Old Photos For No Reason Whatsoever

Found a more recent one.

Which disappointed me. I'm good at Maths, yet when I saw this it made me realise I got something wrong here. My recollection as a young kid was there were loads of phone boxes here. It was the place to go to use a phone I guess!!

Yet there's only 4. How could I miscount so much?! 😂

Had a look and can't find any looking the other way. The steps must have been there, it's to steep for a road.

(also I've just noticed this is in Blades chat area. I was looking for it General Chat. Is it ok to post old Sheffield in general, or should I start another thread? Linz )View attachment 60484
Fiesta, Marina, Maxi. Is the blue one a Datsun? And the little one a Honda?

The steps are to the left of the post office as you look at the picture.

Certainly the steps were they in the 1950s you can see on this shot. Also the tram switchover circled in the picture was unearthed a few weeks back, and I captured it.

I should start putting a watermark on pictures. I noticed yesterday that the british history transport online site swipped all my pictures from the history forum! (cheeky twats!)

I concur fellow pedant.

After looking several images of Daimler Fleetlines and Atlanteans for which I seek absolute and full forgiveness. My horror show also indicated it could be a Roe bodied example.

Must dash, my white socks are nearly dry and I need to pop out for a new note pad...

Agreed, I thought possibly a Roe bodied Atlantanean.

Do you know if the tram lines were removed or covered over again. There must be some scrap value there but it would be nice if they’ve been left in place.

They cut them out.

Same as Blonk Street (which is the biggest exposure of the lines I've ever seen)

edit:eek:rder wrong)
The top 2 are the same but from different side (outside the Alexander [former] pub
Then a week later they exposed more further up
and the bottom one is the lines as they were. It was a spur that ran up Waingate from Wicker, then looped around Exchange St (in front of Market Tavern) and joined to go back down Blonk St towards the Wicker.IMG_0582.JPGIMG_0582.JPGIMG_0658.JPGScreenshot_2019-05-30 Exposed Tramlines.pngIMG_0582.JPGIMG_0587.JPGIMG_0658.JPGScreenshot_2019-05-30 Exposed Tramlines.png

sorry above post, not sure why I ended up doubling things up, tried to edit, but made it worse 🤣

I agree SW12 to S12 to S18 , I would like it to stay.

I've got loads of other pictures over the years, but tiny in comparison. I know all the old routes, so when I'm working I notice roadworks and go and see if any lines there. Reight saddo geek me.

I fancied a bit to go in my garden as a feature, but the only time I saw a piece that I knew I could fit in the car, it weighed precisely 27 times more than I expected :(🤣

There are some awesome pics on this thread. Got me thinking, wouldn't mind a good sized mural of the Lane preferably from the early days.

Does anyone know of anywhere that can supply very large prints or murals?

Hipsters huh ! , we had one in 1971 !!

Sport. Football. pic: circa 1971. Sheffield United's Trevor Hockey on the ball. : News Photo

This one is from a bit later, 1952. Looks like there might be a reserves game on.

Does anyone know what the dark square area next to the Pavilion was that looks a bit like a swimming pool?

The OS map has it as a tank. Not sure that makes it any clearer!

If you zoom into the picture, you can see a centre circle marked out. At De La Salle, we also had an open top building called a tank and we had a high jump pit at one end of it. I think they were called tanks because of the four walls and no roof rather than it's ability to hold water. Strange.

My grandad had a tram which he used as a shed. I’ve got no idea how he got it to the allotment near his house but I’m guessing it was cheap (he was proper Yorkshire) and they probably delivered it. I can only vaguely remember it.
