Defence - Maguire has had success playing in a back 3 at the WC, driving forward and making runs upfield, also Coady is mobile and I reckon could do damage in the JOC role.

Midfield - Kevin Macdonald was as close to Norwood as we have had pre-Wilder, I reckon he could have still have been a regular for us in the PL under CWAK if we kept him . Murphy could have done the Fleck role, and Brown in Lundstram's... he fought as hard as any player on the pitch that i have seen.

Forwards - Brooks as i would imagine he could link the play like Didzy given time and learning the role. Beattie cus we need an out and out goalscorer!

Some interesting and intelligent suggestions on this thread .

Gordon Cowans would be perfect for the Oli Norwood role , as would Alan Quinn be for the Fleck role and Glen Cockerill in the role that Lunny is playing .

However , the suggestions for the likes of Killgallon and Leon Britton , to name but two , make me cringe . Both were never better than average even on a good day and at worst were a total liability .

I well remember watching us play Derby on TV in a pub near Bradford when Killgallon's performance was so bad that even the locals were laughing out loud about his ineptitude . As for Britton , he never gave the slightest impression of having any pride in wearing our shirt and was perfectly happy to trot through every match giving 5 yard passes sideways and backwards .

He did , however , give the distinct impression that he couldn't wait to fuck off back to Wales and I was more than happy when he did so .

I didn't quite manage to see him in the flesh so am only going off the YouTube footage....I never see Tony Field mentioned in these kind of threads. Scored some belters on YouTube in our best ever modern day finish. Obviously Woody and TC wee the main men.

Britton was an outstanding midfielder bizarrely purchased by a manager whose tactics mainly involved bypassing him and the rest of the midfield completely. There’s no mystery behind why he was good for Swansea, a good footballing side under several forward-thinking managers, and poor for us under the dinosaur Blackwell.

The best thing about Porter was that he was a very capable penalty taker unlike Colin Morris but I could never put any of them in a Premiership team although I would put Alan Kelly in for Henderson just for his experiences with us.

Hodges doesn't really belong in the Didsy role, but he's the closest I could get. In 'reality' for the front 2, I'd likely go Deane and Agana.

Of our current team I'd probably only do the following changes:

Kelly for Henderson;
Walker for Bash;
Borbokis for Baldock;
Maybe Brown on 2003 form for Lunny;
Deano for Mousse

The rest, I'd stick to what we have now, even Egan above Maguire, truly special what we are seeing at the moment and easily the best United team in my lifetime.

And I am very grateful for it too Mr Wilder.
