On the other hand, next week is our winter break week. We could just postpone it until then. I'm sat very near the front of the Kop and I'm expecting quite an unpleasant time. Mind you, I'll be piss wet through just walking from the car.

I'd support a 'winter break'.

If somebody could tell us when winter is. Nowadays it's anytime from late Feb. to early April.

The only places likely to see gale/severe gale force in Sheffield is over the tops Ringinglow above Lodge Moor Redmires etc cant see there being that much of an issue in town.
I cycle frequently up Redmires and trust me it’s windy up there even when it’s not windy ...

Does anyone know where this rumour about the match possibly being cancelled, due to wind and rain, has come from? Has someone on here made it up? Because never in my life have I heard of a match being called off because a storm is approaching. Snow and ice - yes - I can see that. But wind and rain?

I think this is probably a figment of someone's imagination on here? 🤔

Common sense really. If the weather looks like it is going to make the game a lottery... Call it off.
The rugby was a farce yesterday.
I can remember playing a game at Stocksbridge many years ago.... Keeper was having to try and save his own goal kicks.

Agree, for me we should do the sensible thing and call the game off.

The match is on TV, so I can’t see it being called off unless they really have to.

Just been out, debris flying everywhere. TV calling the shots.

What kind of debris? I’ve been out too around S4 and S5 and it’s not too bad....very windy but no danger.
TV have a lot of power but if there’s a serious danger threat in and around the stadium then the tv will be over ruled. However as already mentioned unless there’s slates falling off roofs, walls being blown down, cars being blown off the road....then it’s all down to how the ball plays inside the stadium.
Can appreciate Sunday league matches being called off but will our stadium block out the bulk of the wind? Will our desso pitch deal with a few hours of heavy rain?

The only problem will be at the Bramall lane end the wind tends to howl through the tunnel under the Westfield corner but that got better after the hotel was built too.

Based on current conditions and the fact its supposedly due to improve by kick off, I see no reason to call it off unless theres been structural damage that could be a danger.

Some strong gusts but we're high up and it's not the type of stuff that makes you think oh my god.

Not sure where you are Davalon but at S12, it's felt like my house is about to take off all night! Non stop rain tapping on the window to add to it.
The forecast I've seen is for the wind to increase up to kick off but dying down around 6.....if only we had the choice of delaying the kick off 🤔

S5 mate.

We're about 2 or 3 miles from the Lane but much higher up.

I just think where we are in the open it's not horrendous and I'm using the assumption that it must be worse here than inside the ground.

Just been outside to move kids trampoline away from the road. I'd be very surprised if this game is on.

The weather is horrific. Pelting it down with gale force wind. The sensible option for safety of a fans and to ensure we don't watch a compete lottery is to postpone but BT won't like it. If it was going to get called off they would have done it 7 or 8am as forecast gets worse up to ko and Bournemouths 500 fans will have set off.

The team will have been up here last night anyway.

Now we will probably see a farce of a game with a ground nowhere near nearly full as it was going to be (seen lots not travelling or cant get) that starts (we get the TV money) and then it will get called off. Didzy will prob score only for it not to count.

I don't think many fans would have issues if they called it off. They could do it now it if they leave it longer they will feel forced to give it a go.

Game on. Here in S13 very windy and rainy but if S2 is anything like this then can see reason why its on. Also forecast for wind speed in S2 has changed. Getting better now from mid day onwards speeds below 50 mph at kick off and down in 40's during game. Biggest problem will be trying to keep dry. Just walked dog for 15 minutes and completely soaked.

This may come back to haunt me, but I feel you're being a touch hysterical there Deaders. Forecast improves later, chances are the wind isn't as bad on the pitch and I imagine only a couple hundred will not attend.

The couple who sit next to me treated their family to today's match. They all live in Reading. They've had to cancel as it's not worth the risk. I hope they get a refund.

What has strong wind and rain got to do with fan safety? The club can only be liable for conditions in and around the ground.
They can’t be held responsible dangerous driving....drivers not taking into account the conditions.
I’m pleased it’s being played....it could be a memorable match..,thats talked about for decades.
Said it before....if we win...then most will be laughing about the crazy conditions and how Norwood curled one in from a corner etc.
If we lose.....then no doubt some will say the club blundered by playing it. Really looking forward to seeing Berge’s home debut.

Thing is, there's no blunder by the club surely? It's not us who can call it off, but the match officials.

I see they've adopted a southern mentality

Fortunately I managed to avoid it when I lived down there

Cerberus, it's not about "nanny state and health and safety". Totally agree about personal responsibility, but organisations make these announcements because a significant number of people DON'T take personal responsibility and would have a go at suing Network Rail, SUFC, Meadowhall etc, if they injured a fingernail through being blown over by a light breeze when on the premises. I'm not a great fan of big organisations, but get why they put these announcements out. It's a form of "insurance" to stop claims by the sort of morons who claim whiplash when their car has been lightly bumped by a scooter doing 15mph (personal experience here!). Insurance companies are no angels, but us punters aren't helped by these scammers!

Yes I fully understand that. And where has it come from? The US.

Going back, maybe 25 years or so now, I worked for a large American company and I had some exposure to the way they had to do things differently in the US to here, because it was a very litigious society. So things that we were doing here back then were not possible to do in the US, for fear of someone bringing a law suit. I remember thinking at the time, "thank God we don't have to operate like that!" but I also guessed that one day it would come here too, because we tend to mimic whatever they do.

In the US the lawyers make a fortune out of this kind of stuff and I think it's wrong. But it's here with us as well now. "Have you been injured at work?". Solicitors advertising for business, encouraging people to make claims - this kind of thing never happened in the past. What it needs is for the Courts to throw these things out and maybe some tightening up of the judicial system so that people can't bring these half-arsed claims to Court and waste everyone's time and money, when it's clear that personal responsibility has not been taken. The thing is, we've allowed it to get out of hand, so even folks who may otherwise be decent moral citizens see an opportunity to make a bit of money out of things they would have never dreamt of claiming on some years ago.

The whiplash thing is a good example. A few years ago my wife gently nudged the back of another car whilst coming to a stop. Impact speed? Maybe 5mph. There were no marks on either vehicle, no damage, not even a scratch. The driver of the car in front put a claim in for whiplash afterwards. She was perfectly fine at the time, but she got some time off work for it and we kept getting letters from the insurance company for about a year afterwards. Complete nonsense. Eventually it went absolutely nowhere thank God. But that's the kind of society we've encouraged due to being too amenable to such ridiculous claims.

I think it's about time this sort of stuff was quashed. I think the government should come out and say, "You know when it rains...things get wet and slippy - don't bother putting any claims in if you fall down at the railway station because of that - because those claims won't be heard in Court".

I'm probably being unrealistic of course.

Yes, it’s the ref who decides if a match is playable....the ref has been on the pitch this morning and agreed it’s fine.

I think the club are responsible for safety in and around the ground and due to there being no overnight structural damage in S2 they‘ve deemed it safe

however in recent times Derby County called off their match against Cardiff based on many of their fans struggling to get to the ground. There had been blizzards through the night in Derby and it was suggested that cars would struggle to get off their drives and minor roads being blocked. Derby were rightly concerned their ground would be less than 50% full where as today the vast majority will make the match.

Personally thought the semi-final against Spurs was worse than today....it was freezing and windy with snow showers. The wind chill made it feel like -5.
I took my 7 years old grandson to his first match and remember thinking we wouldn‘t stay if it went to extra time. It was unbearably cold.

I'm not disagreeing with anything you say here, however I remember a storm way back and i was at the bottom of the parkway at the traffic lights when that new building lost its roof, pieces of the building narrowly missed my jeep but hit the car next to me, they were screaming third heads off and scared to death - I ran the lights to get away, it was like something out of twister..

Dodgy fabricated roofs are a threat so keep your wits about you today blades..

That Derby postponement was more than a little questionable. The snow wasn't that bad and around the ground it was fairly clear. The EFL backed them up, but it definitely looked like opportunism given their injury list at the time.

But snow and wind are quite different in terms of being assessed for danger.

If the ball won't stay still later, then it will be called off. But if the forecast is right, and there's some cover from the stands, it'll be fine I think.

Rain certainly isn't an issue.

The same happened to me 15 years ago.
Reversing out of a car parking space at about 5mph max. No damage to my car but a slight scratch on their car, the women was fine.
Totally amazed/ shocked to receive a letter saying she’s been off work suffering from whip lash and I was liable for loss of earnings and injury compensation.
I contested how a car travelling at slow walking pace can cause whip lash...it was eventually dropped and I was just charged for the minor repair.
