VAR ruled this offside...

I'd like someone to explain to me like I am 5, how you can use any compressed video format to determine measurements in fast moving action.

Stockley Park Pikeys might have a go at explaining to you. But they're only 4.

My two lads (12 & 15) were absolutely buzzing watching a stream whilst I had Five Live on in the kitchen. When the goal was disallowed VAR was shown on the stream, they both decided it wasn’t worth watching if goals were going to be disallowed by such a narrow margin. We should have been bouncing round the room Baldock scored, we just stood around waiting for VAR. keep doing that to fans (of all teams) and football will loose supporters.

The original purpose of the offside law wasn't for goals to be offside because of someone's toe being one inch more in front than another mans toe. VAR should be done as it is in cricket and if the goal is given by the officials and is marginally offside than the goal should stand in my view. I think VAR's coming for review this week and hopefully it will be amended. Offside was much better when it had to be clear daylight between players to be offside.

JimPhipps had it right. VAR robbery! Echo what the earlier posters have said. Massive kudos to the lads for coming back after that joke decision. Strength through adversity.

If anyone knocks up a tart this weekend then VAR is your friend , get it ruled offside by Stockley Park .

VAR should only be used for goalmouth decisions where there is a real line and only the position of the ball has to be judged.
Offsides have always been the subjective judgement of the linesman. VAR pics with a virtual line based on moving players as well as the ball don’t really take the subjectivity out of it - as we have seen today.

It’s discrimination against players with big feet. If Lunstrams boots were 1 size smaller he would be onside. 😀

I can't wait to hear Gary Lineker try and justify that on behalf of his beloved team. Spurs were totally outplayed and outclassed today by a superior team - a proper team. Top 6 is NOT an unrealistic target for us. Anyone who thinks about the possibility of relegation for us is out of their tree.

No need to wait lad.

Two other things which make that decision ridiculous.

1 Where they’ve frozen the picture. Is that the exact instant the ball is played or is it a frame or two later? When they’re cutting it to such fine margins they have to be exact as to when the ball is actually played.

2 Apparently there was about 20 seconds from when it happened to the goal. Just how far back in play are they going to go back to find a so-called infringement. 20 seconds, a minute, 2 minutes?

its a complete and utter farce and at the end of the day it all comes down to one mans decision, except it’s not the ref actually on the pitch but some chuff sat in front of a screen rewinding and playing then rewinding again, just looking for a reason not to give a goal.

That wasn’t the idea of VAR.

The dogs gone for a walk....best decision all day.....fucking joke.

Problem was too is the nearer player was more in focus and our man further away was more blurred if you look at the pictures, looks like he has clown feet compared to the Tottenham player just compare boots our player is more blurred and its this that hits the line.
Frame rate too slow - clearly a fault of the system

How does somebody spend nearly 4 minutes deciding that.............unless they are looking for the tiniest reason to disallow a goal. Its completely against what football is all about, and I don't think I can cope with another VAR moment like that.

Heartbreaking decision - football will lose its soul if it continues like this

That ref is as useless behind the VAR camera as he is on the pitch. These refs should be given 1 minute to make a decision if they can't the ruling on the field should stand.

They are using it consistently, so I don’t have a problem with it.

It’s wank when it goes against you, but great when it goes for you. If it was the other way round we’d all be saying “an offside toe is still offside”.

Lineker very quickly tweeted about the VAR decision being a travesty, so I’m afraid you won’t be getting moist from a Lineker bashing session tonight.

Can you categorically says it’s correct though?
I guess not. I’m trying to accept that they know the rules and they know when they take it to VAR. I’d like to think they’re right in what they decide, I’m not looking to controversy...

However, I think the implementation of VAR hasn’t worked.

it takes too long and it removes the almost human part of the game.

I think I’ve appreciated refs and linesmen more this season. Yes they get things wrong and it will always be contentious. But I like that about football.

Interestingly Son had a chance later and he stopped as he thought he was offside. If he’d carried on, slotted home and let VAR decide after 4 mins he might’ve had a winner as the comms reckoned it was played back by a united player...

To be fair to Lineker, he's lambasted the decision on Twitter.
