Every window since the first season Wilder’s been here we’ve gone for players that we’ve tried to get at earlier windows:

• last season we went for Dowell in January having enquired the previous summer
• this season we signed Freeman, having tried the year previous
• the Holmes & Leonard deals continued the negotiations from the previous window

Are there any in the target list from the summer that we might still be looking at this window, or has our rise meant we’ve moved on?

Of the Cadette-confirmed targets in the Movement thread that we tried to sign in the summer but couldn’t, and who didn’t head elsewhere, we have the following:

• Daniel Amartey
• Callum Chambers
• Kyle Naughton
• Kalvin Phillips
• Joe Allen

Going back to August 2018, Cadette did also say we were interested in Assombalonga, who I note Villa are eyeing.

It’s possible of course that we’ve moved on, either due to other signings or because how we’re doing better options are now targets. Chambers is obvious out long term, and Phillips highly unlikely. But Naughton would be a better option than Freeman I feel as backup to Baldock for the timebeing.
