Ticket Office last night

Is it always that bad? I can't get to many games and this was my first for a while. Thought the League Cup would be fairly low stress, easy. £15 ticket, very nice (thank you club). I arrived in plenty of time and then had to queue for 25 minutes to get my ticket and took my seat just as the Sunderland goal went in. Apparently we were good up to then. The match was bobbins, fair enough, it happens and we've been spoiled lately. But I was a bit taken aback that the ticket office couldn't seem to cope with an 11,000 gate and loads of us missed a good chunk of the first half. Fair play to the Sunderland fans, who turned out in numbers and created an atmosphere.
 



Too risky and dangerous to set up ticket selling booths around the ground you see.

The collection queue took too long as well.

It's as if they didn't know people would be getting tickets on the night for a game like this.
 
Ricky, I have bad memories of queueing for ages to collect tickets at BDBL and rushing not to miss the match. I had hoped that now we are a shiny Premier League team we'd be able to cope with 32,000 gates so 11,000 would be a doddle. But no.
 
25 minutes is pretty good.

Regularly had to queue for an hour to get a ticket even when we were in League One.
 
South Stand quieter than usual but the queues to get in were worse than the League games.

Membership cards (if you have one) can be pre-loaded with purchased tickets. No paper/printing needed. Scan your card at the turnstile. It's worth it just for the frisson of excitement to see if the turnstile light turns green or red.

There was a very funny comment on shout box last night about using Apple Pay to buy a bovril.
 



What makes me laugh is the club spending money on light-shows and fucking flamethrowers when it could hire a company to introduce QR code tickets through a Sheffield United app designed for both android and ios. The original outlay would soon pay for itself in ticket sales and reduce the need for staff at the ticket office.

The obvious problem is that a huge majority of our fans moaned at contactless at food kiosks, also a huge amount of casuals dont seem to know their customer numbers. Both club and supporters need to get with the times. Frustrating.

Yes. Booths. What with no security, safety and insurance issues to worry about.

In fact, give some teenagers a money bag and a ticket machine, like they had on the buses years ago..... what could go wrong?

Only 4 terminals so they can only process 4 at a time best to get your ticket earlier in the day or previously on line or by phone.
Most clubs now have ticketing systems with no pay on the gate.I would never turn up pre - match to buy a ticket.
If a thousand people turn up to buy tickets say half an hour pre kick off ! No way will they all see kick off.
The days are long gone when thousands turn up at cash turnstiles,amazing really how clubs used to do it say with a crowd of 30k plus.

Some places have gone full circle.
At an away ground last season, they had a worker at the turnstile with a hand-held barcode reader - he scanned the tickets and operated a mechanical foot-pedal to let you in!

of which around 25000 are season tickets so I think we can

Getting in wasnt the problem was it? Buying a ticket I think was his problem.
The barcode system is great for getting people in quickly ,if you have a ticket.
 
I do buy online when I know I can go to a match. But my circumstances are such that it's sometimes a last minute decision. Yesterday my road was closed because of the UCI World Cycling Champs so I couldn't possibly have arrived any earlier. And sometimes going to a match is a spontaneous thing, it'd be nice to think you could do it without having this fuss every single time.
I wouldn't mind so much but it seems to have been going on for the three decades I've been a Blades fan and I had hoped things might have moved on by now.

Fair point. The ability to print a ticket just before, as been mentioned by others, would probably work for you then?

My road got closed for the Tour de Yorkshire a few years ago which was a bind (but I did get to see Bradley Wiggins go past the top of my street).

As I said earlier Hackblade everything is geared to getting tickets pre- match when ticket office is flooded late on it's impossible to get everyone in on time.
Going back to the past as i said clubs did remarkably well when it was pay at the gate when thousands turn up together and expect to see kick off.Ivebeen caught out like you in the past but buying pre- match cuts this problem out.
Getting in is still a problem even with the computer bar code system as thousands turn up late and the system cant cope.Hope this is helpful.

You're having a dig at the club when you turned up at 720pm to collect your ticket for a game that kicked 25 minutes later, when tickets have been on sale for about 3 weeks?

We has the Tour de France too and it was far more popular than this. Shopkeepers are fuming, it goes on for 9 days and takings are down.

I went on a walking course yesterday, the instructor was from Harrogate and not happy at all about it, said it’s caused massive problems in the town.
