I doubt it. Back in the day we had proper reserves, some I think almost never played for the first team. I’m going to phone a friend on this one

I feel like I saw Ashley Fickling (a central defender?) listed on programmes as a senior player for about 5 years in the Bassett era and I’m not sure he ever played.

I feel like I saw Ashley Fickling (a central defender?) listed on programmes as a senior player for about 5 years in the Bassett era and I’m not sure he ever played.

I remember him, because of the name. I have a vague recollection of an announcer at Saltergate (where our reserves used to play) getting into trouble for mocking his name in some way.
It doesn’t even seem that odd these days.

Played with Ashley for Brunsmeer Jnrs. Always a stand out player, even at U10/11s - he played up front back then and scored something like 65 goals in 20 games.

Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder has offered an update on the Blades' transfer business this month.

"I believe we will get one or two in definitely in the next week," he said.

"But it is a moving market in terms of players coming in, I can't say that any of my players might move on as well, even ones we don't want to move on.

"That's how football is. So we always have to be ready and quickly react to any business that happens, whether its outs or ins."

When asked whether he had received any offers for his players, Wilder added: "No, I want to keep everybody.

“I treat the club’s money as if it’s my own. I’ll ask the question to improve but I’m not signing players for the sake of it.

"That trust and that relationship is reciprocated by the way I deal with those matters."

Alan Biggs now eluding to a surprise sale to enable other purchases. I can't see any of the big guns leaving but that maybe points towards some truth in the Luke Freeman rumours. Shame if true as I think he's done well whenever he's been given a chance - it's just unfortunate that Fleck is ahead of him in the pecking order and Utd no longer play with his preferred/best position in their formation.

New theory for the Robinson signing – if it is Luke Freeman that’s off, Osborn becomes the main Fleck cover so potentially less available for LWB cover. Robinson would plug that gap.

The Freeman for Freeman switch on the bench seemed unusual. Of late we’ll usually go with 3 strikers on the bench, with Jags as the cover for the centre of defence, Besic covering a couple of the midfield slots, one of Luke Freeman or Osborn the left-hand side. Till Villa, when both Freeman & Osborn were on the bench together, it had generally just been Freeman preferred rather than have both on there. But given we were one light with McGoldrick out it was very unusual for us to cover a position that we don’t normally cover – it’s not like Kieron Freeman covers multiple positions either.

Think this is the player Wilder is alluding to – doesn’t want them to go, but may end up doing so. I guess that could be Sharp too, but I‘m expecting him to stay. I doubt that’s a comment on any of our starters.
