring when the PM obviously knows what he is doing.

Not my area of expertise. What British Law do you think a small, independent business could use to take the Government to court under these circumstances?
My take on it is ..... the Government will be (correctly in my opinion) relying on probability & mathematical models to check what measures are needed when to balance a wide range of issues across Society & the Economy.
You don't want all small, independent businesses open & thriving. But, all their customers dead.
You don't want every small, independent business going under, never to return. But everyone healthy.
Tough calls.

No doubt it's a tough call, but on the basis that the fatalities are mainly over 80s with pre-existing medical conditions, even allowing the virus to spread isn't going to kill off enough customers to affect the economy. On the other hand, the fall-out from thousands of businesses going bust, the debts, the lay offs, the personal debts and inevitable suicides, a possible recession and its knock on effects, doesn't seem to be the responsible thing to do.
I'm not a legal expert, but I've little doubt that someone who has lost everything having ploughed years of his life and savings in to a business which the government wipes out with a measure that isn't consistent across the country would have a go at suing for compensation.
What is more likely is that the government has to act to contain the panic from a remarkably lilly livered public, because that in itself could start to affect the economy. As I say, I hope we're not going to see measures that don't really have much chance of doing anything but show that the government is "taking action".

We can hope he is listening to some really good advisers and isn't tempted to make any decisions himself!

As I've posted before, I don't buy this "kill the over 80s" argument. In Italy, murderers & rapists are escaping from prison and able to walk the streets ... because of the strain placed on society & the economy by CoronaVirus. Italy. Many British people know it well. Go there on holiday. I was there last year watching Dean Henderson let howlers in for England U21. Italy. Got a few more concerns than over 80s dying. But, I take your point that we hope it doesn't get to that. And must take decisions to make sure it doesn't. I'll not be happy when my Tax Bill goes up to pay compensation to someone who owns a shit fake Irish pub on West St which gets closed down to keep your Grandmother alive.....

As much as I dislike Johnson and think he’s generally speaking an utter bumbling disaster, the Government’s Chief Medical Officer and Chief Scientific Officer are both excellent individuals and to Johnson’s credit he’s got both front and centre to the Government’s response.

I was there last year too, in Süd Tirrol. Lovely place. It's strange that under the surface they seem to have such problems running a first world country. I think what may be happening there is what I mentioned, that it's the panic rather than the actual deaths or virus that's causing the problem. The number of deaths they've had - even if it was young professionals - is not enough to affect the smooth running of society.

The West Ham game should be off this weekend then seeing as Arsenal played them on Saturday.

In fact Arsenal played Portsmouth after the Olympiakos game and Portsmouth have since played Peterborough and Fleetwood. Right mess.

It depends with whom Marinakis came into contact during the match at Arsenal. Did he meet the Arsenal team, or was it just hospitality staff and the like? We know he definitely met with the Forest players after their match against Millwall on Friday, so I assume their whole squad will have to self-isolate.

Already it’s becoming less a question of playing games behind closed doors and more a question of whether games are going to be played at all.

I might be wrong but they are self-isolating because they were in close contact with someone actually confirmed to have the virus (Olympiakos Chairman).

It shouldn’t affect the other clubs?

Let's look at a worse case scenario of the EPL season being finished early, although I can't see that happening.
Would they not use a 'Pools Panel' to assess the games to be played and award results and points based on the Panels assessment?
Obviously it would be a complete lottery and we would have to hope that Garth Crooks and Mark Lawernson wasn't on the panel!
That said, I'm sure that they'd find a way to ensure ManUre, Spurs and Arsenal all finished in the European places!
