On the move
Have we actually signed a keeper on loan (I've seen nothing on the O/S to suggest we have) or will we go with Bennett and Aksalu tomorrow?

Have we actually signed a keeper on loan (I've seen nothing on the O/S to suggest we have) or will we go with Bennett and Aksalu tomorrow?
give aksalu a go.. what is the point of getting these players in if we never give them a chance?
The Blades have brought in goalkeeper Steve Simonsen on a month's loan from Stoke City.
And the 30 year old who joined up with his new team-mates for the first time on Friday morning will be plunged straight into the starting line-up at Doncaster Rovers on Saturday.
With Mark Bunn having been recalled by Blackburn Rovers earlier in the week, Kevin Blackwell was faced with choosing between Ian Bennett, Estonian newcomer Mihkel Aksalu or trying to bring someone else in:
"Ian Bennett is our recognised number two and I decided that with the position we are in we needed a new number one.
"It wouldn't be right to throw Mihkel in at this stage of his career - he is still learning English, never mind not having played any senior games yet.
"If he was to make a mistake on debut the fans would remember that and we don't want to damage his confidence straight away - he is basically one for the future.
"Steve Simonsen is a very good goalkeeper with a real presence and he was a big feature of Stoke's promotion to the Premiership. We are taking him for a month and will see what the situation is then.
"I have to thank Tony Pulis and Stoke for letting Steve out. They understand how difficult it is to get good players in on loan at this time because most clubs are involved in either promotion or relegation."
Bennett must be delighted. I'm happy with Simonsen, but surely the whole point of having a decent number 2 is to let him step up when the number 1 is unavailable. Bennett has been here years now, knows the club, and importantly has trained extensively with the first team squad. If his contract is up in the summer I can't imagine he'll be too keen to stay on. The same thing happened at Leeds as I recall - initially favoured by Blackwell, then ditched for Neil Sullivan early doors and remained out of the team until NW signed him in 2006.
Can anyone remind me of the terms of Bunn's loan?
I wish Robinson had injured himself on September 2nd 2009. Would Bunn have been called back then? Is he seriously going to play against Chelsea on Sunday? Will be well worth a watch with Drogba pinging those free kicks at him.
At least Simo is well over 6 foot.
Think this is a very sensible move. Bennett does have a tendency to pick up injuries and if we ended up going to Cardiff with only a completely untried 'keeper available, there would be uproar on here.
It does sometimes seem like he's damned if does and damned if he doesn't.

I really don't understand what people are complaining about here. Bennett has let us down in the past and isn't good enough to be first choice in a play-off chasing team. Simonsen is clearly a better keeper than Bennett, Aksalu and arguably Bunn too. Do people not want to see the team improved?
Regarding Aksalu, the plan is clearly for Bennett to be moved out next season and Blackwell has planned ahead by bringing in a younger, potentially better replacement as Paddy's number two. It gives him a few months to acclimatise, learn English and have a pre-season before he's called upon for the first team squad. Again, what's the problem with that?
Completely agree with Blackwell, Aksalu would be slaughtered if made a mistake.
No he wouldn't. I'd slate Blackwell for not signing a proper keeper in summer.

Far from it.
When a player is brought into a team, he is given a lot of support from the terraces.
Especially with this game being away from home, there would be a lot of understanding people there if he made a mistake.
You're right, I can remember the shouts from behind the net at Turf Moor of 'Don't worry Lee, it wasn't your fault'
