I mean, it WAS a foul and led DIRECTLY to a goal. I don’t see why we can’t ask the question about what VAR is for, if not that?Must be a foul then

Could have been given, I wasn’t spitting when it wasn’t. Not sure it was clear and obvious (well, it can’t have been)I think it was, in fairness. Don’t you?
It’s for clear and obvious errors. The fact not one United player even suggested it was a foul suggests it wasn’t.I mean, it WAS a foul and led DIRECTLY to a goal. I don’t see why we can’t ask the question about what VAR is for, if not that?
What’s the difference between a accidental flick on the arm and two hands pushing the defender down to get a better leap , ridiculous.
VAR is a joke
I’m not sure where a lack of appeal comes into it? We’ve all seen it, he gets unnatural height by climbing onto Egan’s back. You can see 2 hands pushing Egan down to leverage his jump. It’s a foul, surely?Could have been given, I wasn’t spitting when it wasn’t. Not sure it was clear and obvious (well, it can’t have been)

Three weeks in and in my opinion the current set up on VAR is a joke. I really don’t think they will ever set it up to make it work where it is an adjunct of the officials and an external imposition on the game. The only way I see it might possibly work is to hand it over to the managers and give them 2 challenges each like captains are given in cricket, correct challenge they keep it, incorrect the lose it.

I don't know why we need refs anymore. Let the VAR man tell the the guy on the pitch what to do with all aspects of the game then there are 100% no arguements.
What about the 50/50 incidents which there are loads of each match. Does the VAR man tell the ref, they don’t know?
I don’t understand the problem. Don’t think VAR was ever meant to get every single decision right because even after looking at loads of replays experts in the studio still can’t agree on a decision, so there will still be some controversy even under VAR.
What VAR does do is help the ref by massively cutting down the number of bad errors.
Also as I said there’s now more respect towards the ref from players and managers, which is a big positive.
That’s the only way it will work
Of course it does. If it was that obvious a foul why does no one even so much as ask for it?The lack of appeal has nothing to do with it.
Clear and obvious like the two penalties that should’ve been given to City and Spurs today you mean?
Pre VAR was a joke, that’s why it was brought in, so that there’s no factual errors anymore.
Things are definitely better but agree still need to improve.....but it’s early days for VAR and no doubt it will evolve.
My concern from watching the recent men and women’s World Cup is that if VAR is applied to a vey strict level
Then there’s pushing and shoving at every corner, so could be 3 or 4 penalties every match.
However the PL have already said they are NOT going to set a high threshold, so in general VAR will agree with the ref unless it’s a howler.
Regards the Leicester 2nd goal using a player for leverage is part of the game, Sharp does clever little pushes and shoulder barges all the time,
would have been harsh to disallow their goal but can understand why a ref might disallow it.
Yes I am saying let the VAR ref manage the game. Their 2nd goal would have been a foul, everything is fair then.
Nobody appealed for the handball at the Etihad last week, so therefore that wasn’t clear and obvious by your view?Of course it does. If it was that obvious a foul why does no one even so much as ask for it?
No idea about City and Spurs and couldn’t care less, either. Cricket day today
The Leicester 2nd goal was checked by VAR.
I’ve just done a google search.
Apparently VAR is checking 4 issues this season.
Every goal scored
Every penalty incident
Every red card incident
And mistaken identity issues.
No a goal was scored if the ref and the var ref saw nothing wrong with that foul on Egan then surely they are blind. If VAR was called up for incidents like the Egan challenge then the game is dead
So you disallow a goal for a accidental flick on the arm that nobody saw and you allow a blatant foul an the defender that everybody but big ears saw.
if that’s not ridiculous I don’t know what is!

An incident with Kane this afternoon was reviewed by the var and saw no evil that was a pen all day how can the var get that one wrong,
Newcastle player stumbled and made sure Kane went down as well Dean had a poor angle ,var determined "no pen".It was an incident which could have led to a goal,Egan was man handled and a goal ensued one was reviewed the other not and goal came from it no consistency there.
Clear foul as far as I'm concerned Wilder thought so too
Don’t think that one had to be clear and obvious. It’s black and white now; it hit the attacker’s hand, so no goal.Nobody appealed for the handball at the Etihad last week, so therefore that wasn’t clear and obvious by your view?
Interesting. Good cop out.

VAR is a joke
The disallowing the Man City goal by an accidental flick wasn’t about VAR, it was about the recent law change.
VAR was a success in this situation because applied the new rule perfectly.
Fair enough I take your point but it was a game changing incident just like a penalty can beNot sure you understand.
EVERY single goal, penalty incident, potential sending off incident and identification issue is VAR’d this season. Check the PL rules.
Their 2nd goal was VAR’d and they obviously didn’t think it was strong enough to change the ref decision.
I was sat in the BLUT and didn’t notice a foul.....but looking at the picture it does look a foul.
However it’s been said many times never judge an incident using a picture....always best to look at it in real time....even slow motion can distort an opinion.
Do you know what......I reckon if Egan had fallen down like he’d been shot....then it would have been disallowed.
No one from our team complained either.......it shouldn’t make a difference but I reckon it can.
I think after that incident Wilder will have them appealing in such circumstances as he has said we have to cotton on to the antics premiership players get up to.No prizes for being the good guy.Don’t think that one had to be clear and obvious. It’s black and white now; it hit the attacker’s hand, so no goal.
The Egan ‘foul’ was subjective. You and CW think it was a foul, Egan and all his teammates didn’t. So can’t have been that clear nor obvious an error can it?
Last season I could have accepted the ref may of missed this.
With VAR I believe there is no excuse. It’s a foul and we was robbed of a potential two points

Or the ref saw it and decided it wasn’t a foul.
Football should be a simple game, played at the same principle at every level.
The elite leagues remain the whores of the media companies. They’ve seen the financial success of the tv focus of NFL, tennis etc and want a slice, bugger the fans actually rocking up to pay and watch.
I’m not a fan of VAR because nobody been able to explain why it makes football better as a spectator sport.
