I reckon Stuart McCall/Gary Speed wouldn't have looked out of place in this system in the deeper Norwood role.

The obvious candidates for me are Kyle Walker and Harry Maguire.

I'd loved to have seen Derek Geary bombing up the wing in this system too.

My contribution is this; which players from the past would have fit perfectly into the CWAK system?

A couple of obvious ones come to mind simply by virtue of being cracking wing backs - Vas Borbokis and Wayne Quinn. Given the extra license our wing backs have, I think they'd have flourished as they did in the Spackman side.

One other, Matt Kilgallon. I think he'd have done excellently in the J O'C role. Harry is another clear shout for the other side of the central three.

I mean, I can't be arsed, but extra points to anyone who wants to put a full 11 together...

Great article! It was actually a toss up between Katchouro and Marcelo ha! They used to come watch every reserves game and would always sign me and my mates shirts when we were kids. Marcelo was a legend to us as nippers and his style of play has always stuck with me.

Yes I did & agree that he didn't have a good game. Because of this I admit my opinion changed a bit but I still think under Wilder he'd do a good job at Right Centre back.

Vas Borbokis and Dane Whitehouse were tailor made for the wide roles in the current set up.

Was Whitehouse not deployed as a wing back in 93 at Wembley? I’ve erased most of it from my memory

The only players capable of replacing Baldock in my lifetime are Peak Naughton, Peak Quinn, Walker, Borbokis and Pemberton.

i’d speculate he’s a burnley regular because of his crossing ability not defensive skills.. it's essential to how they play

I think Squinny was a victim of timing at United.

He broke through in the Premiership season and looked exciting. Quick feet, could pick a pass & move, not scared to get stuck in. Similar traits to Fleck.

Most of Squinnys Utd career was the Blackwell era.
