15 Managers in 40 years.

As the 40th Anniversary of our 4th division title approaches I was surprised counting back we only had 15 managers from Porterfield to Wilder in that time. (excluding caretakers)

That doesn’t seem that many in the modern game, how many have Wednesday or West Ham got through in that time?

Suggests we are a more patient and tolerant fan base than we think?

That or we accepted apathy averageness for far too long at times.

Considering Porterfield, Bassett and Warnock account for half of that time, plus 4 years of Wilder, 11 managers accounting for the other 16 years tells a different story. I'd imagine we're about average over the period to be honest.

It isn’t that many in the modern game, but you started 40 years ago and it wasn’t the modern game then. From 81-95 we only had three.

Don't know the exact numbers but I'm presuming Notts County and Leeds will be up there with the highest turnover of managers/shortest tenures.

Also Derby have gone through quite a few since sacking Nigel Clough and appointed McLaren twice!

West Ham have had the fewest managers of any club in the history of English football.

They've only had 17 managers in their entire history.

Up until 1989 they had only had 5.

Not true. Read on in the article you got that table from and you'll see that Ipswich have had fewer managers. The article was written in November 2015 at which point Slaven Bilic was West Ham's 17th permanent manager; since then they've moved to 20 with the appointments of David Moyes (twice) and Manuel Pellegrini.

Ipswich have had fewer - they're on 17 at the moment but there's a number of clubs below that by virtue of being formed later or joining the league at a later date.

There's also the fact that South Barnsley has only existed in its current form since 1990. They've still had 19 managers in that time - more than Ipswich have in over 80 years of being professional.
