well, I’m starting to believe we might see our own Chris Wilder putting himself in a similar bracket tClough
He’s brought in players to play a system, found a system that works and is taking many clubs, managers and their players by surprise!

I really hope he he goes for it in the FA cup, there’s no side we need to be scared of, and we are now starting to have the confidence on the pitch to really push on.

Hard to believe this is my club, especially when you hear fans of other clubs, GOOD experts and old pro’s all saying how good we really are.

Said to several friends a couple of years ago, Wilder reminds me of Brian Clough, the way he talks.....dare to dream.....

Sheffield United were fucking superb today, to a man, fucking superb. Our system, our tactics, our preparation, our attitude, our all round ethos....THE ABILITY OF THE PLAYERS moreover.....we are good enough for any team in the country. Absolutely fantastic performance, so bloody proud tonight.....

I said exactly this to my brother in the summer. Had us down for a euro place just like wolves last season. He thought I was barmy. This team is here on merit, they are fucking unbelievable, the best in my lifetime and I’m 61

Agree with you fully there grizzly , I was talking with a piggy yesterday and reminded him that I said when we were in L1 that we were a very very good team , think he just laughed too when I said we would be better in the champ I even think the prem suits us better than the champ and I'm starting to think the sky's the limit for this team/ manager as I didn't expect to be very disappointed that we hadn't beaten both champions league finalists .saying that though I'm getting prouder and prouder of my team day by day .

Clough on his own was good but with Peter Taylor, they made an amazing team. Every great manager needs a good No 2.

Don't think he's saying that , I think the point was it could be possible to be something like cloudy and Taylor whom I have the utmost respect for , on your other point I think it was a much more level playing field in the 70,s but wilder is starting to do something maybe similar by taking an unfashionable provincial club club up to the top league , playing attractive football .

My thoughts exactly ! All the Blades teams I have followed since the 60's were just lacking that extra ingredient to go on & win something , I think this team could.

I think when you constantly raise the bar and ask your players to go that bit further you can get amazing results.

Read any bio of a successful manager and when they describe what they looked for in players it’s essentially the same. Tony Adams summed it up last night after Arsenal lost again ‘when we were at Arsenal, the first thing you looked at was the character. If the character was right, you moved on to whether they’re good enough but if the character was wrong, you stopped there.’

Shankly has a similar approach, as did Clough. That’s what Wilder means when he talks about old school meets new school. He hasn’t forgotten these fundamentals. You look at our players, almost all of them came through big academies (meaning they’re technically decent) and suffered some kind of knock back before climbing their way back into the game (meaning they’re mentally tough). It’s not an accident. And it’s why our players are grasping their second chance with both hands, giving everything they’ve got to achieve what they’ve been dreaming of through all those years of youth football and lower league football, something they thought might be slipping them by.

Wolves are doing OK. They look like they’re going to get through to the knock out stages and don’t look like getting relegated. I’d happily finish 17th next season and have a run in the Europa Cup. In fact, it’s beyond my wildest dreams.
I don’t think it will happen this season but if it did, I trust CW to cope with it.
