Postpone, play behind closed doors or carry on?

They are talking about it now on Talksport.

They are saying playing in an empty stadium will cause problems because people will watch the matches in pubs.
They are suggesting the season is temporarily suspended and if the virus continues for many weeks....then end the season and maybe play a mini play-off league regards which teams are relegated and qualify for the Champions/ Europa league.

Its a tricky situation.....regards getting the balance right between carrying on to a certain degree and having military style lock downs.
So far everyone who has died in the UK have been elderly with previous health issues.
How do you protect the vulnerable? Ban over 70’s from leaving the house? Make sure all visitors to the elderly wear face masks and use hand gels?

Apparently Gary Neville has suggesting we freeze the season and continue once it’s under control, which hopefully might only be 2 or 3 weeks
but what if it takes months? PS I go on holiday to Mexico via Paris in 11 days....I’m wondering if my flight will go ahead?

Unfortunately this is another example of someone with a little knowledge not understanding what the experts are saying. The Chief Medical and Scientific Officers have said that the key to dealing with this is picking the right moment to take the delay actions to try to keep the spike in new cases as low as possible, hence the need to try and push this out towards the Summer months to take pressure off the NHS.

If and when we hit epidemic phase CMO advises we could be looking at a 9 week period at its worst. That means delaying the football season for a few weeks becomes a non option if we get to this scenario. The hysteria around we should be doing what Italy has done continues to grow despite the best endeavours of those who know what they are talking about being at pains to point out that we are being guided by the science.

6507 People in Britain killed themselves in 2018, that's nearly 18 a day.

The "Corona Virus" has so far killed 2 people in Britain.

I wish people would take stock of what they are panicking about.

It’s killed 168 people in Italy today. I wish people would take stock of the severity of what is happening.

again
theres been 10000 cases in italy 650 have died
theres been 7500 in korea 65 have died, ten times more died in italy than in korea
Italy has a massively larger over 70 age group
its an ideal area for this virus
old vulnerable people in a country with private health

life expectancy in north korea is 71
in italy its 85 so they have the numbers of the most vulnerable group to die

I don't think that private health care has much influence on the mortality rates in Italy. Italy has a much higher number of Critical Care beds than we do in the UK and generally if people with Covid-19 are sick they need ventilation. They are struggling to cope with the number of patients who need ventilation.

again added the life expectancy numbers after first posting
korea is 71 italy 85
so italy has the groups that are succumbing to it

the average age of those who have died is 81

all those off the dolmio add where the 80 year olds are enjoying being 80 plus are the ones getting the virus

If anyone wants to optimise their immune response to viral infection they should research the fat soluble vitamins
A (clinically proven to reduce morbidity and mortality in viral infections)
and Vitamin D(D3 the sunshine vitamin).
Loads of peer reviewed studies are at your fingertips.

I wrote my first computer code in 1975. And bought my first hand held computer in 1986. This digital age. Me & my muckers invented it. We're good thanks......
I said a very similar thing last week. I don’t write code but I’ve been using computers since before the internet

It's a little known fact that Apollo XI landed on the Moon in 1969 - with absolutely no calculations being done beforehand. They just pointed it towards the Moon, counted to 10 and whoooosh. They'd have liked to have calculated trajectory & speed - but I don't think you have the facilities to do that Big Man

If games are to be behind closed doors as someone says stop them being shown in pubs, and just make them "free to air" so most can watch them. The worrying thing is just how it's managed to explode in Italy irrespective of the age of population, I don't want to see the season just being stopped.

Saying today all La Liga games to be played behind locked doors and they don't think Seria A will resume this season, then we have Trump telling Americans don't worry it'll go away (prick).

Anthony R Mawson appears to have form.

There’s literally zero correlation mate ?

So shall we only take a deadly virus seriously when it kills a certain amount of people ?

How many would you suggest 5 thousand ? 10 thousand ?
This, if the mortality rate in Italy is now 5-6% basic maths applied to a significant percentage of the population getting infected in the UK would result in a mortality rate unseen since the war. I’m no snowflake but science and probability would suggest that we take this very seriously. I heard a local couple who were married in Milan at the weekend returned to work on Monday - fucking irresponsible and should be subject to legal constraint. I know that people need salaries etc but it is the job of government to deal with that as they are in Italy.

If needed postpone games until safer and delay season finish.

Do same abroad and cancel Euros and play next summer.

New season could start a little later with some mid week league games replacing a scrapped league cup. This allows next season to finish on time.

Job done.

Spot on but you know how angry that will make many of the selfish all about my football brigade.

I think the idea is that people don’t be stupid and selfish cunts, and self isolate rather than prioritise watching a football game.

When has anyone suggest pubs are closed? Surely it’s not being selfish if the government don’t put the country on lock down?

Someone I work with came back from Singapore and was told to work from home for 2 weeks as a result.

Not Italy i know but they've been out here there and everywhere in that time apart from work.

You'd think you'd at least rein it in a little and be a bit sensible.

Of course there's a possibility that pubs, bars, restaurants may have to close. We're trying to fend off a Pandemic. Although, I'm an old fella & I'll be honest, I couldn't work out whether you were being serious in that post.

What point are you trying to make? Rather than suggest ‘if anyone wants to optimise their immune response to viral infection they should research the fat soluble vitamins’ why not summarise what you think people should be doing?

If you’re saying that a deficiency in A and D3 can lead to a weaker immune system, then I agree. I take supplements because I’ve got low A (according to blood tests) as have most people who live in England (during winter months).

It's not like all people are getting tested though, since it's just like an ordinary cold for most(?) people.

So the mortality rate is likey well below that figure.

Expert on disease control on the Radio this morning said

“if sports events do have to take place behind closed doors it shouldn’t be seen as a major issue and it wouldn’t be for ever, just the next 6 or 9 months or so”

They just don’t get it, that would be catastrophic,
At least the attendance at the sty wouldn't suffer

“According to most of the authors, more randomized controlled trials with effective, large populations are needed to explore the preventive effect of vitamin D supplementation on viral influenza infections”.
