What was the exact story behind it? Never really known what it was so short-lived. Fell out with Warnock?

What was the story of him leaving the Lane again, I can't remember.

From a Telegraph article:

And he is equally certain who was his worst boss. “Neil Warnock,” he says, without hesitation. “We had a very brief relationship at Sheffield United. He bought me, gave me a three year contract then, four games in, I missed a chance against Reading. Next thing I know he’s sold me to Millwall. OK, these things happen. But he’s told everyone I’ve demanded a move because I don’t like northerners. I never even wanted to leave. He stitched me right up. When I went back to play there with Millwall I got stretchered off and had to go round the entire pitch, getting pelted. I got so much abuse from the Sheffield United fans it was ridiculous. When he was Crystal Palace manager, I played there with Leicester. I scored the winner and made sure I celebrated in front of his dug out.”

Ten Heuvel.......Billy Paynter there’s a fair few of you think about it. No wander we was in league one for so long

Michael Higdon.

signed un scouted last minute off a YouTube highlights package after FLN finally got over his Chris O’Grady obsession, inexplicably made captain on his debut, scored first half and then it was discovered his legs had gone and he was always about a stone overweight.

We've had so many players who haven't delivered, but they normally cost £25 - Mark Beard

It's the ones like Fahti, Shelton and Horsefield which hurt because of how much they cost.

Phil Thompson, Peter Withe, Jostein Flo, Jon O’Connor, Bruno Ribeiro, Patrick Suffo, and Ravel Morrison
Paul Holland, Simon Francis, Bobby Ford, Shaun Derry, John Joe O'Toole, Michael Twiss

All signed with a decent bit of young player fanfare

I’ll go first... Henri Camara. Had massive hopes for him when he signed for us. Think it was only 4 goals he ended up scoring?

Any others?

Don't know why you would've had much expectation in the first place, loaned out to us by lowly Prem team Wigan so that was a sign in itself he'd already began his decline. He was still lively and fast as fuck at 32 though and only retired last year so played up until he was about 40!

There was an interview with Warnock where they asked about if he'd had signings he instantly regretted. He didn't name Hayles but he dropped enough clues to make it clear. Pretty much all he said was that he came here, he wasn't in the shape we thought he'd be, and there was an instant personality clash. Hence he was out the door almost as soon as he came in.

Owen Morrisson, made a world class run first time on the ball then disappeared.

Morrison I think was a player with troubles off the pitch. When we signed him there was a comment that "He's had all his second chances before he came here". My memory might be wrong but I remember him starting quite mixed, having a really good game, and then never being picked again.

Maxime Chanot, never even heard of him until the commentator just mentioned it on the Luxembourg Portugal match just now.

Ade Akinbiyi and Geoff Horsfield were both signed for big money (relative to the time), delivered very little and had no re-sale.
