Well, I said I was happy for the season to end a few weeks ago and it can now. Thanks for last night lads, all my wonderful Blackpool fan mates have crawled back to where they've been for the best part of 30 years and it's a glorious morning.

By the way, you can thank me for Monty's stunner, we were discussing the relative merits of Monty and their Monty, Keith Southern at work yesterday and I pointed out that Monty hadn't scored since Stanley Matthews' days. The fact our other two goals were scored by an ex Preston player just put the icing on the cake.

I was actually very impressed with Blackpool 1st half. They kept the ball very well and were passing around us at times. David Vaughan probably put in the best midfield performance at the lane all season, and with a bit more quality up front they'd have got something out of it IMO.

I felt we were lucky to be 2-0 up at the break. Admittedly we more than held our own but felt that Blackpool had passed the ball much better without creating anything of note. I was surprised to see a Holloway team play that way for some reason.

I'd be happy if we could replicate some of their passing and movement, and combined with a decent striker or two.

Still, it's hard to complain with a 3-0! We did the business in the final third and that's what matters at the end of the day.

I just think the way we got up and at them stopped them from playing.
Had we allowed them the time and space they needed they would have slaughtered us last night and we would possibly have been looking at a car park demo.
Full credit to Blackwell last night for getting things right

They've played a very fluid passing game all season which, as you say, is unusual for a Holloway team. Their trouble seems to be a cutting edge, as Donny were last season, plenty of pretty passing in the middle 3rd without an end product.

They're very reliant on Adam and Vaughan pulling the strings, as it was at their place, it was an even game until they came on at half-time.

I don't think it was so much that Woodward, both sides had loads of time and space on the ball in the first half. I commented on it at the time and what an open game it was. In fact after a bit I was becoming frustrated with United not getting tight enough to them.

It was more that we stepped out in a positive frame of mind and went for it. The time and space we were given allowed us to express ourselves. Blackpool play a surprisingly expansive game which gave us an advantage.

And therein lies the crux. I am happy for the opposition to pass th ball all day long without creating anything just so long as we score the odd goal or two in betweenwhiles.

Give me effective over pretty any day

Or a winning Blackwell team against O'Driscoll !

If we did get O'Driscoll, it would be interesting to see how our fans would react to pretty but mid table football should that happen.

And therein lies my own personal problem! I'm of the opposite ilk, I'd prefer to see us pass and move and provide a reasonable offer of entertainment than be a scrappy battling team.

Who's to say the two can't go hand in hand though? Surely the balance between the two isn't all that hard to find? There's no reason why our current batch of players can't play ball to feet (they're footballers afterall and are brought up to play 'football') and given the fact our strikers are evidently quite decent I'm sure we could provide a better spectacle.

But thats me, hey ho. Thats why I can never understand Arsenal fans moaning that they never win anything - they get some of the best entertainment in the world.

I'm sure most of our fans would be delighted to see us passing it around if only for the culture shock but ultimately, it's a results game and the 'novelty value' would soon wear off.

What worries me is that we had a chance to create a new culture with a bit of money behind us 3 years ago but chose the wrong man for the job and I wonder whether we haven't missed the boat in the short term. I'm not sure the fans have the patience for, say, a 5 year re-building job.

Why not, waited 40 years, another 5 won't hurt.

Anyone remember the gasps at Kendalls first game when we were playing it on the deck after years of lumping it long. Don't get me wrong Bassett was a legend in my eyes but to see the same players actually keeping it on the deck and playing around teams was something else to see.

Enjoyed watching Swansea last season as well because they played a wonderful passing game under Martinez.

Do you mean the mid-table football they are currently playing on a budget alot smaller than ours, standing only 1 point behind and possibly 2 points ahead after the weekend?

I'd take pretty mid-lower table football next season over ugly mid-lower table that I expect to see next season with our current situation.

For the record, I thought it was much better last night. We actually attacked from the start for a change and after the early goal their heads dropped.

And Spackman had a big impact on style.

Those 10 games at The lane [or whatever No it was] were outstanding. It was great to walk out of the ground at the end of a game with your head held high.

Remember going to Tranmere away which I think was only a month or so into his reign (Don Hutchison's debut ?) and like you, was stunned to see the likes of Gannon spraying it around.
