Avoid Sheffield Tap, it's bloody awful, all that real ale rubbish, no proper lager such as Fosters or Carling. Away fans usually go in the Howard, decent boozer and will serve Fosters.
🤔🤔🤔 Let me think Sword Dancer or The Chantrey Inn

There's an off licence just out of the station, to the left. Go there. Buy special brew. 8 cans of. You'll then need to head back to the station a little way onto the bridge the culvert runs under. This is the entrance to MEGATRON! Anyway shout "knowsy" loud as fuck down there. I'll come out and assure you safe passage to the lane. After you've handed me the brews of course. I'm our "top lad". :)

There’s fucking Daleks down there, very dangerous.

I recommend you stop off at every service station on your way up. And on your way back probably. As for pubs, I usually end up in Triple Point Brewery if I arrive in plenty of time.

Sam Smiths Pubs - The worst pubs known to mankind - EVER!
Some of their pubs are great buildings and locations, Sinclairs in Manchester and the one on the river in York are 2 good examples.
However, their ale is literally undrinkable! Organic shite.
If they charged normal prices they wouldn’t have a business.

you can if you like experience a time travelling “sort of” drink in a pub called the brown bear, you won’t be allowed in with football shirts on, you wont be able to have your phone out, you also can’t sing or listen to music, you can talk - not too loudly though, nothing more nothing less, the beer is really cheap it’s like going back in time, welcome travellers ! (Don’t think kids can go in either)

Ha Ha The Brown Bear

Quite a few years ago Me and my daughter my mate and his son wandered in there think it was a Bank Holiday when United had played at home. We walked in the pub none of us had been in since it had been a Sam Smiths pub. We walked in and not aware of the selection of alcoholic beverages they sold were looking at the pumps on the bar my daughter was looking for something she might like
It was not busy the guy behind the bar asked us what we would like to drink, we said we was trying to make our mind up, he said hurry up and 10 seocinds later he said get out youre BARRED
We burst out laughing and said in a John McEnroe way 'are you serious' he confirmed he was and we left the establishment in dis believement

Enjoy your day in Sheffield but remember the best way to approach the SYP is always face on never turn your back and hands firmly behind head unless you fancy the twenty yard skull bash dash.
I'd advise them to wear wing mirrors just in case.

Try the Jaipur in the Tap. Pricey and a bit of an acquired taste but an excellent beer. Just don't tell bartman you'll be there ;)
Ubiquitous now, Jaipur. It's all over the country. It has become a "staple" IPA. I went in the Euston Flyer pub near St Pancras station the other week and it was even on in there, a dedicated Fuller's pub. They'd got it on instead of Fuller's ESB! I think that's a shame! I used to like Jaipur, a lot, but I got bored with it, I think there are better IPA's around, but it's still a very good beer. They had a beer on in the Tap a few weeks ago from Arbour, called "faked Alaska". That was amazing, Tasted just like an ice-cream - and it was strong, 6%! Worth looking out for if you like that kind of thing.

I can confirm that the Rutland Arms is a good shout. Often get Blades and away fans alike in there post match and usually always engage in conversation together.

Hasn't made it out this way yet! But then again neither have indoor toilets or dial up...

In time honoured fashion Ken...it'd be rude not to...

Called in to a pub on the way home from work last night.
There was no one else in the bar but me and the landlord.
Got my pint and after a short while the landlord went through to the back room, leaving me alone in the place.
I bit bored, I wandered around looking at things hanging on the walls etc., drifted past the bar and a strange voice said “Your aftershave is absolutely divine!”
Taken by surprise I distanced myself from the bar, and found myself near the jukebox. Then it happened again. A different voice said “Loser. What’s wrong with you? Drinking alone! Tosser.”
Shortly afterwards the landlord reappeared and noticed I looked a bit perturbed. “Is there a problem, sir?” he asked.
I told him what I had heard.
“Oh, I can explain that!” he laughed.

“The peanuts on the bar are complimentary, and the jukebox is out of order.”

😀😀

Thanks everyone for your replies!

Pubs look excellent, similar to Brighton with a wide range. Looks like we should start at the station? and then progress to the other excellent suggestions and maybe watch the early Kick Off too!

Setting off at 6.30 and coming up via Doncaster so after a few beers on the train it should be a good day out. It's also my final Premier League ground to tick off and (I think) 153rd overall. It's certainly one I've wanted to tick off for a while, with a near sell out from us it should be a good atmosphere.

Won't bring the Coronavirus or anything blue / white related and I don't think I've ever worn colours for an away game so that shouldn't be a problem. None of the people we are coming up with are young / stupid.

Cheers.

If you're wanting to catch the early game and enjoy some nice beer then I'd probably head for The Head of Steam as only 5 minutes walk from the station.

The Globe and The Graduate will both have it on as well.

Enjoy your day in Sheffield. Just hopefully not the result 👍
