They're not 2 I've seen much of but they both appear very promising.
Will Elias be a perm or loan? The bits I’ve seen of him look very promising as you say, we’re a bit weak for cover in that area too.

We already had him - Moose.

I thought it was Arturo Vidal from Barca? But I did hear this was a plant from the club to flush him out. Tell him some false info and wait for it to drop. Then they find out who he is.

Im not entirely sure that someone posting on a forum can actually hinder a transfer though. Agents will be phoning clubs left right and centre.

I remembered this was mentioned last window. Assumed looking back that the marquee signing was Jags. Ex international on big wages. Although a great signing for us, didnt seem out of the ordinary as he was coming back to his former club.

Calling Jags a marquee signing seems a stretch to me. He's 37,and like you say, he's coming back. Maybe 'marquee' means big money? So McBurnie would be that. I guess we'll never really know.

Didn’t RC hint at a marquee signing from abroad though . Or maybe I read it wrong , was a while back .

Saying McBurnie was a little tongue in cheek

The only reason I said McBurnie was that I thought that HRH had to personally underwrite the deal. Didn't KM say no to the big deal spend so HRH underwrote it?

Yes it was said that McBurnie was given the ok by the prince.

For some reason I was thinking the marquee signing was someone based abroad . I’ve probably read it wrong or it’s me being greedy !

Richard Cadette (oh I how miss him) said that the Princes team wanted a marquee signing in the summer - it was never publicly stated or anything like that. Came from RC and this forum only.

Completely agree, depends where our sights were at the time.
I highly doubt another player akin to his experience would have been tempted to join us at the start of the season.
I'd like to see what calibre of player the board would consider as a marquee signing now though.
I would imagine we would be more tempting to play for now for players as well.

Either way it's exciting.

I may be in the minority but other than help shift a few more Utd shirts in Riyadh and Jeddah, I'm not sure what a 'marquee signing' who would, I assume, be on a salary befitting their status, add to the group. The risk of disrupting what is a very close-knit squad would be high.

Personally, I'd much rather stick with CW's preferred approach.

I don’t think CW would allow that do you? There’s no indication that he has any less say in dealings and indeed he’s implied in the past that if that happened he’d be off. Given he’s just signed a new deal I can only presume he doesn’t feel that there is a danger of that happening

I mean there's a chance they could be an outstanding footballer befitting their 'marquee' status. Every transfer carries a risk

Where is the marquee signing by the prince ? Wasn’t that mooted at some point.

This was unfortunately misheard by RC. Prince Abdullah, as part of his ongoing activities to immerse himself in our local culture, had been in the last few months of the season listening to Football Heaven almost religiously. He’d been particularly taken by one particular regular caller’s suggestion that we should sign John Marquis, and thought if the caller was so adamant that he was worth bringing in, with repeated “believe you me” assurances, he was worth a punt. Abdullah suggested this to Wilder – our interest ended when he moved to Pompey. The Marquis pronunciation was an error by Abdullah, who had simply assumed the FH caller had mispronounced a foreign-sounding name in classic United fan fashion.

That would be understandable and an easy mistake to make. As long as HRH didn't take any advice from he who knows best - Brian the Blade!

Leicester have shown smart recruitment works better than marquee players (think villa and Fulham)

that said to displace the current 11 these players are going to have to be class!!!

We are subsequently in effect releasing heneghan, but good to see Tyler smith fixed up. Believe he was at Bristol rovers earlier in the season but had a problem with injuries., important he pushes on in the next six months if he is going to make it.

Beat Arsenal and Citeh and we won't have to bring anyone else in :p

The really nice thing is the relaxing feeling that we know we are under no pressure to do business this window. Which given this is a window where clubs can make crazy deals, particularly in this division, in the scramble to stay up, is a huge relief. If we miss out on all of our deals for whatever reason (agent issues, player demands, transfer fee demands) we’re in as strong a position as I think we’ve ever been to not give in or make bad decisions.

Disagree, we’ve done brilliant so far and not to take anything from our players we are not going upwards and onwards with our squad. Needs additional quality and athleticism.
question for me is can CWAK get the 100% out of a quality athlethic player that he does from our current players most of who are running at 100% week in week out.

Was only being a little tinker. You're correct in that we do have improve gradually over the next several windows.

Wouldn't it be nice going into the Cup game on 38 points. We could have a real go at it then.

Will Ben Heneghan set some sort of record for longest serving player at Sheffield United with least minutes played ?
