The Premier League recent stance on European super leagues etc says to me this kind of thing won't be happening.

"Protecting the domestic game" is the new thing they're getting behind, so a £700 return ticket to get to the venue would be outside of that.

A PL North American tour in summer, similar to the Asia Trophy, yes. Regular league games, no chance.

Seems ludicrous to play a proper home match 1000’s of miles away.

However they have a franchise system in the US, so clubs relocate to where the audiences (revenue) is.
Hence why proper US Football and baseball matches being played in London is accepted.

In the US it seems cold business and improving finance always wins out over romantic traditionalism.
It’s all about the money......so wouldn’t be surprised to see it happen one day.

With all due respect that's purely conjecture on your part. It could be argued that sky's multi millions saved British football in a time of decline. The finger should be pointed at the greedy premier league clubs and chairmen who refused to facilitate a fairer way to distribute the monetary benefits throughout the football pyramid.

How would you feel if Blades were to play one or two matches in USA per season?

It would absolutely be the worst thing for football and i'd hope that someone in the Premier League would see sense.

Football is flooded with money and there has to come a point when the game realises that its fans do count.

Part of the appeal of the game in England is full stadiums and massive viewing figures in the UK. If people stop going to games and start turning off TV's and stopping buying merchandise, then you lose a huge revenue stream.

Reality of overseas games is that they want to watch the big 6, not Sheffield United v Southampton.

As soon as we announce our first league game in the USA, China or Nigeria, i'll cancel Sky Sports, not renew my season ticket and stop giving the club my money. Personally i'll be done with football then.

I'm actually against it, as I'm against most Modern Football Bollocks. But, if it happens, we're going in deep & coming out wet.

I agree that at some point this will happen. And im not wholly against it if it was done in the right way.

For me that would be rather than one team lose 'home' advantage, you have a double header, effectively a Saturday / Tuesday back to back games against the same team. If it was done in winter, along with the winter break, it could be marketed accordingly as the come back games, chance for clubs to get some warm weather training and R&R in (it would have to be global rather than just the US for this) and would give some supporters the chance to go.

By having a back to back against the same team no one loses advantage, the game reaches new audiences, brings in more revenue etc etc, clubs get the chance to get away min Jan or Feb and recharge and train etc etc.

I think its just a matter of time in all honesty. I agree re protecting the domestic game, but I think that'll be more about the PL protecting the PL as a european super league that was mooted would kill off the PL as we know it, as the top clubs would have a ESL squad and a PL squad.

I had a similar conversation with a family of Philadelphia Eagles fans at one of the NFL Wembley games last year.

They thought it was great - the chance to support and travel with their team internationally; something they don't get the chance to do with the NFL (unlike the Champions League and Europa Cup in UK football - let's be honest, we're miles away from that dream).

They said it also gave them a great reason to visit a city, London, that they had always wanted to visit but never had the perfect time to.

good idea tbf... play the whole of the quarter, semis and final of league cup abroad... especially if it brings in a tasty amount of money for both PL and lower league clubs, It might actually help to make the competition competitive again if their are PL-levels of money for getting to latter stages

To be fair to the Americans, you have to put it into the context that even if your state has a big franchise then you can still be a couple of hundred miles from it. That's part of the reason why college sports and minor leagues are big, because people can actually follow them locally. And it's not that big a deal for one game a season to be in London given a normal away game could be a couple of thousand miles from you.

Yeah it is, I don’t disagree. I just think it’s inevitable in all honesty. Or it’ll be the much talked about game 39. Clubs will agree to it as they’ll get paid shit loads more

At the minute we’d all be gutted at missing a match. But say you’re spurs fan and it’s a game against Everton, you’ve seen it every season for 60 odd years, it might not be too much of a hardship for it to go overseas
