Anyone still thinking about relegation?

I’ve been sticking my head above the parapet for weeks to say there is no way we are going down.

If yesterday didn’t convince you of that nothing will.

Is top 7 achievable? Maybe, maybe not. But with the defence, organisation and sheer will to win that we have I think it’s more likely we finish in the top 7 than go down.
Chris Wilder doesn’t do relegations, stop worrying.

My little wager on United finishing in the top half @ 16/1 is looking more achievable by the week.....that said I would still snap your hands off for one above the drop.

Started brilliant but I still see us finishing lower down the league.....but would be delighted to be proved dramatically wrong !
I think there's a few of us sitting on that bet! For me I'd like us to be in a position at Christmas where we can have a proper crack at the FA Cup. The one disappointment in the last couple of seasons is our cup form. Understandable, but if we can have a good cup run knowing we are safe, it could be a passage into Europe.

It's an interesting point. If we were safe ish by January then why not play the first team in the FA Cup?

I guess wanting Everton to beat Tottingham instead of the other way round could tell you quite a lot really.

It's amazing how quickly the mindset has changed.

I should have been willing arsenal to beat wolves and spurs to beat Everton to keep some breathing space below us, but I wanted wolves to finish Arsenal off for us to slide into 5th

Yes - I'm hoping the Blackburn result will knock their confidence, and a 12 point deduction will be imposed for breaking FFP rules.

Why are some fans content on settling for survival? We are in this league to try to win it.

The football gods are watching. Don't anger them with this kind of talk.

Some time ago, Wilder requested an audience with the Football Gods, and it was granted.

He strolled into the Halls of Olympus, and sat at the table where the Gods were assembled.

The Gods asked him, "so why should we give a s hit about your tinpot team?" To which Wilder replied, "you shouldn't, but hear this, we play with overlapping centre halfs and every team we face will have an off day. Figure out a way to stop it if you can, because I guarantee most managers won't"

The Gods looked perplexed as Wilder downed the last of his Peroni, leapt to his feet, before letting out an almighty fart and walking off to catch the bus home.

Very little has been heard from the Footballing Gods since.

These are great days we are experiencing, but we have 27 games to go. Over 70% of the season.

I don't understand why people have to be so emphatic. No way we are going down? How can anyone know at this point?

Me, I'm enjoying the ride. We are playing with house money at this point.

The Dr Jekyll in me thinks 'this is the Blades we are talking about', but my more sensible Mr Hyde thinks that Chris Wilder just doesn't do failure. It's almost impossible.

On our performances to date top half is realistic and I think we will achieve it!
We have a formidable defence, a midfield that is improving with every game and to my surprise we score bloody good goals and have several forwards particularly Mousset and MC Goldrick who create things out of nothing.
We have the spine
Hendo
Egan
Norwood
Mousset!
8th place finish is my prediction 🤝

I’ve looked at nearly all Premier league seasons ( I have a lot of spare time) and a good few in the top flight preceding it and compared our points tally with relegated sides at this equivalent time each season. I can’t find a single example of a club being relegated who had 16 points after 11 games.
Add in our positive goal difference and the situation looks even better.

I do appreciate this is not scientific, but it makes me feel better

I only got 10/1.

I'm a pessimist so I won't stop thinking about it until it's mathematically impossible. I don't think we will go down but I think we will be closer than people think.

Win those 5 December games against the lower teams and we're all but safe on boxing Day.

This won't happen but the following would give us 31 points...

Spurs L
Man Utd L
Wolves L
Newcastle W
Norwich W
Villa W
Brighton W
Watford W

35.6pts is the average safety over the last 5 seasons so in theory we need 7 or 8 wins from 27 games

I think it’s about targets. First target has to be avoid relegation and then subsequently we can look at what we can achieve after that.
Until we become an established PL team which may take a few years we will have to start each season with that as the first target. That’s not negative just the reality for virtually every team in the league barring the top few.
So in short yes I do think about it at least for now

After more than 70 years following United, my view is that if bad things can happen they will happen. Enjoy the good times, they don't come round that often.

That is so true I'm only a novice with 50 odd years following them compared to you, but we've both seen both sides of the coin. On saying that never once this season or close season have I contemplated relegation, I said top 10 and stick to it (okay tongue in cheek at first but who knows).

I am feeling optimistic this season. I have seen every game so far and on the whole I feel they are learning fast.

Sadly my supporting is now done from home (health) but seen on TV and this is a team capable of taking us further, the 74-75 team should have but never invested in and we know the rest. As you say we've had bad days and season's so we must enjoy the good times, as they say let them roll.

I must admit that away games are a struggle. I find it difficult to stand up for 90 minutes after walking to the ground and then back to train/car. All those seats and none in use.

Something I never thought I would hear my wife say this weekend "If Sheffield United get into Europe are you going to try and get tickets!"

Yes I am and I will be until we are mathematically safe
I’ve been here, seen that and got several T-shirts and I know that counting chickens can be costly
Let’s enjoy it , don’t get like “ Dem pigs 🐷 “ and think we’ve achieved something when we’ve done Nowt yet
Let Sir Chris and AK at it so we can just enjoy it
UTB ⚔️

I'll take 17th now thanks. As good as we've been defensively we've had some luck as well. West Ham should have scored 3 for example. If we can carry on scoring at least 1 a game we should be fine though. But we definitely need a few 2+ sprinkled in there

If we get to at least 25 points by Xmas (9 points from the next 8 games) then I'll stop thinking about it but until that point it is in the back of my mind.

One step at a time, another 24 points, pressure off slightly and really go for it, see where we end up.
JTW will be interesting, incomings and possible outgoings. The outgoings will be to suit us and not enforced.
I’d be happy to finish 7-10th as this would be recognition of CWAK skill. Not Europe though as we’re not strong enough to fight on two fronts next season. Consolidation and push on.....
