6507 People in Britain killed themselves in 2018, that's nearly 18 a day.

The "Corona Virus" has so far killed 2 people in Britain.

I wish people would take stock of what they are panicking about.

There’s literally zero correlation mate ?

So shall we only take a deadly virus seriously when it kills a certain amount of people ?

How many would you suggest 5 thousand ? 10 thousand ?

Totally different , it’s their choice , I pretty sure every one is panicking just before they are about die!

I suppose it’s true that when people take their own life’s it’s their own choice but a very flippant way of putting it my friend
The question is is it their own rationale or irrational choice?
People don’t choose to have mental health problems no matter how they get there they do not choose it

Perhaps not my finest choice of words but my comments were born out of disbelief in a posters comments about this horrific infection which is going to change everybody’s life for the foreseeable future

"It's just like Flu, and loads die from Flu every year"

Nope. We all have some immunity from Flu. We've had it, or similar, in the past. We've had the jabs. Sure some people still get it. And some will die. But, the immunity means not everyone gets it & it spreads slowly.
But, scientific fact, no one has immunity against CoronaVirus. It spreads quickly.
If 50 people get on a coach. And one has Flu. Most of the other 49 have immunity. Say another two get it.
If 50 people get on a coach. And one has CoronaVirus. None of the other 49 have immunity. And all 49 have a very real chance of catching it.
Say the death rate is 1%. 1% of 50 is much bigger than 1% of three. That's how Epidemics work. They spread quickly. And to many, many more people.
Then the Health Service can't cope. People are being treated in corridors. People are dying in the car park. Police are called in to help control things. Murderers escape from prison because the Police are occupied. Here. Have this. We're washing our hands, self-islolating, playing behind closed doors to keep murderers off the streets - not because "it's just Flu".

See Italy......
Have a great afternoon

Some great points, with the addition of the fact that people who would have a significant impact from the Flu can get a flu shot & nothing exists for this as yet.

Enjoy the last 3 months of middle age. You don't become elderly til you reach 70. You'll find next season you go to the Lane with a packet of Werthers in your pocket (2 if it's a replay with extra-time possible), and a travel rug to help you keep warm. You'll also hate the pre-match light show.

Is it 70 when you’re allowed to block the stairwells greeting your already sat down mates who you’ve just come down on the bus with and then grimace when someone says “excuse me”?

No, that starts much earlier, and involves blokes discussing where they've just supped their last 5 pints. The over-70s don't have good enough hearing to know when someone has said 'excuse me'. We generally move out of the way in response to the kidney-punch, though...

Its not though. Its a mild cold for the majority of people and if we can delay the spread it will be frustrating but in 18 months we will have a vaccine against it.

Spot on Phil - the actions around controlling the spread are all about reducing societal risk - ie all our nurses, policemen and telephone sterilisers (hitchhikers guide!) being ill at once would result in structural breakdown. Add to that the financial meltdown as global production and trade freezes over - see current FTSE index - and the financial sector starts to creak.

Government actions are nothing to do with the health risk to individuals and everything to do with trying to maintain societal stability. This is why you can seemingly illogically close down leisure activities but leave public transport running, exposing many more. Because if you stop people getting to work you cause the very thing that you’re trying to avoid.

If your under 60, death rate IF INFECTED is about 1.3% .
Under 40, is 0.4%.
More worrying for average forum member death rate for 70-80 year olds is 8%.

So, I'd say carry on, and stop the hysteria (in my medical opinion).

Sadly, I think it is almost inevitable that the threat of Covid19 is going to impact severely on a lot of aspects of day to day life and not just football. I think a very likely scenario that sport will have to face in the next 2 or 3 weeks or so, based on the increase in confirmed cases we are now seeing, is a confirmed case in a member of a club/team. If this happens to a PL player for example then in line with current guidelines all his teammates are likely to be asked to self-quarantine, which team is going to be happy to play them anyway? I can genuinely see the scenario that this season will not be completed.
Like the owner of Notts Forrest. For example.

This wouldn't have felt as bad pre-WWW

Common sense says follow the guidance and we all have a responsibility because it's not just our own health, but others more vulnerable who we could impact.

We all know some will enjoy spreading fear under the guise of banter and others will be blase.

Be sensible and mindful, and carry on until the powers that be tell you otherwise.

I heard some expert on the radio yesterday saying that stopping someone carrying Covid-19 from attending a football match might be counter productive.

At a football match you actually have pretty limited contact with a small number of people. Otherwise you might go to a pub and actually have much greater contact with more people.

Been playing on my mind - say all games are to be played in empty stadiums (Man City will be used to that) and televised.
Surely a lot of people will go to the pub to watch the game for the atmosphere and be in closer proximity to loads of people

I think the idea is that people don’t be stupid and selfish cunts, and self isolate rather than prioritise watching a football game.

As said on R4, the govt can tell the broadcasters to withdraw rights to show matches from pubs to counter this problem.

'Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis has announced he has coronavirus - just days after he attended the home game against Millwall.'

Some time ago I posted that it's not the fans we have to worry about, but if a member of any team gets the virus the rest will have to be quarantined for a couple of weeks. It won't take much to throw the whole programme into chaos. Rather than see games played behind closed doors, I fear that the season will be suspended at some point in the relatively near future.

Just when we're on a good FA Cup run, too...

Chances of a 70 - 80 year old remembering his password for the Forum is probably less than 8%

No offence meant, or outrage intended :)
Worksop. A place purposely avoided by anybody and everybody, since and including Robin Hood.
So there.

They are talking about it now on Talksport.

They are saying playing in an empty stadium will cause problems because people will watch the matches in pubs.
They are suggesting the season is temporarily suspended and if the virus continues for many weeks....then end the season and maybe play a mini play-off league regards which teams are relegated and qualify for the Champions/ Europa league.

Its a tricky situation.....regards getting the balance right between carrying on to a certain degree and having military style lock downs.
So far everyone who has died in the UK have been elderly with previous health issues.
How do you protect the vulnerable? Ban over 70’s from leaving the house? Make sure all visitors to the elderly wear face masks and use hand gels?

Apparently Gary Neville has suggesting we freeze the season and continue once it’s under control, which hopefully might only be 2 or 3 weeks
but what if it takes months? PS I go on holiday to Mexico via Paris in 11 days....I’m wondering if my flight will go ahead?
