Over 70? Get out!

If this story is true (it is a Sky News report?), it looks like the PL trying the dead cat on the table tactic - lob in a ridiculous idea to distract from the real issue. They would have to show that we oldies are more likely to spread the disease (presumably not the case) or that we are mentally incapable of taking a rational decision about the risk to ourselves. I suppose anyone has spent a lifetime watching Utd must be insane. Closing the Internet down is the only solution.
Incidentally, I believe the dead cat died of Coronavirus. They ought to be careful where they throw it....

Nothing to do with spreading the disease. People over 70 are far more likely to die from the symptoms due to age, health concerns etc than younger healthier people.

But that is for me to decide whether I want to take the risk. By all means ban me if I am a greater danger to others than young people are.

Absolute fucking lunacy, and discriminatory, you wouldn't ban all Chinese people would you.
Why the huge panic?
Unbelievable they are planning behind closed doors games, for what??, one dead 75 year old with health problems before the virus.

It's a fucked up soft, nanny state, world.

Sky are reporting this with no comments from anyone at The Premier League. They're loving this whole thing and this is just another thing to jump on. They've been disgusting on the whole with what they are reporting. It's not news, it's mostly hypothetical situations that are no help to nobody. From saying 80% of people "could" be asked to self isolate to saying funerals "could" be streamed online. Just report the facts.

I imagine the Premier League may warn older fans that they are in the age range of being seriously effected with the virus but I'll be amazed if over 70s are "banned". I'm not even sure how you would enforce it without huge delays to games

I tell you what, I’m not so disgusted by this, it’ll improve the general speed of everything in and around the ground. If it’s extended to supermarkets, shopping will be a much quicker experience.

no offence intended by the way

Why not just kill us all off? But you're still not getting my loyalty points.

It’s that Trevor Brookings idea I tell ya.

He wants to level the playing field and stop us winning the FA Cup.

Well I’ve got something to tell you Trev. I’ve just checked on wiki and you are 71. Out!!!

It's when the players get ill that the real fun starts. One gets sick that's the whole squad in lockdown. They say 80% will get it in some form and it is still weeks away from its peak.

I am sure you're right. Can you send Sky a 'Roy's View from S2'?

The 80% is a worst case scenario for emergency planning purposes, not a forecast.

If the government decide to advise at risk groups to self isolate, and not attend public events, it would be sage advice.
The implications are, that anyone ignoring such advice, could place themselves, and others at risk. Darwinism will take care of the terminally stupid, and anyone who is healthy enough to contract the virus due to others stupidity, will have a few uncomfortable weeks off work.

If the advisory fails, and cases continue to rise exponentially, it gives the government carte blanche to impose more serious measures.

While some terminally stupid might die, and rightly so, it would not affect healthy journo’s from further scare mongering.

Is a healthy person of 70 more likely to catch the illness? No, so they are no more likely to pass it on than anyone else. In fact, men appear to be more likely than women to catch it; women only at football matches, anyone?

Surely my age doesn't make me more likely to get the virus and therefore pass it on to others, just to 'possibly' be more seriously affected? And that's only if I have an underlying serious condition. I assume supporting United doesn't count.
