The FA Cup

Never been a priority for CW and despite being a fan of the FA Cup I’ve got to agree with him!
Loss against Barnet but soon forgotten, a cup run last season WOULD HAVE COST US PROMOTION TO THE PROMISED LAND IMO👍

the magic of the cup died through the greed of the game and I would love to see Sheff U win a cup, but as per most on here survival and the league have to come first, plus its a chance for those pushing for a start to show what they can do, could be that Rav lights up the cup and shows what he can do as we cannot afford him the luxury in the league while we try and maintain a points push to see us safe..

I agree to an extent, I love the FA cup still has its magic for me personally although not as much as it did admittedly, however not only if we’re in a relegation battle how about if we get to the 5th/6th round in March and we’re still in with a shout for a European spot ?!
I do want to win a FA cup in my lifetime but I also want to see us in Europe.

What's wrong with both Rodney?

Compromise.

Rest our International first-team players who won't have had a proper break since the season started.
Play the first-team players who aren't internationals and have had regular weeks off.

Moore
Basham Jagielka O'Connell
Baldock Lundstram Norwood L.Freeman Osborn
Sharp Mousset
Subs:- Verrips, K.Freeman, Bryan, Stearman, Morrison, Clarke, ?? (Academy player)

Should be few enough changes to ensure a cohesive team performance.
While giving our 8 internationals a breather.

Moose - Injured?
Lundstam - already on 4 yellow cards
Look how many were knackered after an hour against Man U. (I now i've been praising the fitness and conditioning staff)
December - 7 games in one month. (More injuries and suspensions?)

Let's wait and see who is left standing and who we get in the draw in early January, when we have some interesting fixtures already.

Only way I'd be interested is if we were guaranteed a match with the filthy grunters. So we could annihilate them.
Other than that I'm not bothered.
I hate playing Wendy with a passion because I am scared of losing but playing them in the third round at home yeah I'd have some of that because wilder would go for it and maybe we could smash em to bits, not taking the result for granted but this team could just murder em,how great in a great season would that be, a memory with the best.

Staying up is so so vital to the future of the club that I don't care about the cup this season, play the resies for me.

I'd rather be in Europe next season than win the FA cup..

If we have 25-30 points come the new year then we should go all out to try and win it.

Yellows are competition-specific. Lundstram will get banned for one Premier League game when he gets his fifth yellow regardless of whether the FA Cup is the next scheduled match.

When is the third round drawn?

This Monday, 7pm. Games between Friday 4th and Monday 7th January..

The 3rd round draw never fails to get me disproportionately excited. Trying to keep a tally of how many big clubs plus Wednesday are left in the hat and how many matches there are still to be drawn. "Ok 23 games left, 4 big'uns and the pigs left, a 1 in 9 chance of a good tie". Followed by "and Sheffield United will host.......Shrewsbury" & a muttered 'fucks sake' before sticking the kettle on.

Followed by "Sheffield Wednesday at home to.... Grimsby Town" so you know that United v Shrewsbury is going to be a 1pm kick off on a Sunday in front of 2,400 at the Lane.

Spurs won't take it lightly. Mourinho wins trophies and he'll want the FA Cup. They'd be a good bet to lift it.

Announce Kop closure

The goal this season has to be staying up. As others have said the 3rd round game comes straight after Liverpool so we're bound to rest players.

After 50 plus years supporting the Blades, I'd love us to win the Cup but a lot is going to be down to who we draw in the early rounds. If we are safe by the end of February then let's go for it but not at the expense of Premiership status.

Yep, same here. But when said 'big un' faces a giant killer, but they both put out their reserves, it kills the drama like VAR. It's in built in me to still get excited but when even the lower league clubs play their reserves, it's gone hasn't it?

Moore has been the first choice goalkeeper for cup rounds ever since Mr Wilder has been here, and our cup record is shocking, so expect the same this season.....

Bloke in pub has United at 400-1 to get into Europe. Obviously, from pre season..

Said he’d buy a round if we do. Chris is more than welcome to join us for a pint.

Get the best team out. Keep the juggernaut rolling.

As said many times we are the biggest club never to have played in Europe (Anglo/Italian thing does not count. Needs remedying.

When is the third round drawn?

We're ball number 34, drawn on Monday.

Who do we fancy?

I'd go for an entertaining away game against a non-league side. The magic of the cup.

The only way we would play more than about two regulars in the Third Round of the cup this season is if we draw Wednesday.

If we fluke our way to the 5th round with the reserves and IF we are safe by that point then have a go for it.

Otherwise League survival is by about a thousand times more important.

I know a side in your own division is considered dull but seriously, the best draw we could hope for would be somebody like Watford or Southampton at home. Both sides would make 10/11 changes and play at a 'low risk' tempo. We'd have a decent chance of progressing, while elimination would be a mere and fleeting blip on a local radar.

Any lower league team would present more of a challenge just by being underdogs with a scalp to claim, and if we're going to meet one of the big clubs I'd rather do it in Round 5 onwards when our league position will be that much clearer.

A tad depressing but unfortunately that's where the cup is these days.

Pigs at the Lane for me.
I couldn’t think of anything worse. It’s an absolute no win. We’re expected to beat them, it will be a full on physical test of our first team and there’s a chance one of their lummoxes will injure one of our key players, which the pigs would love. Fuck that.

They will also be allowed 25% of the crowd so will be given the whole Lane end and at cheap prices, will fill it.

A lose - lose for us.

I’d like a nice non league team where we can fill their ground (and they’ll be happy that we do), put out a second string and probably still win (maybe give some of the non internationals a leg stretch) and hopefully get some more points on the board before the fourth round and see if we’re close enough to safety to give it a go.
