So.....if these articles are to be believed, it seems that the City owners are said to be penning a huge cheque for the summer. The manner is which the have fallen away from the title race so early, is said to really disappoint the owners. The expect Champions League football next season and are willing to fund wholesale changes in order to challenge next year.

It is rumoured that a few players will be allowed to leave next year, in order to accommodate new arrivals. One of the names deemed surplus to requirements would be Kyle Walker, despite having time remaining on his contract. His market value will have dropped significantly, in comparison to what they paid for him...

So I guess the question is being posed a little earlier?

We all know that Wilder is an admirer, he is said to have had a word after to City game....telling him that he would take him to the lane. It seems like a natural move all round really, he loves the club and said himself that he would like to finish here if he could.

The question being? Where does Walker fit into our current system? He'touching 30, but I would like to think that he still has enough in him to play that wing back role. I can't even believe that I am having to think about this....a player of Walker's calibre should be a complete no brainer shouldn't it!

There is 100% a role for him with us, it's just the finer terms really isn't it. If he is made available in the summer, then what would he a sensible amount to pay for him services? And what sort of salary would he dictate from us?....it's a brave move that has to suit all parties, as opposed to bringing him here solely on sentiment!

Interesting....

I think we could afford the fee, but not the wage.

Man City sold Delph for £8m or something and he was a first teamer, but I bet Everton are paying him over £100k a week.

With some success I can see us opening up the wage structure a tad, but not to those degrees.

As for where he'd play, I think it'd be RCB. As quick as he is and as good with the ball as he is, he isn't nimble like our wingbacks. He'd be a CB less susceptible to the counter.

Unless CW has a definite role for Walker in the team I don’t think sentiment should come into it. Walker was a shoe in for the England team 3 seasons back but his form has dropped since - didn’t he have an injury a while ago ? Maybe he’s struggled to get that form back. And as has been said - his wages would be a big problem.

And that’s working out well fot them much like Walcott.

big wages buy big names not big teams

Aye I thought it was a good deal at the time but it seems like Guardiola knew Delph was about to shit the bed form and fitness wise.

Think Walker's pace makes him a bit of a better option as a senior pro, over Delph, but still, we want to be bringing in younger players who we can mould rather than 30 year olds.

I’d like to see Walker relieved of defensive duties (in the main) and given a more roving brief and allowed to get forward. For me his bombing down the line has always been the strongest part of his game and I would have been interested to see if he could have been developed into more of an attacking player like Bale was. Probably too late now at his age, but I’d like to see him in a more advanced position.

He could do a job similar to Jags albeit playing more often than Phil, plus he'd be a great mentor to any young player we have in mind for the same position.

If KW has any inclination to return "home" he will no doubt know that the salary he once commanded at Man Citeh won't be repeated at the Blades, or indeed probably any other club

Has as been intimated, the country has probably already seen the best of Kyle Walker. At 30 years young most players can't expect the sort of salary they had when in their prime, playing for England and when giving your best performances. Having said that, I still believe he has a lot to offer and yes, to some degree, we being Utd, would probably struggle to pay him enough without breaking our wage structure.

Perhaps he has earned enough money in his career not to put salary at the top of his priority list?

We'll see

Agree that his speed allows him to get into great attacking positions but his final ball is often poor. I'm not a stats guru but he's got to be up there for getting crosses intercepted at the near post. Still a good player but wages probably a bar.

Take him in a heartbeat. Another significant upgrade on what we have. Past his very best but still with pace to burn and ability to beat a man.

Would say he is probably the perfect fit into our team as it stands.

He'd want big wages and a command a fairly hefty transfer fee, for a 30year old with no resale value, hmmmm probably get 3 year out of him at best. I just can't see how it would be good value for money when we have Baldock who is getting better while Kyle's form is only going to drop. At this moment he would be better than Baldock in a year or two I doubt it.

As for the people saying he's dipping, I watched him a few times at the weekend, he's still more than capable of putting the burners on. He's rapid and his touch is quality.

I can see him abroad, he would still tear it up in the lesser leagues (Italy,Spain,Germany) and get the wages, which at his age will be his last big payday (100k plus per week)

Walker is currently on £150K a week until 2024.

What figures would we be talking now?
Due to his age.....his value won’t be extra high with the stupid figures.
But I’d still say probably at best 40 million fee and 100K a week wages.
Also his value is only going to go down each and every year.

To be honest I can‘t see it being possible yet. We can’t get anywhere near those figures.
Also Wilder doesn’t do sentimentality.....he’s planning for the future investing on players with value.

If we hadn't signed Retsos, I would have been tempted to sign him as an option at RCB, a role he has performed for both England and City on occasion.

If we signed him to play RWB, we'd have a very expensive backup to Baldock, with no prospect of improvement. I'm not sure that's the best use of our money.

For sentimental reasons, it would be lovely to see "our Kyle" back at the lane, for footballing reasons, I'm not sure if would be such a good move.
With Wilder rarely letting sentiment getting in the way of progress, I can't see it happening.

Not for me, if only due to the uncertainty surrounding Hando. I wouldn't choose to have to make 2 changes in one close season to a back 5 who have around 70 games together as a unit and are the second best in the League.

No chance. He is still quality and very much part of Guordiolas plans. He was excellent on Sunday.

IF he signed for us where would he play? Is he a significant upgrade on Baldock? Basham? Yes as an individual he is, but it’s the whole of that back 3/5 that make them what they are. Given his wages, would it really be a must have signing? Maybe as a freebie Summer of 2021

I honestly think we could spend the money more wisely on someone else.

Walker won’t see his deal out to 2024 and if they can’t sell him which they probably won’t due to his age and wage then They May pay him off, which puts us in play

It’s more !!

UTB

Be nice of him to take a £100k p/w pay cut to join us in his early 30s. I love united but if I was a decent footballer I wouldn’t be taking that pay cut at that stage of my career.

If I were him I wouldn’t be giving away £20m of contract!
I would sit there and say I don’t want to leave unless it’s to Sheff U.
We can’t get anywhere near his wages...but if city offered to pay him £10m to go now on a free we could pick up a £5m signing on fee and offer him £30k a week for 3 years....and that’s both doable for us and Walker isn’t really out of pocket!

Alternatively we could offer city half his wages and take him on loan for the remainder of his contract?

Aside from the financials I have doubts on his ability to fill Bash’s boots.
pace wise he obviously blows Bash away, however for those clearing headers and last gasp tackles....hmmm....not so sure.
