I agree that at some point this will happen. And im not wholly against it if it was done in the right way.
For me that would be rather than one team lose 'home' advantage, you have a double header, effectively a Saturday / Tuesday back to back games against the same team. If it was done in winter, along with the winter break, it could be marketed accordingly as the come back games, chance for clubs to get some warm weather training and R&R in (it would have to be global rather than just the US for this) and would give some supporters the chance to go.
By having a back to back against the same team no one loses advantage, the game reaches new audiences, brings in more revenue etc etc, clubs get the chance to get away min Jan or Feb and recharge and train etc etc.
I think its just a matter of time in all honesty. I agree re protecting the domestic game, but I think that'll be more about the PL protecting the PL as a european super league that was mooted would kill off the PL as we know it, as the top clubs would have a ESL squad and a PL squad.
