The logic was essentially “we should play them to see how well our championship front two would do against Premier League defences”. That is utter bollocks. If Wilder reckons Didsy and Billy will do a job against someone, great. But he’d never reckon they should start because they were a force in the Championship. That’s primitive thinking and not what’s got him and us to where we are today.

TBH when Leon is on it he plays well with anyone , look at the way him and brooks torn Wendy a new arsehole in the bouncing day massacre !
I would start billy again at palace personally.

Bill has been in the matchday squad for 21 out of the 24 league fixtures missing only the 3 games for which he was suspended. He has got game time as a substitute in 12 of those games, and has started 2 of them, including pertinently our most recent league fixture versus the reigning Champions.

Ultimately, late in his career after years of putting it in, he's club captain and involved in pretty much every match day in the Premier League (and this year's experience confirms that, rightly or wrongly, the media contribute to each and every fixture in the Premier League being such a big event that it bears absolutely no relation to playing matches in the other divisions) at his own club. Yes, I'm sure he'd like to have had more starts but he's hardly been on the fringes.

Moreover, the indications are that we're entering a period of the season where fitness, tiredness and slight dips in form amongst the other strikers, suggest that opportunities to be in the starting line-up are going to become more regular.

In such circumstances, I'm not sure that Billy will be even giving a second thought to dropping back down to the 2 games per week grind of the Championship. He's done plenty of that to get here. There are some utter cretins in the media, though, as we know.

And, finally, the inference from Logan that a manager like Chris Wilder is in the business of giving a player a 'farewell' run-out in a crucial league fixture against Manchester City...I mean, seriously? The ignorance is embarrassing.

I never watch MOTD, but as I was home I did last night. The woman describing Billy’s play was struggling to read her script quickly enough. They’ll be getting fans on next to do the “expert” bit.

The discussion between Gabby Logan and Danny Murphy was bizarre. Touting Billy for a drop down to the Championship and a move to Leeds?

Wilder has never say that Billy is on his way out like they discussed. Wilder has said that he’s given Billy the option if he wants first team football elsewhere and Billy has said he wants to stay.

Wilder has also said recently that he’s happy with the four forwards he has (Mousse, McB, McG and Billy).

What Wilder has said is that Leon will be going out in Jan. Perhaps he’d be happy with a move the Yorkshire bottlers

Tbh I'm not arguing whether he would or wouldn't improve the team at this current moment. My argument is we don't know until we give him a chance, and he has more than earned it - if a player of 'limited ability' like Bash has stepped up why can't Billy?

The goal at home against Leeds is my favourite one. It shows everything great about Sharp and how he manages to peel away from defenders in the box to find space. In the blink of an eye the defenders have lost him. If you watch it back there are three Leeds defenders looking at him as the ball goes in the net as they were all expecting him to be in the 6 yard box.
