Thanks for the info SB but do you know what the machine is and what it does? Cannot see anywhere if anyone has elucidated. If you watch Blades v Oxford (Sept 1968) on you tube you will notice that there were no advertisements on the BLUT so the photo would be either summer 1969,1970,1971,1972 or 1973
I only posted it for the picture of FlynnNot THAT FFFffffff###ing goal AGAIN.
Painting the white lines? Thanks for the info SB but do you know what the machine is and what it does? Cannot see anywhere if anyone has elucidated.
Blades 5 Villa 0 22nd November 1969. Colquhoun the scorer
If that's the case it certainly is a Heath Robinson contraption, as someone posted at some point earlier, what's wrong wi' a brush and bucket o' white wash. Come on, someone must know looks like it's doing sommo't to cricket square. Feller ont' left would have known that's why I'm interested to know.Painting the white lines?
This one is from a bit later, 1952. Looks like there might be a reserves game on.
Does anyone know what the dark square area next to the Pavilion was that looks a bit like a swimming pool?

Bit harsh. All he did was call David Weir a useless waste of space
Is this Fitzalan Square where Couplands is now ?
My guess that it was v Arsenal in October 1972 (we won with a Dearden goal- Alan Ball sent off). Lovely sunshine that day. I might be wrong. Cant think who the man in the dugout is.Has he had a shoe off protest in John St? Before SS build. Who's that in brown coat getting into dugout? Used to be United's, BL side, in 50's early 60's whether it was at this time, 70's believe, don't know. There are two other photos of a similar ilk, one with a blooded face, brick hit him, and with St Johns personnel. Is this the one Silent is looking for? The other, youth with dart in side of nose but not sure whether that was at Lane, always believed it was.

Looks like it.
Never knew there was a road off Fitzalan Square called Bakers Hill, I only know of the steps. On this [great] site, you can pinpoint (using the slider on the bottom left)
That and the buildings below it were flattened for road widening. https://maps.nls.uk/geo/explore/#zoom=19&lat=53.3829&lon=-1.4643&layers=168&b=3

Excellent, thank you.
The GPO or Post Office.Found a more recent one.
Which disappointed me. I'm good at Maths, yet when I saw this it made me realise I got something wrong here. My recollection as a young kid was there were loads of phone boxes here. It was the place to go to use a phone I guess!!
Yet there's only 4. How could I miscount so much?!
Had a look and can't find any looking the other way. The steps must have been there, it's to steep for a road.
(also I've just noticed this is in Blades chat area. I was looking for it General Chat. Is it ok to post old Sheffield in general, or should I start another thread? Linz )View attachment 60484
