No, not this one - though some races are more susceptible to some diseases than others. It's the principle that bothers me - the suggestion that it's OK to ban an entire minority group from a public event because they have a somewhat higher 'risk factor'

During the IRA terrorist campaign, a policy of bannning all Irish people from city centres would have probably reduced the risk of a bomb exploding - but such a policy was viewed as discrimatory and wrong.

If you are going to ban over 70's from football games, shouldn't you also ban other vulnerable groups? For example presumably many disabled people will be more vulnerable to the virus. Should they all be banned?

I agree with you in principal but feel you've moved the goalposts slightly. The comparison with the IRA is slightly spurious. An outright ban is a ridiculous idea and almost impossible to implement. However the notion of informing people that something could be detrimental specifically to their particular group, whether that be race, gender, size, age or whatever it is, is in someway wrong is bizarre.

The problem with this is the authoritarian, "nanny state" attitude. Advise people of the risks, fine, keep people informed, but the decision to take the risk should lie with the person, not the state.
Of course, the other side of the coin is that it is the state's responsibility. It is the same argument with smoking, where the state gets involved with trying to disuade people from smoking. People say it's not for the state to decide, but it has to be pointed out that we have handed the state a mandate to look after our health (and to fund it); we can't have it both ways.

Yep, it makes me laugh when they still tell us that more people will die of flu. Maybe right now, but it seems most unlikely going forward because it isn’t seasonal, it’s just as infectious as flu if not more so and based on current data has a higher death rate.
