If that's the case it certainly is a Heath Robinson contraption, as someone posted at some point earlier, what's wrong wi' a brush and bucket o' white wash. Come on, someone must know looks like it's doing sommo't to cricket square. Feller ont' left would have known that's why I'm interested to know.
 

Has he had a shoe off protest in John St? Before SS build. Who's that in brown coat getting into dugout? Used to be United's, BL side, in 50's early 60's whether it was at this time, 70's believe, don't know. There are two other photos of a similar ilk, one with a blooded face, brick hit him, and with St Johns personnel. Is this the one Silent is looking for? The other, youth with dart in side of nose but not sure whether that was at Lane, always believed it was.

My guess that it was v Arsenal in October 1972 (we won with a Dearden goal- Alan Ball sent off). Lovely sunshine that day. I might be wrong. Cant think who the man in the dugout is.

The dart in nose fan was a Man U fan in Man U v Liverpool match in 1978.

There is a photo of a fan with a bloodied head after a brick was thrown at him in the Blades v Man U match in October 1967. I saw it in a late 1960s football annual

If you scroll out on it SW12 to S12 to S18 , then you can move it around, you can look at all of Sheffield. (in fact almost all of britian!)

It's in my top 10s of any sites available on the internet (especially if you are into Sheffield history) - I try not to open it up too often as always end up hours on it!
(you can change the maps too, there are all sorts of different ones. This one is a copy of my set up, comparing current map, with 1900 OS (+/-about 5 years)

Found a more recent one.

Which disappointed me. I'm good at Maths, yet when I saw this it made me realise I got something wrong here. My recollection as a young kid was there were loads of phone boxes here. It was the place to go to use a phone I guess!!

Yet there's only 4. How could I miscount so much?! 😂

Had a look and can't find any looking the other way. The steps must have been there, it's to steep for a road.

The GPO or Post Office.
My Dad worked there for 46 years starting as a messenger and rising to management.
My Granddad worked his whole life as well, rising to a superintendent.
There were always plenty of phone boxes.
Very interesting to see the telephone exchange on the upper floors as no direct dialling with every phone call been answered by an operator, except a local call by payment from a box.
The sorting office on the lowest floor, what a site to see at Christmas.
Note cinema, Odeon on rhs side at the bottom of Norfolk Street.
Remember the phone call boxes with button A to press if call received and Button B to return money if not answered.
No break in of telephone cash boxes what a change to todays world.
